Re: Bungie - Destiny
Finally hit Level 20 yesterday...both the Titan and Warlock...and hit Mars for the first time. I probably need to start looking in some of the new stuff that opened up and plufg along on the side missions, knock out bounties that seemed impossible back when I was Level 10-15.
All I can say is this...Bungie nailed the locations; Earth, Moon, Venus and Mars. Each providing some amazing landscapes and huge areas. I went looking around Mars late last night and the "City Area" was stunning. I look back and remember the first Halo...wow this stuff has come a long, long way...

I'm having fun with the game, personally. I like to pace my missions and not feel like I'm in a rush to finish all the time. I've been going on more patrols just to practice with new weapons and collect more loot. I have to start getting strategic about that since I'm a little inconsistent with my pickups and load-outs. Right now, I bailed on the Venus mission to get the head of that giant, but now that I know where its weak spot is, I'll knock it out tonight. Two more levels until 20!

The game is pretty and the gameplay is solid. It's also pretty fun moment to moment with friends, but I really feel like I'm hitting a wall with my enjoyment of the progression system.
Once I hit level 20, it feels like the only thing there is to do is farm for slightly better versions of shit I already have. At the end of the day, you have 3 different primaries, 3 different secondaries and 2 different heavies with fairly inconsequential different variations and upgrades. In Borderlands and Warframe, there are literally hundreds of different unique and crazy weapons to find/farm, and in Warframe's case, you craft them and can customize them to a much greater degree with mods and colors.
I'm also not crazy about some of the best gear being locked behind PVP, which I probably wouldn't be interested in even if it were good PVP...and it isn't.
Cognitive dissonance. I'm enjoying the game, but it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere.

I actually might like to give the 6 vs 6 a go on that Domination Type mode. Other than that still have the story to finish. lots of bounties but mainly want to get in those modes which get unlocked at Level 20.

And I'll be damned if I'm going to sit in front of a cave shooting into it for hours in hopes that I get a very slightly better version of one of the 8 guns I already have. I'll take my chances with a strike mission or something.

"Beat" the game last night, was at level 20 when I beat the "boss" but was still crazy. Would easily say so far the hardest level playing through for me was the strike on the moon.
Afterwards at the Tower saw a Level 27, I don't even want to know how much they play the game. He looked awesome though.

But yeah. 4 gun types with very little to make them unique or interesting. 3 secondaries (fusion, shotty and sniper) and 2 heavies (machine gun and rocket launcher).
Hopefully point still taken. I'm getting guns that feel exactly the same but with slightly higher numbers. Not even worth farming for.

I know most here don't care about PvP but those who want to take on Bungie at their own game
tonight you can earn an exclusive emblem if you encounter and beat a bungie team in the crucible.
Each week, those of you who defeat them will win this player emblem.
When fellow Guardians see The Sign of Opposing Will on your nameplate they’ll ask, “Where did you get that?”
You’ll be able to tell them, “I beat Bungie at their own game!”
Your mission (if you choose to accept it) is:
Clash
Thursday, September 18th
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM Pacific
PlayStation 4
Encountering us will not be enough to earn your reward. You’ll need to achieve victory against our designated team. Here are some of your marks:
imtylerdurden Josh Hamrick, Senior Designer
CE_Wizard Jon Weisnewski, Designer
Thug Larz Lars Bakken, Design Lead
DeeJ BNG Yours Truly, Community Manager
…and alternates to be named at gametime.
To claim your prize, win. Then, post a link to your victory in the comments below this article before High Noon (Pacific) the following day (Friday). Look for the Permalink in the upper right corner of every match view. Your link should lead us to something like this. No proof, no reward!

Re: Bungie - Destiny
The secret to gear in this game that a lot of people have overlooked while they're shooting into a cave for hours on end hoping for random drops: get your faction rank up and earn credits (whether it be Vanguard, Crucible, or another of the factions you can join). Once you get a faction to level 2, you can use the credits you've earned to buy legendary gear from their vendor. At faction level 3 you unlock the ability to buy legendary weapons. While you're working on those, you should be earning a few items along the way (Strange Coins, Motes of Light) that will let you buy exotic gear from the special weekend vendor. All of this takes a long time to do, especially with the credits being capped at 100 per week for each of the two methods of earning them.
That's the easy part. Gathering the material to upgrade those legendary/exotic weapons and gear is another whole level of repetitious grinding.

With the way this is set up I'm thinking I may finish up the story in the next week or two, sell it back to Gamestop by 10/7 and get half my money back. It needs a lot of work to make it a game worth owning more than a month. If they end up throwing a lot of worthwhile content at it I "might" pick it back up on the cheap down the road and play some more.

Nothing is locked behind PvP. You just have to do a lot of work in PvE to get the gear you want.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Did a couple more story missions on Venus last night. We have been choosing the second Hard difficulty (level 20), so it has been really challenging and fun. I'm still a little confused on the leveling system now though. I equipped one piece of armor last night that only had like +3 light and it almost shot me up to level 21. But the rest of the drops through the night were pretty shitty.
