Everyone has to keep a hat nearby or they can't use that function!

It sounds like Sony used the PS Vita as a testing ground for a lot of new tech for the PS4
And actually that's alright, you'd be hard pressed to find someone complain about the functionality of a Vita, it's the lack of games that's a shame.

Interesting article I stumbled across...could be relevant later:
Valve: OpenGL is faster than DirectX — even on Windows
If Sony and Valve end up as co-supporters of OpenGL with drivers automatically pushed on Steam, some interesting stuff could go down in the development world.

Nice to see that the "competition" between OpenGL and DirectX is still strong after all these years.

Interesting. Somewhere I got the idea that Xbone used some version of Direct X and PS4 used a version of OpenGL. If that's incorrect, apologies.
Pretty sure I've seen it on this forum.

They use completely custom API's that are much closer to the metal than either OpenGL or DirectX. It's needed in order to be as efficient as possible squeeze every bit of power out of the GPU's. Of course the downside is they can be a bit trickier to program for, but that's why Middleware companies are in business.

While it has less must-own games than the DS, at this point the Vita has a nice little library. Certainly better than the Wii U.

Wherever you saw it, it's incorrect. Pretty sure we've already been done this road.

When you see announcements like: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/.../directx-11-2/ it just makes things confusing.

Somebody needs to do a formal explanation of this.

Weekend Confirmed had some controller talk this week. Around the 1:05 mark.
G= Garnett Lee | J = Jeff Canatta
A= Andrew Yoon | O= Ozzy Mejia
Xbox:
PS4:
Kinect:
Reading this in text is one thing but it sounded like they were far more excited about the PS4 controller and loved it, while the x1 could use some tweaks. And Kinect still sounds like a joke.
G= Garnett Lee | J = Jeff Canatta
A= Andrew Yoon | O= Ozzy Mejia
Xbox:
- A= likes x1 controller, likes the rumble triggers
- J= x1 controller is a step back from the 360 pad but rumble triggers are cool
- A & J = preferred 360 pad to PS3
- J = hates the bumper buttons, uncomfortable to reach now, feel misplaced
- G= still prefers the offset analogs for shooters
PS4:
- A & J= Loves PS4 controller, prefers it to x1
- J= PS4 controller is awesome
- A= loves the sticks
- J= loves the triggers
- G= loves the ergonomics
- J= thinks the PS4 controller has negated the offset analog issues with all the improvements
- All= loved the look, even the light bar, controller looks hi-tech
- A= not sold on the touchpad, skeptical but likes it as a big button
Kinect:
- A = Kinect voice commands were erratic and even wanted to shut off the system, commands kept popping up on screen
- A = Kinect 2.0 did not seem any better than Kinect 1. Left a sour taste.
- O= Kinect game he demo'd had him worried more about Kinect than the game's quality
- O= Kinect 2.0 seems like it's going to be more of the same promises about revolutionizing gaming but end up being the same crap we got with Kinect 1.0

I, also, am skeptical of the touchpad. I hope there won't be a lot of games forcing me to shift my grip.

There was nothing wrong with the DS3. Some people that played both consoles liked the Xbox 360 controller better and wished the DS3 was more like it. That's it.
I wasn't one of them.

The stubby little grips. The way they taper. My fingers tend to slide right off.
The stick placement is awkward. Moving them down and out is very close to full extension for my thumbs. Since my left thumb is almost always on the stick, it is uncomfortable.
If your new chair kills your back, then there's something wrong with it. Doesn't matter if it's the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in.
