Isn't there a way you can just cover the Kinect camera lens on the big brother box with electrical tape?

Exactly the kind of reply I was looking for. So many questions I would like to ask these nimrod corporations as well. People aren't paranoid....they just don't want corporations snooping on them - no matter or how big or little.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Well, maybe SOME people aren't paranoid, but SOME are!

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I think people should be more paranoid about stuff like this than worrying that the government is going to take away your right to be arms.

If you live in a modern society around others then there is no privacy. The illusion you have that you have a right to privacy because we live in the United States is ridiculous. I for one don't care how I am spied on or viewed. Why? Because I follow the law and don't do anything wrong. In fact I am perfectly fine with big brother especially if it means one less sicko shooting up a theater or a school. That's it. |

Are you trying to call out someone with 235k gamerscore as someone who doesn't support MS/Xbox? rotfl

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
He apparently did that himself...

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Dude, it's for watching TV not playing games, duh. If you want to play games get a PS4.

The amount of complaining and console bashing I have seen from people who do not support MS/Xbox have been equally sickening.
Also, as pointed out above I've pretty clearly supported them through nearly all of this console generation, and I was even trying to defend them and advocate a "wait and see" attitude up until yesterday in this very thread. Well, I waited and now I have seen. No more defending from me. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Even though I feel like i've been on the defense of Microsoft side, I think all the complaints and gripes have been legitimate and understand why people are upset, and they have a right to be. Although at this point we're just saying the same things ever since the rumors started.
I feel like i've fallen on the position that chuck has though; in the end, most of these things don't affect me so they don't really bother me. I only buy the big titles anyway, i'm always connected online, and I like to buy my games new and rarely resell them. I'd be happy enough with a digital trade in to Amazon if it's there. I've been used to PC games for so long, that most of these issues don't bother me. That said, whatever Naughty Dog does alone might have me sold on a PS4. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I guess people are not ready for next gen gaming since it's basically going to be how PC gaming has been for years. Both XBOX and PS4 will be nearly identical in the way they handle games this time around, and it's the same as a PC with the exception of being able to trade in games. Once this is the norm and gaming as we currently know it is gone, I think people will calm down a bit. It's just time to move on and people can't get over it yet apparently.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The Kinect is the least of my worries. For one, haven't they basically said you can turn everything off? If not, just throw a pillow on top of it. I'm not paranoid enough to think anyone gives a shit about what I'm doing in my living room, but this is not tough technology to "beat".

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
All the drawbacks of PC gaming but none of the benefits. Can't wait!

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I guess I just don't see these "drawbacks" people are speaking of. I must be crazy thinking that all the info the revealed yesterday actually answered some questions and debunked all of the rumors. Oh well, at least it made sense to me and now I can buy it knowing full well that I will enjoy it...don't really care what other people decide :)

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
There are some Red Flags around on the privicy side but two that stand out for me...
The fact every Xbox One will have Kinect installed whether you want it or not and... ...it has to be on when using the Xbox. But now they're putting it out there the reason is being it has voice control for saying "Xbox On" feature and that's it...not meant to spy or record conversations...but it will track heart beat and eye movements to ads. Then why did these wizards of smarts not incorporate a seperate mic for voice only and have it with the camera? ....and not to mention the "once every 24hr connection". |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Is there no power button on the console? Can we not power on the console with the controller? The company line about needing it for Kinect's "Xbox on" is horseshit.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I so hate just about everything I've read so far about the One. It's way too invasive and restrictive. I never go to a friend's house to play games there (that's what the Internet connection used to be for), so the one bit of "good news" doesn't mean a damn thing to me. I love to rent games, so that seems to be out the window at least for the One. I've sold plenty of games I didn't like or was done with and that seems over now as well. I've always hated the Kinect and don't want that ugly thing on top of my HDTV (and it would require an expensive professional install to even get it hooked up since my TV is mounted about 15 feet away from my component closet).
I've really loved my 360 (especially the Slim -- my first one sounded like a 747), but I can't really see myself getting a One if Sony comes out with a less restrictive PS4 policy. Yes, most PC games have similar restrictions, but 1) I get all my PC games excluding Blizzard for at least 50% off and usually pretty quickly after release and 2) I don't have to buy a new PC to play new games and my current PC plays older games. I'm so disappointed by all this news. I pray things are better in the Sony camp; they'd have to be, right? |
