I never even look down at my controller, so the thought of lights on the controller being an issue have never even crossed my mind.

Nope. Same goes for the disdain for the monochrome 360 controller. Besides children and non-gaming wives who the hell looks down at the button colors?

Same here. Though I will admit that the low battery swirl gets on my nerves since it starts waaaaaayyyyy before you actually need to replace the batteries.

LIke I said, I didn't read anything but saw use of gifs which indicate some potential nastiness. Since a new gen is forthcoming, we ll just need to be grateful we have videogames and that the NRA hasn't shot up every develop in the country.

I'm just grateful English will soon be a second language in this country.

One thing I can't figure out concerning XBox controllers is why people like asymmetrical sticks? I love that the PS3 has them next to each other. How is it a negative?

There's nothing natural about holding your thumbs out at a 90° angle. It's just more ergonomic.
As for them being offset, the right analog is secondary to the buttons. So the left analog and 4 face buttons are right where your thumbs naturally want to lay.

When I think about how awkward and painful the Coleco and Intellivision controllers became after a few hours of gameplay, I have to laugh at the complaints about the PS3 controller being such a burden. I remember turning my hands into grotesque claws after playing VENTURE for any period of time.

Going back to the actual console; what's the latest news, pic and info? And what site is good, offical or non-offical to keep up with the latest?

Ps4 is looking like a beast.
You can argue back and forth on which system is more powerful this generation. Uncharted and Killzone are amazing looking, but late this generation games like Halo 4 are close....you can even argue that at times a game like RAGE/Crysis 2 is more impressive than Uncharted because of the scale...still the 360 is a LOT easier to program for and early on this generation games looked better on the 360 when they were released on both. This has since balanced out with a few hiccups like Skyrim, but I think the early damage was done.
This will not be the case next generation. Early word from the development kits is that sony is doing EVERYTHING they can to make programing for the ps4 easy. If they balance out programing difficulty, but also have twice the speed on their RAM and twice the gpu (with almost identical cpu's)...the ps4 is going to smoke the next xbox in graphics.
On top of that you get free online play, with the OPTION of adding plus. They will probably have cross game chat. The next xbox seems to be focused on the casual market, with a big push on the kinect/social media integration/netflix ect... The xbox has had a lot of success late this generation getting that casual gamer, and they think they can continue that next generation. The problem is the first few years of a system is sold to hardcore gamers not casual. They seem to be putting the cart before the horse here.

That's a lot of speculation, but the bottom line is that people won't want to give up their achievement points...that's what will sell the Xbox 720 regardless of specs.

Can't argue that point. Perhaps my hands are permanently disfigured so the PS3 controller doesn't really bother me even though I agree the 360 controller is more ergonomically sound.

Is that confirmed? I can't imagine Sony sticks with free when MS boasts about how much money rolls in from Live. They had to do free just to compete this gen. With a clean slate and solid online structure for next gen, that is no longer the case.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was saying. After 30 years of awkward controllers I'm just used to it. I remember getting blisters on my thumbs playing Intellivision and NES, but after 10 years with the Dual Shock I've had no problems. It certainly isn't so horrendous that it would keep me from buying a PS3... or PS4 if they stay with the design.

True... as ridiculous as that would be for buying one system over another. I'm in for both systems at this point.

I'm probably the last to get into the "MS vs Sony" debate. I hope both actually do good and make a solid Nex gen console because it'll benifit the gaming industry and consumers as a whole.
But...I do believe all the specs, power, pixels, eye candy and functions aside it'll come down to games themselves along with online play. Just like now, both Sony and MS have their signiture games along with cross platform games. the nex gens will have it slso. And just like when the PS3 and 360 hit people will look at both, look at the games and ask their friends what are they getting.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?
Any word on supporting 4K on the PS4?
I know the PS3 was built with some forward-looking tech. Blu-ray (which was a gamble at the time) but it also had the power to do 3D and more. Even if I wasn't playing games, enough tech was built in to last me all this time and then some. Within a few years, I think 4K will start being the norm and I wonder if the PS4 will have those capabilities.

if the price is right, i may get a PS4 this time around. I have the Xbox 360 now. However, if sony prices it like they did the PS3 at launch I won't go near it.
