Saints Row: The Third has already taken pot shots at juggernaut franchises like Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, but they aren’t going to stop there. Taking a page out of Gears of War’s book, Saints Row: The Third will be featuring a multiplayer variant called ‘Whored Mode.’

It’s essentially your typical version of Horde Mode with the player taking on waves of enemies that increase in difficulty; enemies like giant hoes, question marks, and soda can mascots. Wait, what?

As you can probably guess from the title, ‘Whored Mode’ isn’t going to actually follow along the typical pattern of a horde mode, and it isn’t going to try to tie the experience into the single player like Mass Effect 3. Instead developer Volition is going for a balls-to-the-wall mode that has the player jumping from insane situation to insane situation.

There could be one particular round that focuses on tank combat against a wave of naked people, while another round could have the player taking on a wave of ladies of the night (hence the title of the mode). Among the other enemies that players will be facing are angels, zombies, and whores on rollerblades, each with a different weapon at their disposal.

There’s no word on if weapon customization and fortifications are available, but it appears that ‘Whored Mode’ is more about the moment-to-moment than the long haul. Aside from setting itself apart using the unique enemies, this version of horde mode tests your skill by constantly changing weapons.

Players can partake of the mode with a friend or solo, but we’d recommend buddying-up since “downed” players can be helped back up.

The mode sounds pretty intriguing so far, and based on what we’ve seen of Saints Row: The Third so far, is pitch perfect. We’re just wondering how many surprises Volition and THQ have left up their sleeves?
