Crazy. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Yeah reading the article they're talking about the consoles combined.
I assume they're betting the PS3 and Xbox 360 will sell an additional 45m units (combined) by the end of this gen. Roughly 255m units have been sold combined of the PS3, Wii and X360. 300m if you count the Vita and 3DS but I don't think they are. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Are there a billion people with electricity AND the funds to buy consoles?
|
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
You have to account for people that buy multiple consoles.
I own a Wii, PS3, 360 and a Wii U. Soon to be just a PS3 and 360. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I mentioned this in the PS4 thread : the Xbox One is $100 more than the PS4 almost assuredly due to the fact it had to include a Kinect 2 to operate. What Microsoft has yet to "educate" me about is why is the Kinect required to use the system? Everything I've seen so far make it look like a bunch of semi-useful tech options. I've not seen anything that looks like an essential part of the hardware to play all games on the system. Even all their oppressive DRM stuff would seem to work without a Kinect there to spy on you. It would have gone a long way to both keep the costs down and make the system seem less Orwellian, while still maintaining all the nifty functionality I've seen demoed so far if they had just made it an option to purchase like it is on the 360 now.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Yeah, I'm a kinect supporter, and would gladly pay a $100 premium for it, but I don't like the idea of it being forced into stuff.
|
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Ok, the combined consoles at 400 million is a little easier to digest, but no, that's not going to happen. Fewer consoles this gen then last, I can almost guarantee it.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I think the included Kinect is more to create a differentiator. Developers are more inclined to include it if they know everybody has it...why buy Bioshock Infinite on the PS4 when you can buy it for Xbox One and lace up Elizabeth's corset with your hands?
|
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Because then you're just a pathetic and lonely man who needs a real doll?

But why make it mandatory? Bioshock Infinite on the PS3 had Move available (God knows why), but at least it was optional. Are MS going to force publishers into including Kinect functionality into every game? Will that Kinect functionality be required during gameplay (like Metroid Other M and Donkey Kong Country Returna had mandatory waggle controls that ruined those games).
I disagree with it in general but the part I really disagree with is that it's required to be on and enabled. |
I'm still amazed of what I'm reading here...
No difference between DVD and bluray? Wtf! |

How could I be doing it wrong? I buy a bluray, put it in the bluray player and look at TV. I am not saying it isn't better. It absolutely is better 1080P vs 480P (correct?), but in my eyes I don't really notice the difference all that much. *ducks behind couch* I am not bashing bluray at all. When i buy future movies, I will buy bluray and when I go to redbox I get the bluray disc. I mainly stream movies from Netflix so it doesn't really matter. |

"If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say “Xbox Off.” When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- “Xbox On,” and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences." So, it's not required to be on or enabled. The issue I have here is... can it be completely disconnected without getting a, "Hey. It looks like you dis-Kinected (see what we did there?). Why did you do this? Please plug it in, or you cannot continue to do the freaky shit you're doing. Perv." error. |
I got Kinect when it was released and barely used it. I plug it when my kids want to play they Disneyland game.
Nowadays, I'll love it just so my wife can watch Netflix by herself. Right now I have to go to the bedroom, use the harmony to turn on the Xbox, login, turn on Netflix. I'm expecting that she should be able to say Xbox On, Xbox Netflix and that's it! |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Yeah no idea, "pause kinect" is an odd way to say disable.
|
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I need to disable the Kinect on my 360. I never use it, and I'm tired of seeing the message "'One Sucks' is not a command" pop up when I talk about E3.

It's mandatory because then it's standard - everybody has it not just a select bunch. It makes the audience bigger. And any game can support it and not have to slap a "KINECT REQUIRED" sticker on the box for 10 seconds of gameplay.

Naw the way I see it, it's more Sixaxis than Wii-mote.

Microsoft to gamers: No internet? Buy a 360
By Chris Morris | Plugged In – 2 hours 30 minutes ago (Credit: Microsoft) Microsoft seems to be making a habit out of shooting itself in the foot. With gamers still smarting over the company’s $499 pricing announcement for the Xbox One, the head of the Xbox division has ruffled more feathers in addressing concerns about the system’s demand for a internet connection. "We have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity - it's called Xbox 360," Don Mattrick told Geoff Keighley on GameTrailers. |

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
SomethingMore, did you really say that the Xbone is better because your games can't be physically stolen?
Here's a different scenario for you. In 2050, my physical PS4 games will still play if I have a working PS4 (hey, I have an SNES plugged in, so don't laugh), or maybe on a later PS console if backwards compatibility is included. If Microsoft abandons the Xbox line in 2025, where will you be able to play your Xbone games? Hell, I'll even give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they shut off the 24 hour check in requirement (or likely always on requirement by then) when they shut down the servers. All you have are the games you have digitally stored. Then you have the same problem as people with physical discs (system could be stolen or damaged), but on top of it, hard drives WILL fail given enough time, and once your hard drive with your locally stored game dies, you can't just buy another cheap copy like you could of a physical disc. So if you REALLY want to think about the long game, physical media without digital restrictions trumps the digital model every time. |
