Eternal Darkness 2 without Silicon Knights and Dennis Dyack  |

Based on everything I've read, Dennis Dyack is a problem and not a solution.

Silicon Knights last 2 releases weren't that great so that might not be a bad thing.
This sounds eerily similar to Crackdown, where the original devs wanted to do a sequel but it was handed down to a different team. That turned out swimmingly of course. |

EA DICE technical director Johan Andersson revealed that the developer's Frostbite 3 engine, which powers Battlefield 4 and the next entries in the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises, does not run on Nintendo's Wii U. Responding to fan questions on Twitter, Andersson explained that DICE's Wii U experiments with Frostbite 2 had "not too promising" results, leading to the company abandoning efforts to get Frostbite 3 up and running on Nintendo's latest console. During the Game Developers Conference in March, Epic Games' Mark Rein noted that Unreal Engine 4 does not currently run on the Wii U. Rein later clarified, explaining that licensed developers could potentially port Unreal Engine 4-powered games to the Wii U, at their discretion. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Wow. Doesn't sound too promising for WiiU 12-18 months from now.
Good look Nintendo. My WiiU has been a Mario Chase player since Christmas. Nobody in my house has touched anything else. And that isn't played for more than 30 minutes at a time. They have totally screwed the pooch on this. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Nintendo would do well to seriously consider their "Wii"/3DS ecosystem. Make VC perfect, portable, online, accessible, and available. Then they need to double down on the Wii U's successor and get it out by 2015 and have every.single.purchase migrate seamlessly and follow the user from now on.

I'm expecting the next couple of Nintendo directs leading up to E3 to drop some bombs, so I'm not worried yet. |

Of course, neither the PS4 or 360 have been seen or prices announced, but they will be HUUUUUUUUGE! I'm very much looking forward to sales of both being just as bad as the Wii U and watching everyone finding ways to still claim they did good. Of course, by that time the Wii U will hit with Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart etc. while everyone else is enjoying ports (like most console launches). So many people blind to the idea that people are moving on from console gaming to Tablets and other mediums. Wii U didn't "sell well" for a reason. But oh no, not EA. Sport titles have always sold poorly on Nintendo hardware (didn't they abandon the GameCube at some point?). Not having EA may seem like a bad thing, but I don't play their games. I'm sure it will affect some peoples decisions, but meh. I knew what I was getting into when I bought a Wii U and if it has similar titles like the GameCube, I'll be just fine. I don't need to play generic FPS shooter 3000. |

Agreed, Nintendo made the right move. I just don't necessarily think EA be petty enough to drop everything simply because Nintendo wouldn't agree to something that EA isn't exactly getting elsewhere either.

This was reported last August. http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/commen...roundbreaking/ This "sticking to their guns" will put their console in the crapper. Whether people like EA or not -- a console is going to have a hell of a struggle to survive without their games. Madden especially. This is what put the Dreamcast in the coffin. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Not really. Sports games, while selling well, sell to a certain audience. A good chunk buy just those games every year and dabble in very few other genres. While not having Madden will hurt Nintendo a bit, Sony not have Mario will hurt them more etc.
Sports games have never been a big seller for Nintendo unless Mario is in the mix. |

That's a lot of million+ selling franchises to just praise Nintendo for pushing aside.

Funny, since most label me as a MS fanboy (even though the 360 is the only MS product in my house).
Michael, how's your Wii U? |

This may come as a surprise but they put out more than just Madden & Fifa. Crysis, Mass Effect, Need For Speed, Burnout, Battlefield, Dead Space, Dragon Age, Portal, Orange Box, Rock Band, Left 4 Dead, etc. That's a lot of million+ selling franchises to just praise. Of course, some of those you mentioned are console exclusive anyway or no longer running (Rock Band). |

Without EA, Nintendo doesn't get any Star Wars games. No more hoping for a new rogue squadron game on a nintendo console. |

#1 console is one stat. Attach rate is another stat. Which one do you thing 3rd parties care more about?

That's why I think its weird that EA would bail on everything Nintendo just because they turned down integrating it into their own online system, since it's only on PC right now, nobody seems to like it, and it's not like the competitors are using it.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Origin has a very long way to go before it's even close to Steam.
|
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
So despite the fact that the Wii U isn't quite a household console yet, I'm strongly leaning towards getting one since Gamestop did the "trade in your Wii for $50 credit towards a Wii U". I have $250 of store credit and my Wii is literally a paperweight. I cannot remember the last time it was turned on.
So that said, what other amenities do I need for this thing? Will my old Wii controllers work or do I need to stock up on all new ones? Any other accessories that are must have? |
