re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
So, to recap...
Sony fans who were never going to buy an XO will still never buy an XO. X360 fans who decided to switch to PS4 are staying that way because of MS flip flopping. MS fans who actually liked the prospect of an all-digital console are upset because those sharing features are presumably gone. And about 6 people cancelled their PS4 orders and switched to XO. So, what was the benefit of throwing in the towel so early? :D |

^ same here!

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I had both pre-ordered, and while I didn't care that much about the changes, this does make me slightly more inclined to keep my One pre-order.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Right, forgot that category.
Those getting both are still getting both. Way to win people over, Microsoft. |

Wow, Cliffy B, the most high profile developer who makes games exclusively for Microsoft systems, said this was a bad thing? I'm shocked!
Also, there's this false assumption that all used game sales go through Gamestop. Places like ebay, half.com, craigslist, etc. beg to differ. However, if this scheme had gone through, Gamestop would be one of the few places that you could resell your games. And yes, a cut would have been kicked back through the system, but you can't seriously believe less competition in that area would be good for consumers. |

I will also admit, Francis and a new video was the 1st thing I thought of after reading the announcement.

So, they over-corrected. Don't they see the middle ground to usher in the age of digital distribution they so desperately want to pioneer?

Ugh, both good news and terrible news at the same time. People will finally (probably not be we can hope) shut up about all this crap is a huge plus. No more family sharing and no focus on cheaper digital games and actually ushering gamers into the next generation blows. No more cloud computing possibilities in single player, no more loading multiple games onto the HDD and switching without swapping discs. Now we are stuck just how we currently are because some people demand to be offline and buy physical media. Why not just a simple disc check if your 24hr connection is not available MS???? Keep the sharing as it was!
Oh well, can still abuse Gamestop with buying used and returning so that's good ;)

Bullshit. MS did what it did because they thought it would make them more money. They saw people accept increasing amounts of DRM over the years, and assumed--wrongly--that they would accept significantly more in exchange for a higher level of convenience. You keep blaming internet bitching, but I'm telling you, if the internet bitching didn't translate to sales numbers, Microsoft wouldn't care. And change is good. Change is inevitable. But there's change for the better, and change for the worse. Too many people saw this as change for the worse, and chose to pre-order the competitor's console instead. It's as simple as that. Sony gave people what they wanted, and Microsoft didn't. You can stick your head in the sand and say how it's all our fault, but that's not true. Microsoft shot themselves in the foot. They could have made a system from the get go that supported physical media as it currently exists, while offering extra benefits for people who went digital. They refused to do that, and now they're paying the price. Simple as that.

Some Cliffy B tweets for you all. Love him or hate him, he makes a lot of valid points and knows his shit with 20+ years in the business.
*Douchebag I don't think he knows shit. Studios will close... not because of used games but because they make shitty games no one wants. He's high on the MS kool-aid. |

Am I the only one who hasn't stepped foot in a GameStop in years? Last time I was there was when they marked down the new dead stock of PS2s to $40, and that was in 2011.
I figure'd most people mainly buy and sell games on sites like eBay and Amazon nowadays. |

The last time I cleaned out my inventory, I actually went to Best Buy to do so in 2010 as I (surprisingly) got more and used it to buy Black Ops instead. |

I bought Persona 4 Golden from one when I was really bored.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Gamestop has its moments.
I hit them up when they have B2G1 sales on used games, and I recently traded in about a third of my current gen collection for PS3/Wii while they had a trade 7 games get $35 bonus credit deal. Normally I'd sell on Amazon if I were just getting rid of a few games, but it was a pretty serious pile, and I don't feel like doing all of the shipping and such. I ended up with enough to cover my PS4. They also happen to be right next to 5 Guys and Panera where I live, so it's sometimes fun to wander in and chat with the nerds who work there while my food settles. Gamestop has a function in our gaming ecosystem, and my only real beef with them is the god damn stickers they put on everything. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I feel like i'm coming off as a Microsoft apologist here, but I have to kind of chuckle at how Microsoft can't win at all. I understand those that won't buy an Xbox just to be wary and don't like that the tried to introduce this system to begin with, but the complaint that Microsoft was so incredibly anti-consumer being followed now by how Microsoft sucks because they're not trying to innovate at all is pretty funny.
To scale back "features" less then 6 months before the probable launch, it makes complete sense for them to keep it simple now and try and re-introduce some of the features later on down the line when they have more time to go back to the drawing board. They needed/wanted to act quick, and that was the best way to do it. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
To be fair, I'd say most of the people complaining about the lack of innovation are not the same people who complained about the anti-consumer issues.
And many of the people who complained about the anti-consumer issues have now said they will consider an XO, either at launch or down the line. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Other than Kinect and the price, I'm good with Microsoft...well, that and the fact that they seem to be run by a bunch of nitwit empty suits. But if they get some compelling exclusives that aren't Halo or Gears, there's a good chance I'll get one down the road. Even at launch, Titanfall looks fully badass.
As Supermallet noted, the people complaining now are the people who had staked out ground defending MS's previous positions, and the people who were complaining before are mostly placated. To be fair, it's all been pretty hard to keep up with as it's spun out of control from the moment they launched it and said "TV" 432 times. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
The forced Kinect is still something I could do without, along with the price tag, but I'm glad Microsoft at least realized that they wouldn't survive this generation without these changes.
What they're going to do now will quell some people but overall the unbelievable PR job Mattrick has been doing over the past couple of weeks is like nothing I've seen before. This was a step in the right direction. I just wish Amazon released pre-sale numbers to see what a difference today's revelation has had on the Day One system. |

Although for me, the extra $100 I'm forced to spend on a Kinect i'll never use bothers me more then any of the digital stuff, and part of me wants to wait and see if they'll change their minds on that like they did everything else. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I think this will sway a few but I still think the damage is done. MS made it clear that they don't give a shit about gamers and only care about the living room. We're just a roadblock in their way.

That's true, it just seems like a few people are still vocal in continuing to dislike anything and everything about Microsoft and those are standing out to me.
