It sounds like it's only for installs of the games. I assume they'll still play off of a disk.

Now there are no fees associated with used games, and the original Wired story is said to be completely incorrect.

According to this, it won't use more power than the 360. |

I thought they said in the presentation that no games will carry over from the 360, period.
Digital content like movies and TV shows will carry over. |

Achievements will carry over, as if there was any real doubt. And:

Not that I'm surprised, but this reveal didn't sway my decision. There's just nothing that makes me want to upgrade. Maybe Mass Effect 4 or Alan Wake 2. It's going to need to have some impressive games to make me forget about all the negatives.
I'm just not impressed by this generation of consoles thus far. |

Microsoft is not dumb.
A lot of us have multiple Xboxes at home, and yeah we play the same game in two different consoles at different times. That shouldn't change with Xbox One. How? Not sure, maybe same way it's now, without inserting the disc. But you have to login into Xbox live with your account of course.

Woah. This is not good. If I wasn't out before, I am so out now.

I don't buy used games either, but I sell my games back. If I'm going to take a hit on selling a $60 game back, more than with this current generation, it definitely affects me as a consumer.

Wow, that design is terrible. It looks like two different cable boxes that were cut in half and the halves were put together. And it looks they seem to be going with a Rambo-like naming system for their systems now.

Hopefully that would circumvent paying again, but from the wording it doesn't sound like it.

Correct. If its a game programmed to work on the 360 it will not work on the Xbox One.
Digital content like movies and TV shows will carry over. |

None of it carries over. I know it sounds like entitlement to want that stuff to carry over but whatever. I wish the publishers the best of luck convincing people to buy digital content on these new consoles.
If nothing else, I'm hoping the lack of backwards compatibility means some awesome sales on DLC and arcade games on the 360's marketplace in the next year. |

 This "small" fee is bad news for consumers all around. It's not just about buying used games, that's only half of the coin. Not being able to resell shitty games (at a decent amount) is crap and it will affect non-AAA title sales. Who's going to take a $60 chance on an unproven game if that safety net is removed? |

Fuck. They need to figure out something for Rock Band. I have too much money sunk into that game. Luckily, other than all the pinball games, I don't have a ton of stuff on Live that I would mind giving up...but I am still not sold on this system yet. I will likely wait at least a year to see if I would be better served with the Xbox or the PS.

Microsoft attempts to clear up the fee/no fee thing.

I think this console generation is critical in terms of defining the future of gaming. It's a totally different world than when the XBox 360 and PS3 launched. PCs are more competitive as gaming platforms, indie development has taken off, broadband is everywhere. I'm not positive about it. I thought it was funny to read comments on the Steam forum a while back when the rumor about no used games on the PS4 came out. Most of the comments were that it was a terrible idea, it would certainly fail, etc. - oh, you mean just like Steam? I'm not too positive about the future of gaming either, with all this mobile and casual focus, free-to-play, microtransactions, etc. |
re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Sooo, forgive me if I missed it but will the current XBOX's and LIVE still work when this X1 comes out?

Additionally, Engadget reports the machine will come with a 500GB hard drive that is non-replaceable, but the USB 3.0 slots can be used for external storage.

This is what was stupid of Microsoft. Come out and give us clear details of the used game situation so there isn't all this speculation and misinformation. I don't see how any pr person or firm would advise them to do this.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
External storage for WHAT, though? Hopefully it will be for more than movies and music.
Giantrobo, the original Xbox had the Live plug pulled in 2010, so they should continue to support the 360 for a while. BTW, I prefer XO as the abbreviation - it's less likely to be confused with the original Xbox. XOXO, XO! ;) |
