Assume I'm a new Destiny player.

I see the path gets me to Level 40. I also see that I could possibly do the VOG when I get to around Level 25, which just so happens to be the boost point.

How many people are there going to be to help me do the VOG when I'm a level 25? Other newbies? The vets who know the raid will likely be done with it now, so no help there. So I get in a raid with a bunch of newbs and it goes horrible (like many of my raids last year did). Do I keep trying to get gear from there, or do I push forward to 30, 35, 40?

Remember, VOG was our ONLY option to get to 30 until November when Iron Banner was handing out Level 30 gear. And even then you still needed a chest or helmet from VOG. New players aren't handcuffed by that. When they get to 29, they'll be right at 30. Then 34, then 35, then 40.

Think these newbs are going to farm for a Husk Of The Pit so they can get an Eidelon Ally so they can get a Necro? Doubtful.

The new players starting out aren't starting like we did. I'm not complaining about that, but it does mean that farming for stuff that will already be obsolete when they get it doesn't make much sense.

Normal Crucible will be the only viable place for these weapons. They're the equivalent of holding onto The Stranger's Rifle or other blue guns. Exotics shouldn't be treated that way.

But honestly, what really has me ticked off is how bad they butchered this reveal today. Say what you want about House Of Wolves, but they knocked that reveal out of the park.

I feel like all the new cool tidbits were things we already knew, and everything else was pretty shitty.

Going from 1200 combined marks to 200 when there will finally be something worth buying? Shitty.
Only deeming some Exotics of being worthy to continue? Shitty.
Asking for questions from the community only to do a stupid gag about vault space instead? Shitty X 10.

Aside from vault space, I just didn't see anything here that gets me excited. The HOW reveal was exciting as hell. And for them to pull out the rug from under everyone and lose all that good will from selling the GHorn was just terrible marketing. I can't see how this reveal is going to get people to buy TTK if they were on the fence.

So all current legendary weapons will be useless after this comes out or what

musick 08-19-15 04:42 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

well for the newbies you mention above there is not path to the higher levels until they reach TTK content so again the Y1 weapons will have value to them and will hardly be obsolete ... not all players play the way we have and do in terms of time invested .... if Bungie is only relying on bringing the Y1 players along and not bringing in fresh blood to experience the things we did early on the game will die

listen, I'd be fine with all exotics coming with us and being able to be advanced year to year as opposed to Bungie cherry picking what they feel viable Y2 content should be but I'll be just as happy to leave some of that stuff behind and move on to something new and fresh if the content delivers such

as I said before I'll reserve some judgement until I can actually watch the presentation but in just reading along I have to agree with you that there wasn't a lot of meat provided .... I'll blame some of that on the community and how we pick apart every detail we can get early on making suprises a lot harder for Bungie since a lot of the stuff is already out in the open but I did feel they left a lot of lingering questions ... not so sure HoW was much better in terms of providing clear details
There is no way they were going to present their content and address all questions in an hour time so hopefully more details emerge in the coming weeks

it does seem like a lot more math has been introduced and I hate math in my videogames

I was expecting a Spire to form in my pants today, but someone must have stepped off one of the plates. Really love some of the things they announced, but the whole "we are only bringing some year 1 exotic weapons to year 2" left me scratching my head. Bottom line is I don't care about leaving weapons behind, provided that there are superior replacements to chase.

Speaking of Chase and superior weapons, are we running VOG tonight?

Seeing as there is a Year 2 version of the [REDACTED], I would technically like to still get it.

I'd be up for VoG if there is enough interest from others. Should be on later than usual.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

I don't have any reason to complain. This game has been an obsession of mine since I started playing at the beginning of the year. I've had a blast getting everything I have and I'm thrilled I'll be able to turn in my Year 1 stuff for resources I can actually use.

While I've had the Gjallehorn, it's been useful, so I'll be ready to upgrade anyway.

As far as HoW being a money grab...maybe. But who cares? I'd have gladly paid $10/month to play this game and instead they charged me $30 once for months worth of gameplay. I hope they do it again next spring with a couple mini expansions. :P

Re: Bungie - Destiny

just watched the presentation from today and really didn't have a problem with it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prLC...ature=youtu.be

what I do think is needed is some (cooldown) time to digest the info provided and then for Bungie to have an open Q&A with its community to answer some of the lingering questions

I don't think these presentations/reveals are meant to give the answers to everything and don't even think answering live questions immediately right after would have been productive

anyhow, maybe not the most engaging personalities presenting but we all saw what the response was last time when they went with the other extreme

just watched the whole video

gotta say i really like all the changes, using the field test weapons to rank up the gunsmith is pretty sweet

Re: Bungie - Destiny

According to Luke Smith you can use Motes to level up your year 2 weapons. So break down your raid weapons, convert gained energy into shards, then convert shards into motes, then use motes to buff new weapons. What a simple and streamlined process!

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Weekly update

https://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Week...News?aid=13414

They have answered some more questions, and confirmed that the Gjallarhorn is not coming to Year 2.

We knew this first salvo of reveals would result in some new questions. New information always does. We’re not complaining, mind you, so don’t change a thing about yourselves. To see if we can satisfy some of the fresh curiosity, we’ve approximated a Q/A between the community hive mind and the developers who staff our command center.

Why are the numbers on the Guardians different?
We’ve altered the way Light and Level are calculated to enable a more streamlined evolution of your characters
Leveling up your Guardian is now a product of earning experience in the game
Increasing your Light is now a product of acquiring and equipping more powerful gear

How will you calculate the new numbers you’ll assign to my Guardians in Year Two?
We’ll determine your level based on the gear in your inventory and your Vault
Don’t dismantle your best stuff before you begin your Year Two adventure

What about weapons and my armor? The Attack and Defense ratings are different, too!
We’ve changed the values of Year One items to provide a unified experience that flows seamlessly into Year Two
Aside from the weapon tuning in Update 2.0, your Year One weapons will perform in Year One activities as you would expect

How do those Exotic Blueprints work?
When players discover an Exotic, they will also have discovered the Blueprint for it

What do you mean by a Blueprint?
It’s a schematic required to craft previously discovered weapons and armor
Once you have collected a Blueprint for an Exotic, you can “purchase” it anew using the required forms of currency

Blueprints enable us to acquire a copy of the same item?
Blueprints provide you with a new item that must be upgraded
The Blueprint stations are not an extension of your Vault – your space there has been doubled for easy access to your favorite upgraded items

Where are my Blueprints stored?
Blueprints are stored in two collection stations near the Vanguards in the Hall of Guardians
One for Exotic Weapon Blueprints
One for Exotic Armor Blueprints

How do I unlock new Blueprints?
They are archived automatically when you discover a new Exotic

Can I share them between my Guardians?
Yes: Blueprints for discovered Exotics can be accessed by any character on your account

Which Exotics will be available in Year Two?
In addition to a bunch of brand new Exotics for you to discover in Year Two, we’re redesigning and redeploying select Exotics from Year One
For example: No Backup Plans has been redesigned
We significantly extended the duration of the old perk “Improved Disintegrate”
Now, Shotgun kills will also trigger Force Barrier when its off of cooldown
And yes, when triggered via Shotgun, Force Barrier also gets the benefit of the selected perk (Shotgun kills can trigger War Machine)

Did you redesign Gjallarhorn?
Gjallarhorn will remain a Year One Exotic at Year One levels

How can I acquire the Year Two Exotics that have evolved from Blueprints I discovered in Year One?
Select weapons and armor pieces that have been redesigned for Year Two can be purchased for Legendary Marks, assuming you discovered the original Year One Blueprints

What are Legendary Marks?
Legendary Marks will replace Vanguard Marks and Crucible Marks as a new form of unifying currency in the Tower

How can I earn Legendary Marks?
By completing Daily Story Chapters, Weekly Heroic Strikes, and Daily PVP Activities
By dismantling Year Two Legendary items – assuming you don’t have the maximum value of 200 Legendary Marks associated with your player account

Is there a weekly cap on Legendary Marks?
There is no cap to how many Legendary Marks a player can earn in a week
The maximum number of Legendary Marks any player account can hold is capped at 200

Can I also share Legendary Marks between my Guardians?
Legendary Marks are account-bound like Glimmer and shared across all of your characters

What will happen to my old Vanguard and Crucible Marks from Year One?
When The Taken King is released, blocks of fifty Vanguard and Crucible Marks will be converted into one reputation consumable

Now that my nameplate displays my Light and Level, where can I strut my Grimoire score?
It will be displayed under your Level when your Guardian is inspected

Are you raising the Glimmer Cap?
The Glimmer cap remains as it has been in Year One
You’ll have plenty to spend it on in Year Two

Can we have more Vault space?
How about if we double it?

Re: Bungie - Destiny

^ hardly anything new in terms of answers

Year Two of Destiny is full of surprises – some we’re willing to preview and some we’ll insist you discover upon further exploration of the solar system.
fair enough

and as I said before I'm not bothered by Ghorn (and others) remaining a Y1 level weapon

In light of this terrible news, I've changed my Avatar. Now I'm going to go watch some Ghorn videos while listening to "I Will Remember You" by Sarah McLachlan.

musick 08-20-15 04:31 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

[obvious]you can still use a Ghorn in TTK (even at Y1 levels and with the nerf) just as some people are happy using a un-ascended 300 level VoG weapon such as FB in HoW with success[/obvious]

give me new toys to play with

Fitting and well done......I admit I haven't kept up much till recent news but I now know why Xur was selling this to clear out all stock. They should've done a "Buy 1, Get 1 Free"....shame because the G-Horn has become such a staple of Destiny. I guess the two I bought might end up as "paper-weights"

Any interest in a signup sheet for Day 1 of Taken King for people that want to go through the story as a fireteam? I figure we can get together in groups of 3 dependent on what time people plan on playing.
