this was mentioned in the IGN preview. basically anytime there is a vehicle on screen with a massive amount of zombies, it will slow down. but they said that was the only time it happened.

Just because of the nature of the game, I would think that targeting 720p would be best for Titanfall. It's not a game where you walk around staring at the scenery...it's a game where it's important that you can jump in and keep moving without technical issues crippling you.

I long for the days where we argued about 8-bit vs 16-bit and whether Blast Processing was a real thing.

I guess my point was thnt a higher frame rate is a bigger deal that 720 vs 1080 to me. It's much more visually appreciable.

Unless I missed something in the past couple days, I don't remember Respawn or EA actually confirming that Titanfall is 720p. Again, not that it really matters (at least I don't care, as long as it runs and looks good), but I just wanted to see if I'm missing something there.

Probably file under "rumor" for now, but it's from the same sources who leaked 720p for CoD, BF4 and KI. Mark Rubin also said it in an interview the other day, but who knows how much IW and Respawn talk these days.

Respawn: Way to ruin our hard work, dipshits!
IW: Fuck you! And it's still going to outsell Titanfall bitches.

I imagine their conversations aren't too much more indepth than that anymore.

I'm waiting to see what kind of "swag" they have in the marketplace that you can use points towards, but if all that stuff ends up being garbage I'm willing to donate my Dew points to someone who might be close to getting enough to bid successfully.

Given the number and variety of games that are running at lower resolutions and framerates, I don't think it's fair to blame developers for what is pretty clearly a hardware limitation.

I'm making what I think is a reasonable guess, not assigning blame.

I'm shocked at who decided to suddenly chime in about resolutions.

Poor wording on my part. Just meant that DR3 isn't alone.

I'd explain my understanding of the hardware limitation, but I'm not the right person to do it. :)

You're not the right person to explain your understanding?

Not in this thread...see preemptive dismissals above. :)

And I didn't bring up resolutions, for the record.

1. PS4 has games running at sub-1080p/60fps
2. Xbox One has games running at sub-1080p/60fps
3. Wii U has games?

Yes! That last one was awesome.

Chuck, please translate into comical animated gifs:

Spoiler:
As I understand it, we're seeing a combination of low GPU bandwidth (some of which is reserved for Kinect), slow DDR3 RAM, and a fast but small 32MB of esRAM that's creating a bottleneck.

Developers will get better at optimizing for the esRAM, but games are only going to require more GPU bandwidth (including GPU compute) and more fast RAM going forward, and X1 doesn't have enough of either. It's a real measurable hardware limitation that lots of people predicted but most didn't think would be this prevalent this soon.

I don't think this will make X1 games "bad" by any means, and it's arguable how much you'll even notice upscaling or a few frames per second, but it is what it is.
