only other deal I can think of is if you had GCU at BB .... there would be a discount off of the $60 price for the Legendary Edition plus whatever value you could get from trading in vanilla Destiny ... probably not going to be close to the $20 Gamestop is offering toward TTK

there aren't going to be deals to be found on The Taken King alone since it is a digital download purchased via PSN or Xbox marketplace .... I suppose if you had or found a good deal on store credits this would be the way to discount but I believe you have to own the 2 previous DLCs to purchase TTK digital DLC

OK, for all of you wondering how long it would take to reach Level 40...well, some of us did it in seconds. ;)

Old bounties + Focused Light = Level 40.

What is focused light? I hit 36 just turning in a few bounties. It feels weird equipping green stuff again.

So I logged in real quick this morning and did some of the new quests that had you going around and getting new items like engrams shaders, etc. For the engram does everyone get the same weapon or is it a roll like everything else? I ended up getting the Monte Carlo exotic so I was wondering if I finally for once in this game got a lucky roll or are they giving everyone something really powerful. The picture of the engram before I turned it in was green but not sure that had anything to do with it.

FYI Amazon is offering $33 for trading in The Taken King Legendary Edition. Since supposedly the disc version is just the same disc as the old one with a DLC code included it makes it a pretty good deal (of course it's a little shady, but whatever).

get Red Bull code
redeem it at quest.redbull.com/us/en/
it will redirect you to Bungie.net to apply it to your account

redeeming the code will give you access to a quest (quest will be open to all Jan 1 16 if you don't have the code) and a Focused Light package will appear at your postmaster .... pull it out with one of your characters and it will give an XP boost of 50% for 30 minutes .... multiple codes (up to 100 on an account) will give you additional Focused Light to use

*** caveat: people used code generators and code manipulation to guess what some of the codes were so there is a chance you can purchase a can(s) of Red Bull (yuck) and have redeemed codes
I believe if you save your receipt either Bungie or Red Bull will generate a new code in this case

Yeah, I got Thorn because I had the exotic bounty. I then got bad juju from the green engram.

How does upgrading the year 1 carryover work? Specifically I am looking at Hawkmoon...or do I actually need a Hawkmoon v2 to drop? I don't see any "infusion" options for the old exotics.

That's disappointing. I've barely played yet and I'm 36. Most of my clan are 40 with 200+ light level already.

I am enjoying the new story missions. Sounds like there's not a lot of them though.

Dang. Good deal. Wish I had seen that sooner. Well, he pre-ordered last night an got a GameSpot exclusive so I guess that would offset it. And they gave away an extremely cool, double sided, huge Taken King poster. Very high quality and looked very sharp. They were just giving them away so your local GS may have one if you ask nicely for you Destiny fanatics.

Getting to 40 isn't the grind. 40 is virtually meaningless, and just lets you use any gear you find.

Light Level is the grind, just like it was before. Want to play the end game content? Get that light up. I think the Light level for the weekly is 240 and for the nightfall it's 260.

It's still going to take a while to max out the new subclass, and get enough weapons and armor to be as versatile as we were last week. And on top of that, Legendary Marks are as rare as I expected. You won't be able to just buy things from the tower anytime soon, so you're a slave to RNG.
