I just don't see the issue with plugging the cord in and playing, provided it's long enough
Ideal would be: -comes with reliable, but removable, chargeable controller a la PS3 -battery pack sold separately -AA battery holder sold separately IMO |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
i will say, though, that the ps3 would recharge via usb, which was nice. i could plug it into my laptop, which is in my family room where the game stuff is, and still play. but it's obnoxious to even have to do that.

One less thing to bitch about, so everyone quick, move on to the $100 price difference!

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Nope....I'm down with that - I don't care about the extra hundred bucks at all. This is great news....I rally hope M$ FINALLY learned something from all this.

Plus all these changes resulted from all the complaining.
Great news BTW. Very happy for my Xbox brethren, and you're one step closer a box that comes without Kinect entirely (maybe reason to wait?). Anyway, game on! |

If MS dropped Kinect from the package, or ate the extra cost, I'd buy one in January. Otherwise, it'll probably be a good while longer. I've moved from never to eventually. |

So are you still the charter member of the snarky Exbox Club?

A foot long? That has to be an exaggeration...
As for me, I've had the issue where my PS3 controller was running low on battery, and find the cable that came with it too short to play comfortably while charging. I'm also the rare case that only has one PS3 controller though. I have a half dozen spare rechargeable batteries for other devices, that I used for my old Wii, other remote controls, etc so it ends up being handy. 15 foot is $1.77: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 After shipping probably about the price of one AA battery. Not trying to be snarky BTW, but rather helpful. :) |

Maybe they are the same thing in some ways, but as a point of fact, complaining alone wouldn't do it. I'd bet that they have been getting smoked in preorders, which is the only thing that really drives corporate behavior.

Anyway, game on! But yeah the bottom line is where it counts. And the fact remains that MS was adamant about the changes even after the immediate backlash. It was only about a week or so later that they canceled all DRM policies, when they had been defending them only a day earlier. No doubt the preorder numbers came in and the Xbox division shit bricks |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Glad they are still shipping it with every unit so we will actually see games utilize it. Never really cared if it was plugged in or not, not a big deal either way. If you own it, why wouldn't you plug it in?

But the thought of the Kinect accidentally breaking and the One becoming a paperweight isn't a great one, no? |

Ugh, don't buy the damn thing then. We already know you won't so begone!
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
There are also set-ups where having the Kinect would be a pain, and some where it wouldn't be possible.
Also, choice is always a good thing. Sometimes though, choice cannot be given in order for some things to move ahead. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Well, the ability to unplug completely if you want to seemed like a no-brainer. Everyone still owns one so the devs can do whatever they want. People with odd setups can unplug when not using a game that utilizes the Kinect. Seems like a win-win.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Indeed.
If you have no use for Kinect at all, then yeah, I guess you either pay the $100 extra to get the One now, or play the waiting game and hope they release a model without a Kinect. |

I could make a pretty good business case for scrapping the whole thing, buying a bunch of $400 PS4s, slapping that free Xbox One sticker on them and selling them for $500. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
One thing I have been thinking about since both consoles are using the same CPU and graphics system... will more games now be optimized on the PC for AMD instead of Intel / Nvidia - or do you think that won't change much at all?
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I still don't think Microsoft will send the console out without the Kinect either now or in the future.
Here's the why. Sony killed any developer movement or support for the PS4 Eye the moment they removed the unit from the console to beat Microsoft in price. There might be games that utilize the Eye and its features, but they'll be few and far between now. Instead PS4 users now get that blue LED light pointing to absolute nothingness. By still supporting the Kinect and including it in every console, Microsoft has given the unit an install base regardless if customers plug it into the console or not. With that comes not only developer support, but also the ability to have exclusive software that they can hold over Sony. We already have two exclusives announced that'll be only for the Kinect (Sports and Fantasia) which is already more than Sony and their respective Eye. Microsoft, since E3, has done everything right and continues to surprise every day:

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Now this really makes sense...why do they insist that the Kinect be shipped with every console while telling everyone the XO will still function without it being plugged in. They just opened all sorts of questions and you know they're coming at Gamescon...
I cannot wait till someone ask..."MS...you're saying now that the Xbox One will function without the Kinect. Why then include the Kinect in every system. Why not just have bundles with and without it?....Hmmmmmm" |

What exactly were you looking for from Sony. Is there something unclear to you? They have been consistent since June 11 and Shuhei Yoshida is killing it on Twitter. Also, in case you missed the irony, your entire list of new policies are already Sony's policies...except they sadly didn't get to fire Don Mattrick. |
