There are companies out there, legal ones, profitable ones, that literally sell you death in a stick. They say they don't, but they do, and millions gleefully hand them money. The product has no actual benefit.

A video game console made by a bunch of hardworking programmers and designers gets fucked all to hell by clueless executives and "too many cooks in the kitchen", they attempt to fix things, but I'm supposed to never forget and say fuck you MS for the rest of my life? Nope, sorry. There are bigger fights to fight than taking a stand over a video game console.

They fucked up, customers told them so, they fixed it. I'm not going to boycott something I enjoy and ridicule it until the end of time just so I can hang with the cool kids.

Because that makes sense. Clearly the best way to make a profit is to play chicken with your audience.

I agree, MS tried something, customers responded, MS changed course. That's the way the free market should work. I would agree with chess' assessment if MS hadn't made the changes and were going forward with the discostu model.

The reasons I'm not buying a One at launch are: $100 more, and I don't see any compelling launch exclusives. Granted, the PS4 launch exclusives don't look like must-haves either, but I only need one console to play the multi-console titles. I'm sure I'll get a One at some point.

I wouldn't say defending. I pointed out that what they wanted to do didn't affect me in a negative way, so personally I saw no need to slash my wrists over it via Internet forums.

They didn't affect me too much either, but I was concerned with the implications those features had with how much control MS wanted to have over your gaming experience, and where it could lead in the future. So I'm glad consumers voiced their opinions.

And I don't really harbor a grudge over it either.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't 100% supportive of what they were wanting to do, especially without details. At the time my plan was going to be to use the Xbox One for first party exclusives only and I'd play everything else on the PS4.

I know we are joking about their feature that sounds like it is simply pausing the game... but I think it is something other than that.

If I can bounce out of a game to something else (even shutting down my console) and it suspends my game so I can immediately pick up in the exact same spot then that is a big deal to me. It would effectively eliminate checkpoints and shitty save systems and create a system level save anywhere.

As someone who often doesn't put in certain games because I know I won't have a chance to make it to a save point that is a huge deal.

Yes, if it is indeed a full pause feature even after you turn off the system or play a different game, then that is awesome.

Both consoles do exactly that.

Sony's press release from February 20:

"PS4 radically reduces the lag time between players and their content. PS4 features “suspend mode” which keeps the system in a low power state while preserving the game session. The time it takes today to boot a console and load a saved game will be a thing of the past. With PS4, gamers just hit the power button again and are promptly back playing the game at the exact point where they left off. Additionally, users can boot a variety of applications including a web browser when playing a game on PS4."

Then that is hot and a fantastic win for this generation imo.

Yes, it is. There is nothing like being rushed out the door while an hour or so of gameplay hangs in the balance.

Sadly, on the PS4 you have to push the PS button instead of clapping and grabbing, which is so current gen.

I'm not sure it will allow you to play a different game though, just pause the current gaming side of the system.

Pretty sure I read the PS4, at least, creates a save state kinda like iOS. So you can jump back to your last point in any game not just one. Not sure how the X1 will handle it.

BTW, suspend mode also works with remote play, so if you have a Vita, you can pick up instantly as well.
