Wow, not looking good for Nintendo. Of course, how would you go into an event like that when Sony & Microsoft are talking about next gen systems and all of these games coming out and Nintendo can talk about low system sales, ports and remakes of old games, and more delays. Hopefully they go the way of Sega soon and get out of the console business and start making some next gen games for Sony & Microsoft.

Not going to happen. Remember, Wii = #1 last generation. DS = #1 last generation. 3DS = #1 this generation. Why would they "go the way of Sega"? Sony is the one who has a handheld no one knows exists, a console in last place, and has many other parts of it's business in ruins (they just posted a $115 million dollar loss) . People who make comments like that about Nintendo really show their fanboy card towards Sony or MS.

Sega had multiple issues. Several failed consoles/handhelds/add-ons and aside from Sonic, no "big" mascots. Nintendo has far too many to ever go away. They could simply ignore ports altogether and focus on Mario, Link, Kirby, Pokemon etc. and people would still buy their whatevers. Sony and Microsoft have few mascots - none as big as Mario or Pokemon.

Nintendo could dump console gaming altogether and still be fine.

E3 has always been a big fanboy jerkoff. They tried curbing it a few years back but it didn't work - and it never recovered. Going from the "last" E3 to the revamped one years later was pretty disturbing. I don't even bother going anymore. I sit at home, read the news (which hits faster), and that's it. Nowdays they can offer demos to people at home right away. The Nintendo Directs are releasing more info then an E3 presser ever has. Look at Sony's recent 3 hour one to show off a freakin' controller. Look at Nintendo's 45 minute one which announced several brand new games and cost them probably $49 to make  Sony spent millions and it was a laughing stock all over the internet. The reaction to Nintendo's were "OMG A NEW ZELDA!!!!!"

So yeah, Nintendo is so going the way of Sega. They had a better launch compared to the 360/PS3 and won't have to battle it out in Q3/Q4 for the ever shrinking consumer dollar, all while throwing brand new games out there like Mario Kart, Zelda, Pokemon etc. Remember - it's no longer just consoles that play games. So do phones and tablets. Many kids are perfectly happy getting an iPad instead of a console this year.

Things are looking bad.

How so?

I'm seeing Mario Kart, Zelda Wind Waker, Mario U, Game and Wario, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta all planned for 2013... yet so far we have no news regarding the "big" titles for the PS4 or 720 unless you count Infamous (which has never been a big seller - I remember getting the huge collectors set for half price a few weeks after release). That's just announced SO FAR.

I really starting to think that, aside from passing on a used copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for $10.00 back in 1999, purchasing the WiiU is the largest regret of my gaming life. I'm also starting to jump into the camp that says they should just dump the console and start over.

Fun fact, looking at the numbers Infamous sold more then Pikmin and Rayman.

You just highlighted their biggest hurdle -- all first party titles. Wind Waker is one of the lesser popular zeldas, Game and Wario has played itself out, Pikmin has never been huge, Bayonetta is a niche title.

More specifically, Zelda: Wind Waker, Game and Wario, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta will sell very few consoles (at least in the US.). Mario Kart will be a system seller, I don't know what Mario U is. The others are titles people buy when they already own the console.

But yeah, Pikmin sold around 1.63m worldwide, Pikmin 2 sold 1.20m worldwide.

Infamous sold about 2.6m copies worldwide, Infamous 2 sold about 1.6m.

None of these are system sellers, Nintendo needs the equivalent of a Wii Sports Bowling to get this thing going.

Pikmin has only been available on the GameCube which was Nintendo's lowest selling console. I'm assuming your not talking about the Wii ports. IRRC, the first Pikmin sold over a million copies. Not sure where to get accurate sales figured though

"Rayman" what? There are many Raymans. I didn't mention it though (stuck to Wii U exclusive titles).

WW spawned two sequels.... Ocarina only spawned one :)

What was the second sequel? I know about Phantom Hourglass.

Nevermind, I guess Spirit Tracks was a sequel to Phantom Hourglass.

Weren't both WW sequels on the handhelds? Tough to compare to GC's Majora's Mask.

Majora's Mask was N64.

Oh, right. Duh. Still console vs. handheld. And also MM was well before WW, let alone its sequels.

Regardless - It's an uphill battle for Nintendo, I just know they completely flubbed six months of their one year advantage.

The frustrating thing is that we all want to love Nintendo so much!

Agreed. I wish I could have one console that could play Mario/Zelda + all the other games I want. I'm still wary on getting consistent enough PC ports for the other major titles out there to rule out the PS4/720. With it already mentioned that Unreal Engine 4 won't support the Wii U, that's a large chunk of top games that won't be ported to the U.

I feel like I'm one of the last gamers that feels positive about the future for Nintendo. I care way more about the stuff announced for the 3DS and Wii U than I do about the upcoming next gen consoles, that's for sure. Just like I said about the 3DS, once the Wii U has been out for a year or so people will be backing off of the negatives and will begin to embrace what Nintendo will at that time have out on the market and announced for the future. I have no doubt in my mind the same thing will happen.

Because I think they make some quality first party games that would benefit on other systems since people seem to still be buying those.

So what your trying to say is they have no new IPs and plenty of games that can be pushed to 2014.

Sony and MS have very few new IPs either. You think they are going to launch a bunch at the launch of their next console? Nintendo has solid IPs that sell games. Much like a COD or Madden.

Right there with you. It seems like we've been hearing doom and gloom regarding Nintendo with basically every hardware release going back to the N64 (I don't remember the scuttlebutt regarding the GBA, so that might have been the exception). Nintendo has work to do, certainly, but after the better part of 20 years of inaccurately divining Nintendo's demise, you'd think some of the pundits might be more willing to accept the big N knows a little bit about the business they're in.

I updated a few hours ago, and it said, I think, 1h 15m for the estimated time but it actually was closer to 30m.
