If you follow where they are dropping, you can pretty efficiently farm them (and do bounties and patrols along the way). I like the moon ones on Archers Line and Anchor of Light because they are so close together both geographically and usually chronologically. They also have a good chance of being Warsats, which are really good for XP. Earth can be really good too, especially if you have bounties that are easy to pick up there. You get 4 Marks per public event, plus a bonus 2 for your first one every day IIRC. You also get some for Nightfalls and Dailies/Weeklies, but they aren't quite as efficient as public events. Getting to your cap of 100 per week per character is really pretty easy to be honest. Still can't afford vanguard gear. I do have one exotic, but I can't level it up because I need to dismantle another exotic I don't have for the shard to do so. |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
yeah, the destinypublicevents actually has an app for your phone. I just have my phone with me and ran from event to event.
The moon between archer's line and anchor of light is good. I also ran a lot on earth between steppes, mothyard and divide. I thought 100 marks per week seemed like a ton at first but doing 4 or 5 public events a day will get you to 100 marks in no time. |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
I probably just suck, but how is this jump possible in the Skolas ransom?
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/image...32250414_1.jpg In every walkthrough video I've watched, everyone makes the jump effortlessly, but they seem to be able to jump 20 stories high or something. I can't come anywhere close to that height/distance with my Voidwalker. I've tried (literally!) twenty times, alternating between Glide and Blink, and I fell short every time. Any advice? |

Wasn't there supposed to be the ability to swap shard types and also re-roll weapons amd armor for different attributes? How/where are those done?

So, yeah, as suspected, I sucked. :) |

Re: Bungie - Destiny
OK folks, here we go with the Xur 3.0 Report, brought to you by the Queen. She's hot, she's pissed, and we're dealing out her wrath.
Meet the new Xur, same as the old Xur, meaning he's selling the same old crap. It's just in a new location. Xur is located in the Reef! From where you spawn in, you want to go right down the walkway, make another right, and you'll see an open pod bay door. Xur is in there. http://oi57.tinypic.com/24cbpd2.jpg As I said, he's selling a bunch of stuff we've seen before many times. For the Titan, it's the No Backup Plans Gauntlets. The roll is OK. The item is shit. For the Hunter, it's Radiant Dance Machines. Low roll, OK item. For the Warlock, it's Starfire protocol. Great roll on a pretty crappy item. The engram this week is for helmets. If you want something new, this is your only shot. There are 3 new exotic helmets, and all of them are pretty damn cool. Good luck! The weapon this week is The Last Word hand cannon. As if this gun wasn't already overused in Crucible, let's sell it right before Trials Of Osiris. Yeah, that makes sense. As you can see, upgrades are gone! Now you can do that shit yourself. Want a better roll? Buy it or hope for a drop. Also, we see the introduction of the coins for motes exchange. Xur will give you 1 mote of light for 2 coins. The speaker is offering 1 mote for 2 shards, but this is another option. And that's that. Well, I did gamble and buy a couple of helmet engrams. Ended up with an Apothoesis Veil, and this: http://oi58.tinypic.com/2ntzsm1.jpg It also gives you health from picking up orbs. Neato. I think it's kind of a low roll, but not terrible. |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
What else are Motes of light good for? Should I take a chance on an engram? I only have one character and the way destiny works I am sure it would turn into a non hunter class item.
Edit: I took a chance and at least it turned into a hunter helmet. It's the arachnid which I guess isn't too special but is better than the 15 light rust burner I had on! |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
Ended up buying like 11 engrams. Got a bunch of dups, but did get, Ram, Saint 14, 3rd Man, and Eternal Warrior. The roll on Saint 14 is pretty shit, but its very helpful in PoE

Re: Bungie - Destiny
OK, I kept going.
And on my last two engrams: http://oi57.tinypic.com/35mmpf5.jpg http://oi62.tinypic.com/osbk2x.jpg Also received: Apothoesis Veil (3 times) Glasshouse Inmost Light Knucklehead Radar Mask Of Third Man Achlyophage Symbiote They all became shards as their rolls were worse than the ones I already have. |

So anytime you've put 4 shots into a yellow bar enemy only to see it still alive, this perk is for you. |

Xur needs to be fired!

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Finally did a weekly heroic strike. Took over 2 hours. I got all of 3 strange coins... :(
I don't think that was worth my time. |

I don't think that was worth my time. I am about 30 vanguard marks away from level 32 so I'll get it Tuesday when the vanguard marks reset for the week. Since you can get to 32 without Xur and strange coins, I didn't bother going for strange coins. They seem to be plentiful once you get to 32 and can start doing nightfalls, harder weeklies, etc. |

I don't think that was worth my time. Weekly Heroic Strike needs to be fired along with Xur...both are half-assed most the time. |

Ouch. I usually do the daily to get the 4 or 5 vanguard marks. Have you tried the "public event" farming yet with the timer above?

Re: Bungie - Destiny
So far, I'm fairly pleased with the update. Not sure if it's worth $20, but so far, it's a huge step up from DB.

I did use that public event phone app and trying farming them for a few hours - first off, it's not very accurate, and while it did hook me up with some PEs, in most of them, I was the only one there for it, and thing I'm supposed to kill gets away before I could kill it, so I'd only get a "participation" thing. Then a few other times, I'd get kicked out with the "baboon" code. I seriously only got about 25% success rate on them, and even with those, I got jack squat for my troubles. I really don't see how people are leveling up with public events. It's like I'm playing a different game than every one else.
And yeah, those "eliminate the target" ones are damn near impossible to do solo because of their massive and instant shields. A lot of times, if I'm the only one in the area, I'll just say "welp" and move on to the next PE. And don't hesitate to pop to orbit and bounce from planet to planet based on the schedule for the sake of efficiency. The ones I gravitate toward are: Moon: Archer's Line and Anchor of Light, because they are both very reliable to show up, are usually Warsats or Extraction Crews and the only eliminate target that shows up doesn't have a shield. If the timing is right, I'll pop into the Hellmouth one as well, but it's less reliable and can be a pain. Earth: Divide, Mothyards and Forgotten Shore. Divide is very reliable and is always a Walker. Mothyards is almost as reliable, and it's a high traffic area, so there are usually people passing through. Forgotten Shore seems pretty reliable and it seems like it's often chronologically close to Mothyards, so it's usually worth hitting. Skywatch is very reliable, but it's a bit too geographically separated for my taste. Steppes are not reliable. Venus: They show up less often here, but I could see Ember Caves and Citadel growing on me since they are both Wolf locations as well. |

The public event app was pretty accurate (most things happened at the -5 minute time) until the 1.2 update right before HoW. I think that goofed the public event timing. As I understand it, if you are using the app, when you see the public event you can select the circle with three bars to the right of the event on your phone to "report it". If enough people report the times, the timers get more accurate. I've never seen an event happen at 0 minutes on the timer..its almost always -4 or -5 minutes so hang around until then if you can. |
