Re: Bungie - Destiny
Well I actually like that they're hard to get. If it were easy everyone would have them... and then they really wouldn't be that special. Seems like it's actually an accomplishment to obtain one.

I guess I beat the game, I think. That last level on Mars, was it
If so, I got "The Strangers Gun."
I don't really care for the single shot fusion guns. I prefer the sniper rifles and the ones that have exploding bullets. They're easier to handle.

There's a particular sniper gun that shoots "fire bullets" or the bullets have a bit of fire to them. I'll check what the name of the gun is. I think I still have it equipped or it's in the vault cuz I got a much more powerful sniper gun with different bullets. The icon of the gun is orange.

Yes, those are Exotic items, and they're the hardest to get in the game (as if Legendary wasn't already hard enough to get).
There's a very (very) small chance you can get one as a random reward in the post-game of a strike or PvP. There's a very (very) small chance the Cryptarch can give you one when you trade in a Legendary (purple) engram once you level him up enough.
You can also buy one from the vendor mentioned above, who is only in the tower on Fridays and Saturdays. You'll need to do lots of farming for Strange Coins and possibly other rare materials in order to be able to afford one.
The third way is by randomly receiving an Exotic bounty when you go to turn in other finished bounties. You'll get a choice of 3 gold bounties, each of which will give you an Exotic weapon at the end. I got one of these today. But wait! You'll have to work for that weapon. A lot. Here's a list of some of the things you have to do to complete the Exotic bounties, and keep in mind that you'll have to do several of these to finish one bounty:
1. Complete a Weekly heroic strike
2. Complete 25 strikes (yes, 25 - this is one of the requirements for the one I received today)
3. Dismantle 10 rare or higher weapons (of a particular kind)
4. Complete 5 strikes without dying
5. Earn a K/D spread of 25 in the Crucible (meaning 25 more kills than deaths)
6. Kill 500 enemies using a particular kind of damage (Void, etc.)
So, have fun! Or not.

My steps are:
Spoiler:
Invective is a sweet ass shotgun that slots as your primary weapon. The 25 K/D spread isn't as daunting as it seems. I thought I had no chance (again, I suck), but there's one thing that really helps: Assists count as kills. So stick in a group, and either get kills, or just do some damage.
I would also suggest doing a couple of things that might be considered dickish. One, if you get the Mars map with vehicles, leave instantly. Smaller maps give you better chances at multikills, especially with your super charge move. Two, if you get put on a shit team versus a bunch of pros, again, leave.
EDIT: Finally got my Shotgun! It's an auto shotgun, and is awesome in PvP. It also regenerates ammo once upgraded.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
My friend just started playing so I took my level 15 character and was doing the first earth missions with him since he was level 4. I was getting uncommon loot at my level or above quite frequently, and while doing a level 4 earth patrol even received a rare item. I thought that was pretty strange. I guess the loot levels up with you, but the enemies don't?

that gun you get unlocks full auto after one level up. It is actually a nice gun for level 16...

Also, I'm 99.9% sure that any loot you see on the ground is for you only. Anyone else in your fire team gets their own loot. In other words, you can't run around stealing all the loot like in Borderlands. The loot that's dropped stays on the ground until YOU pick it up.
That's why I think it doesn't matter if higher level people play with lower level people. I know people on here have said, "my guy is only level 8" so maybe they feel like people won't want to join them. But it doesn't matter. Higher level guys get higher level loot, and the level 8 guy will still get his level 8 loot. And you can't "steal" it from the other guy. I really don't see any downside to playing with friends/clanmates that are mismatched level-wise.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Maybe you can answer this one too...
Is it possible for you to get loot from other peoples kills?
I think it is. I'm done with the story, so I mostly play strikes. Obviously in the strike there are enemies everywhere, so the fireteam members tend to get spread out. But once the area is clear, I run around and pick up loot I may have missed and I swear there are loot drops in places I never was. So I'm thinking that one of the other players killed something, but I (or technically everyone) still get the loot.

Yep, you get loot, XP, and credit towards kill challenges for the activity of other players in the vicinity, even if you never landed a shot on the enemies. I'm not sure what the range is.
In fact, if you run into another player who happens to be farming enemy respawn points for loot, you can put your controller down, sit back, enjoy the XP gains, and then run in and grab all the loot that's just for you.

Dumb question, I was thinking about starting a secondary character buy my friend still wants to continue his level 19 one. If I tag along with him and don't kill nearly as many enemies as him, will I still level up at the same pace? Even if he does most of the killing? Or will I only level up based on how many enemies I kill?

Re: Bungie - Destiny
I thought so.
That basically reinforces the idea that it doesn't matter if people play together even if they're at different points in the (meaningless) story or are a good deal apart level-wise. I like that.
Everyone should jump in a friends game if there's a spot. Play together, it's much more fun. All the loot and XP is distributed to everyone and there really doesn't seem to be any negatives.
Personally, I've only played a few games of Battlefield with a just handful of the PS3 DVDTalkers so it would be nice to get more involved in the group.

Still don't think that helps me since I suck at MP. My KD ratio is usually between .75 and 1.0. So does that mean I would have to play Crucible 33.33 times with a KD ratio of .75? (25/.75=33.3). It does help a bit per what TheKing said that assists count as kills.

The Crucible is a joke. Melee attacks are ineffective on my end, but I get killed instantly by others? Huh? Maybe I need to read up on the Crucible, but I don't understand how my high impact weapon barely lays a dent. I'm better off throwing grenades and taking out multiple guys (if I time it right). Maybe it gets better after level 20 with the weapons selection.

Are you aiming for headshots? I routinely kill players way above my level.
