re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I had a different write up originally and edited it down, but I had a small write-up on it getting the actual Call of Duty 2, not a weird console-only spin off like CoD2: Big Red One on the PS2 and Xbox.
And yeah, the first year was fine, spectacular compared to the Wii U thus far. |

Yes they did, but nowhere near as bad. They also had the benefit of having the best console versions of games (Call of Duty 2 on the 360, for instance), not the worst (The Wii U rushed ports.)
Plus they both had a giant title early on (Elder Scrolls: Oblivion). Hopefully Nintendo can pull it off, but you can't deny they've done horribly thus far. I'm not too worried about the Wii U. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
N64 has to be the worst launch ever. Super Mario 64 & PilotWings... that was it for months.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Super Mario 64 blew everybody away at the time though (apparently, I thought it was repetitive as hell) and could easily be defined as a system seller, something the Wii U didn't have.
US Launch Titles: NES -> Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Excitebike, etc; 61.91m NES consoles sold worldwide SNES -> Super Mario World was a huge leap forward from the NES Marios, 49.1m SNES consoles sold worldwide N64 -> Super Mario 64 was a "revolutionary" leap forward for the Mario Franchise, 32.9m N64 consoles sold worldwide Gamecube -> Luigi's Mansion, the system never fully recovered selling a weak 21.7m Gamecube consoles sold worldwide Wii -> Wii Sports, nothing like it, 99.85m Wii consoles sold worldwide Wii U -> New Super Mario Bros U, which was absolutely nothing new, 3.10m Wii U consoles sold so far worldwide I have no real correlation between launch titles and units sold, but it was fun to try. To note the best selling Nintendo device is the Nintendo DS with 154.6m units sold, the Game Boy is second with 118.7m units sold. Current reigning game console is still the Playstation 2 with 157.68m units sold - roughly the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined. The Virtual Boy sold 770,000 units. |

I bet they have white and black deluxes only for $300.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Which stores are participating?
4 hours doesn't seem very long with 4 unique demos on them for everyone to try. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Thanks. Might have to check that out on Wed.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Didn't realize the deluxe kit was still at $350. We'd been thinking about upgrading our Wii, but we'll definitely wait a little longer.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Tigerdirect had a sale on the wii u deluxe for ~$300 recently.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I spent my evening last night doing a system transfer from the Wii to Wii U. It was a big hassle, because my Wii wasn't even hooked up and I didn't remember where my second sensor bar was.
Once I finally finished, I went to upgrade all of my virtual console purchases. Turns out that of all the ones I had, only two were eligible for upgrade: Super Mario World and Super Metroid. And I already bought Super Metroid for $0.30. So I did all that work just to upgrade Super Mario World. Oh well. |

Are the other games not eligible because the games haven't been released on the Wii U marketplace yet?

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Yeah, so it was still worthwhile to do the transfer. At this point the only thing I use my Wii for is Gamecube games.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
If I buy games on the Wii virtual console channel on the wii u, are they still eligible for cheap upgrades? I have 9,000 some wii points and was wondering if I need to spend them before I transfer.

Ok, thanks!

Man, whatever happened with the golf tech demo idea? I would have thought EA would have been all over that with Tiger Woods.

Shit.
Closest BB with the disc is 2 hours away. The only SoCal one is Bakersfield. Nothing else? Wow. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
So after watching the direct (finally), I'm sticking to the Wii U and 3DS only. Between Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong and Pikmin I'm set!
|
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
New Zelda and Donkey Kong or remakes?
|
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Ok, thanks again!
|
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Did they offer a release date for Pikmin?
