Setting things up through a message board is not even remotely as quick and convenient as match making would be.
Not sure about this either. LFG at least allows me to pre-screen the people I'm going to play with, and I'd rather do that work up front to maximize my chances at a smooth run.

Random matchmaking for the raid would be a mess, because all it takes is one person to hose the entire 6-man team and even if you happen to get 6 who know what they are doing, you'd still have people dropping out. Hell, I get people dropping out of simple strikes all the time. Randoms are the worst.

Gotta agree with Chess on this one. You'd be spinning your wheels getting no where if you joined a match-making made raid group. Before I ran a raid, I was on the bandwagon of hoping Bungie would add that feature to raids. But now after a handful of runs under my belt, I see how it would be extremely frustrating and disappointing to get near the end and have people bail on you if they left for whatever reason. There are 2 LFG sites and an iOS app to help with finding a raid if you can't grab one with the Daggers. I haven't had to use them yet but I know Chess and a few others have had good success.

Now, the weeklies are a different story... Bungie should implement match-making for those as they are not that difficult and can be done with randoms.

People go AFK on strikes all the time, imagine how bad it would be if they did it on raids? Using a site like lfg, or gamefaqs is very quick, and you can control who is in your fire team. Then you have people to play with in the future. Join a friends game to run the daily, weekly or nightfall.

If WoW got raid matchmaking to work with 25 people, I think Destiny can do it with 6.

If you want to raid on your own schedule, the LFG sites are the best way to go. And they're excellent in my experience. I've used them many times. Like Chess said, nowadays most people on that site have a few raids under their belt already so things go very smooth. When I first started doing raids, that's all I used, and I was always very successful. I even have a few new friends in my friends list because of doing raids from that site.

They have patched the top daily mission to level 30. I imagine they have also updated the Weekly Heroic and Nightfall top level to 30 as well.

Edit: Nope, looks like just the top Daily story for now has been upgraded to 30.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Why get rid of 28 though? Keep 28 and add a fourth at 30.

Wow, I upgraded the Cryptarch and got two purple engrams! One for boots and one for a special weapon. I'm saving them for the changeover along with a couple other legendaries I already have.

Sooooooooooo

Nightfall and weekly are DLC exclusive this week, annnnnnd we have to wait for Xur to get here to do them.....

*edit* maybe not. It seems if you do 3 quests(not missions) they unlock.

Yup. That's a swift kick in the nuts.

Already feeling a tad ripped off. The "new" story missions are just recycling most of the same areas as before.

The semi-good news is that you don't need vanguard commendations for everything. I picked up new boots and gloves with just vanguard marks. I'm not sure if maxing those both out will be enough to get me to 31 though. We'll see.

And the new vanguard gear confirms the fear that your old raid stuff is now worthless. Oh joy.

EDIT: Xur isnt required to do the nightfall. You just have to do all the "other" Eris bounties first. Involves killing things while on patrol.

From what I'm gathering "Eris Morn" serves multiple purposes. This is what I got off Gameinformer...

To start the content, you’re going to want to visit Eris Morn to accept a quest. Once you rank up with her enough, you’ll be able to take on bounties. Eventually, you’ll be able to buy materials that allow you to upgrade weapons that she gifts.

So in other words you need to complete the quests first and once ranked high enough you can then do the bounties? Are these on top of the normal bounties as well and anyone know if they can overlap....like having a bounty getting 100 kills without dying and one of these from Eris?

TheKing 12-09-14 09:00 AM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Yeah, as others have said, in order to do the Nightfall and Weekly this week, you not only need the DLC, but you need to do the three DLC story missions first. Then you have to patrol Earth and do some killing there as well. While they did reuse a lot of areas, they were at least the lesser used areas.

I got through the Nightfall and weekly with my Hunter of all people. The purple engrams I saved from the last couple days ended up decoding to pre-DLC crap. Then on the Nightfall I got a crappy Dead Orbit Scout Rifle, while one partner got the new updated Suros and the other got the Glasshouse Titan Helmet. I did end up with a decent new Pulse Rifle, and a new Shotgun. And of course doing the missions does get you the Murmur Fusion Rifle that switches between arc and solar damage. Sadly, the Solar side is slow as hell, but the Arc worked decent in the Nightfall/weekly with Arc Burn.

BTW, that is not an easy, or short Strike. Bring your best arc weapons, and pray.

The Eris bounties aren't too tough, like get 7 melee kills in rapid succession, or 15 kills with the crota sword on Earth I believe. There's a Titan specific bounty today to kill 7 with the Fist Of Havoc. And the bounties are available right away. It's stuff like emblems and the upgrade materials that you need to rank her up to buy. She has 5 levels I believe.

Gooter 12-09-14 09:17 AM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Scott, I'm disappointed. I expected you to have finished the Crota raid by now. :p

One of the last 3 Eris missions/bounties bugged on me so I couldn't finish it before work. Will have to do it tonight to get the weeklies to open up. Scott, how hard do you think the weekly/NF will be going in as a 29? Also, I assume each of our characters has to progress through Eris' missions?

Also, FYI, for those of you saving Vanguard packages with the Postmaster in hopes of getting commendations today.... it didn't work for me, I didn't get a commendation on the one I had saved. I did buy the new Vanguard boots and gloves so I will be able to get to level 30 but not 31. Will need to save up a shit ton of marks for that as the helm and chest are 120 I think (?), plus the commendation.

total light of 131 will get you to level 31. that is all 4 pieces of the new vendor gear (33 x 4 = 132). can't have any old gear equipped unless it is an exotic that you upgrade via Xur. so, like you said, VoG raid gear is worthless.

speaking of VoG, is there any reason to run it now?

The weapons are still good. Fatebringer kicked major ass on the Nightfall. As long as you have good arc weapons, it's doable at 29, but it's rough. Everything is shooting arc back at you, and there are 3 major battles in the strike, none of which you can run past. Nightfall also has lightswitch, which is really nasty with Thralls and the invisible fallen vandals.

There's a relatively safe spot for all three battles though, you can hang back usually and pick enemies off.

OK, after finishing off my Hunter, I went in with my Titan and turned in my bounties, which ranked up his Vanguard. In the package I got a sparrow (like I needed another one), and a new pair of boots. So one less thing to buy. With the commendation, I bought a chest piece, which will allow me to wear exotic helmets again. Yay! Chest, arms and boots all cost 75 marks, and the chest requires the commendation to buy. Helmets are 120 and require the commendation.

I bought the gauntlets for my Titan as well, so now I just need Xur to offer my helmets for upgrade and I can get to 31. The Titan gauntlets from Vanguard have fur! Well, sort of. I'll post a pic in a bit.

I can admit I got my money's worth out if the main game. I enjoyed it a lot in the beginning. It's pretty much all I played for the last 3 months.

That being said, $20 for this new "DLC" which is basically just reusing all the same areas and enemies that were already in the game? I'm not thrilled with it. But I can't say I wasn't expecting it.

Really? I totally thought the DLC would be not just new areas, but entire new planets. God, what a fucking gyp.

TheKing 12-09-14 11:53 AM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Well, from what I've seen of it so far from Twitch and YouTube, the new Raid looks insane.

Makes the vault of glass look like a cakewalk (which I guess it kind of is after a while...). And apparently 1 group finished it...in 6 hours, using 7 players. One guy actually ranked himself up to 31, while the rest of the players did the Raid, then joined in the later part to do the last part. Doing this raid at 30 is almost like doing the hard Vault Of Glass at 28, maybe 29.

I switched into my Warlock, who was 3 points away from ranking up in Dead Orbit. Did a quick patrol mission, and ranked it up to Level 4. The Dead Orbit care package dropped a Crucible Commendation, which is required to buy the chests and helmets from the factions. It also dropped gauntlets...for my Titan. Oy.

And here's my Titan with his new armor, complete with "fur" on the shoulder:

From the very first footage of this expansion, it was pretty clear (to me at least) that we'd be fighting the same, or very similar, enemies in very familiar environments. New planets/classes would've been nice, but I wouldn't expect anything like that until the next season of DLC, or even Destiny 2.

mattysemo247 12-09-14 12:21 PM

Yeah, I wouldn't expect new planets at this point until Destiny 2 comes out in 2016.

still hurting today from staying up with chase and gooter till after 5am doing some of the new stuff
(logged off after killing the 25 Hive majors quest)

content was exactly what I expected (opening of new areas on the places we have already been with similar enemies)

I did get 2 new higher level legendary pieces of armor with my first postmaster package ... helmet for my Warlock and armor for my Titan (can't remember what piece it was)

I really liked Murmur (unleveled) from what little time I had to use it

look forward to knocking out some more content (including the Nightfall) tonight

But then what are they charging money for? Pretty much every DLC of games (especially MMOs like WoW) have new environments and enemies. Very cheap on Bungie's part, especially for such a "costly" game.
