Yes, you can still play your old VC games in 480p from inside the Wii menu.

Mine will get dusted off when Rayman comes out. |

So... what else do we get? |

I thought VC games ported to the WiiU during a transfer? Is this talking about a further upgrade? If so, what are we buying for that extra cost? It sure as fuck better not be just the ability to play them on the gamepad because that should be native functionality of the platform... you know, just like online remote multiplayer should have been because NEW emulators have been doing that for over a decade...

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I had been regretting purchasing a WiiU.
But now, after WW HD... http://splodinator.com/wp-content/up...-My-Rupees.jpg Not to mention a Yoshi game by the Kirby's Epic Yarn team? TAKE ALL MY RUPEES, NINTENDO! |

Wow, fuck right off Nintendo.
You don't even have to repurchase all of them. Just the ones you want to play. Gees. A fucking dollar. |

Next: Please re-release Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine. I really loved Nintendo's GameCube. I'd take Double-Dash over Mario Kart U anyday. |

I think I'd faint. |

Really? $1 and $1.50 for new features and GamePad. If you can't afford that, how did you buy a Wii U?

But for people who bought a lot of VC titles and don't want to bother with the 5 minute "Load up Wii menu" wait times, that's horseshit, I'm sorry. It's not a matter of being able to afford it. It's a matter of "How many times are you going to give Malibu Stacy a new hat?" You want to get my money a new way? Subscription service. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
If they come out with Rogue Squadron or anything great from the SW universe, I'm buying a Wii U for my son pronto.

Yes, it's one dollar. But for people who bought a lot of VC titles and don't want to bother with the 5 minute "Load up Wii menu" wait times, that's horseshit, I'm sorry. I'd rather buy one that is going to work perfectly on my Wii U and on the GamePad. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
$1-$1.50 per title is a shitty thing. I also have 3-4 pages of VC titles on my Wii, not all of them are NES or SNES, but easily half.
I'd be happy paying a one-time upgrade fee of $10 for my entire library. But per title is a cash grab. Save state is not an upgrade, it was already on the Wii. Anyway, if and when I ever buy a WiiU, I'll migrate all my VC titles. Then I'll look at the benefits of paying the additional fee for the games I really want to play frequently. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I guess to me it would be like paying for upgrades from an iPhone 4 app to an iPhone 5 app. New features, better resolution yes... but I shouldn't have to give you another fee.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Several apps have a higher-priced "HD" version for tablets.

Chuck, I guess we should just be happy are older purchases are honored at all. They didn't have to do that and I totally didn't expect it, even from the beginning of the Wii knowing there was no unified online Nintendo ID.

30 cents each for F-Zero, Punch-Out, and Super Metroid, with off TV GamePad support?
Very nice. |

This plus either make a new WaveRace, or HD-ify Blue Storm, and a Metroid Prime HD trilogy with GamePad, Wiimote, or Pro controller support.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I love that we're in this new console gen, and the best games (Mario U, Rayman, Yoshi) are 2D games or old games re-done in HD (ZeldaWW).
|
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I don't mind HD-ified remakes to pad out the schedule, as long as they don't interfere with new games and true sequels.

Thanks! I also just now figured out that the cord for the sensor bar is just for power...
That being said, I paid $15 for it. $45 is ridiculous. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
With the exception of that weird Twister style game in that one video above I'm pretty impressed with everything I saw. Wind Waker was the last Zelda game I really gave a shit about so I'm thrilled about that news.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
So I found some old Wii Points cards... do I have to use those ASAP in the Wii store because they're not honored in the new store, or are they compatible?

I would guess they only work in the old store since our old points don't transfer to the new store. I hope Microsoft and Sony allow us to carry our balance over to their new consoles. |
re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I really should fire up my Wii then and soak up whatever points I still have on there if a) the points don't transfer or 2) the store is shutting down.
Especially now that today's Nintendo Direct made my pants a little tight for a Wii U. I almost went to go buy one, but that's silly. It's just Balloon Fight for 30 cents right now. |
