Saints Row: The Third

Re: Saints Row: The Third
During the first couple hours playing last night I was initially disappointed. Seems like there are less clothing customization and the stuff they have is mostly recycled from the last game. Also, the city does not feel very big. Stillwater had a college area, a wealthy area, the projects, etc. This one seems like it has suburbs and then industry and not much in between.
However, after saying that... this game is insanely addictive. I ended up staying up past 3 AM. It's ridiculously fun. The missions are so much fun to do and are quite challenging too. One of the earlier missions has you skydiving down to a tower while Kanye's "Power" is playing. Probably the closest I've come to truly feeling like I'm playing a scene from a movie. So much fun.
And probably my favorite moment was when my character and Pierce were singing along to "What I Got" by Sublime.
P.S. Amazon sent me a code for Genki. They're awesome.

Initially disappointed? Do you realize you jumped out of a plane, the plane then rammed you, you kicked the cockpit window out, fell through the body of the plane and out the other end AGAIN? All while shooting dudes and catching someone in the midst of freefall TWICE?

It got a bit better as expected, but still feels like a letdown from the second game.
I do like the Genki S.E.R.C events, though. Feels alot like that really violent Wii game that came out a couple years ago. I forget the name of it.

I think the hype for SR3 is what might be letting some of you down. SR1 came out of nowhere and was pretty good... SR2 was very good but stepped on as a GTA clone and didn't receive a ton of accolades or press. SR3 put the full court press on thru it's advertising and web videos -- it'll never be a '10' game due to it's epic adventure or re-creating all the rules gameplay, but it will always be mindelss Michael Bay movie-like fun.

I really want to add more thoughts on the game but I just haven't played enough yet to experience everything you can do in the open world - this is something THQ\Volition did lie about.....not everything is open right from the start.

This is a valid complaint. At E3 they basically said "Yeah, you'll have this harrier jet the second you start the game"

At long last, THQ and our friends at PlayStation are proud to unveil additional content for Saints Row: The Third owners on PS3. For all players that purchase Saints Row: The Third on PlayStation 3 and redeem their online pass codes within the next 90 days, they will receive a digital copy of Saints Row 2 (a $19.99 value)… absolutely free!
Go back to a simpler time, when the Saints were vying for control of Stilwater, before they were global icons, a household name, and a criminal empire. Before Professor Genki and the Syndicate, there were the Westside Rollers and the Brotherhood. Enjoy classic Saints Row activities like Septic Avenger, where you spray new homes with sewage in order to devalue property. And of course, enjoy a number of DLC packs brought to you by Volition’s favorite Saints Row 2 producer, Tera Patrick.
Saints Row 2 will be available for free starting early next week for all players who redeem their online pass in each new copy of Saints Row: The Third. The offer expires at midnight on February 13, 2012, so be sure to redeem your online pass before then. And for those of you who have already done so, keep an eye out early next week for the content. This offer applies to the United States, Canada, and Mexico only.
We hope you are as excited about this offer as we are!

Yeah, I distinctly remember hearing about that. I think it's better this way.

I totally didn't realize Angel was voiced by Hulk Hogan. He needs to say "brother" more... and didn't realize Sasha Grey plays as Viola.
I think the first male voice sounds like Archer.

I'm new to the Saints franchise, but all I've read and seen about this game makes me think I've been missing out. Will purchase.

ok..so I put on whored mode last night after deciding to get off for the night...the idea was just to play to see what it is like...I could not stop playing...wtf??!!
I can not even do it justice in words, you just have to play about 7 rounds to see what I am talking about...

Still haven't played long enough to give a full mini-review but did play long enough last night to say the following:
- There is an actual option to change the driving camera from "instant" to "gradual" (or something similar) this has made the game much more enjoyable for me and it shows off the detail in the city a lot better as well.
- The game is getting more and more addictive - just learned last night that one of the upgrades you can buy is a pick-pocket upgrade - you can even steal cash from your own gang members as well.

I finished the game tonight. It was interesting.
I wish I hadn't watched so many videos ahead of time though cause there were a ton of spoilers.

Re: Saints Row: The Third
Ok, so for two hours straight the MISSIONS were nothing but ACTIVITIES -> that shit is completely inexcusable - I felt like I was playing SR2 the entire time...that pissed me off so much. Complete laziness.
A lot (not all) was forgiven when you reach the first STAG mission - that was crazy and well done.
It's clear that THQ\Volition does not have the funds that Take2\Rockstar have but they definitely make due with what they have - I just hope they expand a bit more with their future releases.
And yes....they definitely went a bit too over the top with this game but still.....there are many great laughs to be had. the skydiving in this game is pretty damn great as well - you really can go a high distance and just chill in the sky for a long time.
Hopefully there are no more activity missions (or maybe it's my dumb-ass doing something wrong? I doubt it though cause I saw no other options for any other missions). And I want to fight Killbane soooooo bad.
EDIT: Ummmmmm, wait - yeah maybe I am an idiot as I have only been accessing missions from my phone - I haven't looked at the map once yet for any "missions icons" haha, "move along....nothing to see here"

Re: Saints Row: The Third
Yeah, none of those voices are Archer. I even checked H. Jon Benjamin's IMDB page to confirm it. As usual, Chuck spreads lies and disinformation everywhere he goes. :headshake:

Regardless, thanks for pointing me toward Archer. I loved Home Movies and never got whatever channel Archer was on, I'm enjoying catching it on Netflix.
I got my Genki code before the game even shipped. Already spent the 10 bonus. Driving in the first one was sort of a pain, I think the on-road arrows should help a lot.

Re: Saints Row: The Third
Not sure but I thought it was surprisingly high because I didn't do any of the extra activities. I did do the strongholds cause those were fun.
The last mission has 2 different paths with leading to 2 different bonus missions. One of them is a lot better than the other.
Overall, I was disappointed mostly because I hyped it up too much. The game has a lot of great ideas but poor execution.
The zombie level looks great and works out solid in the storyline but it's a bit of a chore to play. The fight with Killbane is also somewhat disappointing. And probably the worst thing about the game: no way to replay missions.
I will say that I think the targeting and shooting controls are much better. I went right from MW3 to this game and it wasn't terribly jarring. Skydiving is a ton of fun too.
