Reversal on a number of policies: New DRM that would have changed the way used games work. Xbox One wouldn't work if you if disconnected from internet for more than 24 hours. The One wouldn't work unless Kinect was connected at all times. Indie game creators were required to get have a publisher.
They still haven't relented on making all purchasers pay an extra $100 for Kinect, whether you want one or not. They claim they will never change this. However, they also claimed that a number of the other policies wouldn't be changed either.

Gosh Deb, you're late to the party.
Well, the Xbox One was supposed to
1: Be online at least once a day to check ownership, or the system wouldn't function even for playing games offline
2: Have a complicated sort of partial-digital ownership of games making all games essentially digital purchases
3: Have another complicated system for loaning games out and only allowing for selling games at participating retailers.
4: Not allow any sort of game rentals (at least initially)
5: Allow some sort of digital game sharing with up to 10 "family members" (that was never fully explained)
6: Require that the Kinect be plugged in at all times to operate the system (though it could be disabled)
All these policies have been changed and are now totally in line with current game systems (and the PS4)

7: Indie games developers had to have a publishing partner to get games on X1
8: Launching in 21 countries around the world in November (now 13, and who knows about the launch date)
9: Fully fuctional in all 13 countries (voice controls only work in 5 of the 13)
10: Headset will not be included because you can use Kinect for that
11: Employing Don Mattrick as head of Xbox division

#11 is the most idiotic thing I've ever read. Why in the world would you do such a thing?

Having Major Nelson as a mouthpiece for the system is a HUGE turnoff. I can't stand listening to that guy and then watching his creepy smile creep across the screen. I know that he is likely just an independent journalist with a hard-on for anything MS but still. I would ask him to pipe down and ease back on the creepiness.

I don't mind him -- seriously I don't. He's a bit of a tool, but he's fine as a corporate mouthpiece. He's done a good job over the years, that awful Gamescom "special" notwithstanding.

It's not like the poor guy has a lot to work with as he has to convince people that a gimmicky, underpowered and overpriced console is a wise investment.
He also took over the mouthpiece role when the Xbox brand was at an all-time low, and they've improved quite a bit since then IMO. And if rumors are to be believed, he largely convinced MS to pack in the headset and allow you to unhook the Kinect, so he's done some good practical things as well.

Going back a few posts, what exactly is wrong with PSN?
I mean, yeah, the store sucks, downloading games/patches/etc. is so slowwwwwwwwwwww. But you don't see slowness when playing MP games. COD and all those games play the same as in Xbox Live. The server hosted of course.
If you go from the Xbox 360 to the PS3, you may see the little differences annoying, when playing online, but that's it.

Most of the things that hold PS3 online back are in the hardware rather than the network, and once you're in-game the only real difference is party chat. I have zero doubt that Sony circa 2013 can replicate Xbox Live circa 2006 in terms of basic functionality. And they are adding their own social twist to it as well.

Download speeds do need to be addressed. PS+ offering updates overnight is awesome, but wanting to play a game on day of release only to get hobbled by an 8 hour download is unacceptable.

They already have preloading of games in the PS3 ala Steam, not sure if GTA V is the first game to do that, but that's the more famous/infamous right now.
So just let the game start downloading one month before release and they should be fine.

At least both are allowing remote(online) downloading since both stay in a low power mode. That'll be nice.
