Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?
The joke being it'd look exactly the same on the 360 and 720.
And not because of lack of power. Both would look superior to the PS3 version which is a port of the 360 version and inherently looks a little worse thanks to sloppy programming.

Over $400 price tag? http://gizmodo.com/5982326/rumor-the...-cost-over-400

You know, it's possible if the controller has a touchscreen. I'm assuming it would have cost $400 but the controller drives up the price.

It'll probably be $450 before tax. Might be worth it if it has full backwards compatibility with at least the PS3. I have two launch PS3s so I could sell one and keep the other for PS2/PS1 games.

Only $400 would be amazing.
Considering everything people use consoles for these days, and the fact people seem to throw $499 away on tablets without thinking twice, I don't think $450 is unreasonable. Plus the PS3 was $499 for 20gb and no wifi when it launched.

I wouldn't hold my breath on backwards compatibility with the PS3. The PS4 will have a very different architecture than the PS3. If anything, we are likely to see "super HD" remakes of PS3 games.

I hope its actually much more than $400 because considering the rumored specs you're basically getting a high-end gaming PC. Plus, it will increase my chances of getting one on day one

Report: PS4 to push 'new playing options' over high-powered hardware
According to a Nikkei report sourced to an unnamed Sony Computer Entertainment employee, the PlayStation 4 will have "new playing options" as its primary selling point, rather than its hardware specs. It sounds very Nintendo-like on a broad scale, but somewhat different in execution, as those new playing options will be based on connections to other devices, including smartphones.
The PS4 will be presented as a "nerve center" for home entertainment, with improved ability to connect to mobile devices – including Xperia smartphones, Nikkei notes, but presumably popular phones as well.
We expect to learn more about the mystery device on February 20, when Sony will hold an event that will almost certainly reveal the console.
VGLeaks, a site admittedly less prestigious than Nikkei, has a possible device for the PS4 to connect to. The site says that the PS4 will have a "Dual Camera" peripheral with two 720p cameras and four microphones, for hand- and head-tracking for games, and video chat. VGLeaks says it's "almost sure" to be standard equipment with the new console.

Sony if the worst at supporting their peripheral devices. I'd rather pay $500 for a badass standard console than $400 for a rebranded PS3 with tablet controllers and cameras.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?
Agreed.

But maybe Sony took a bit of a bath with that approach at the launch of the PS3, especially next to the dirt-cheap Wii that was almost released simultaneously. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the thinking this time around. Perhaps their last-gen selling strategy of "You'll want to work extra hours to save up and afford one of these" didn't resonate in the West like they thought it would.

Just because a hundred or so elitists could afford a PS4 doesn't mean it would be the best thing for the console and its launch. I also don't like hearing the speculative news about it being a center of entertainment rather than it just focusing on being a kick ass next-gen console.

I thought it was supposedly going to be so much more powerful than the new Xbox, and now they are saying the power of the console isn't really going to be it's strong point?

It's sort of true on the PS3 - the 360 just did it a little better.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all moving that direction. People watch movies and tv shows via netflix, hulu and blu far more than they play games on the current generation hardware. The useage for the non-game services dwarfs game playing.

Yet another reason why I think that the Steam Box will easily outpace all the other next-gen consoles.

Nope. Installed base for the 360 and PS3 is too large worldwide. I could see it being anounced for all consoles but Rockstar needs the maximum amount of sales to pay for this title and their next gen titles. CoD and GTAV will be the last major nonexclusive AAA titles out on current gen before developers go full production on next gen software.
