Re: Mass Effect 3

For anyone confused by the whole War Assets/Galactic Readiness thing and how MP and SP tie together, Bioware somewhat cleared it up in a post on their forums:
Hi everyone,

I've seen some posts where there is a bit of confusion about the ability to get the "perfect ending" by only playing single-player, because if you don't play multiplayer (or the iOS game, Infiltrator) your Galactic Readiness stays at 50%.

You do NOT have to play multiplayer to get the best single-player endings.

Here's a bit of clarification:

Your ending(s) are determined by your "Effective Military Strength" (let's call it EMS for now) bar. Focus on that bar - that is your indicator of how well you will do in the end-game.

You can maximize your EMS just by collecting War Assets in the single-player game. There is a certain threshhold of these you would need to exceed (I can't get too specific) but I can tell you there are MORE than the required amount that can be gathered in the single-player campaign.

"Galactic Readiness" is a modifier you can improve by playing multiplayer. That is to say, if you play a lot of multiplayer, you will need less War Assets from single-player to fill up your EMS bar (ie it will balance out the requirements to account for you playing in both modes). Single-player game play does not impact that bar.

EMS = success. EMS can be maximized via collecting war assets alone, even if your Galactic Readiness is 50%.
Also of note is the fact that your Galactic Readiness will decrease by 1% each day you don't play multiplayer.

So was looking up the glitch I ran into on that Turian platoon mission and it happens if you kill the harvester before you get to the end point in the level so if anyone runs into that you can restart the mission and just try not to kill the harvester too early.

Fucking lame. They should keep the multi and the single completely separate. I blame EA for shoehorning this shit in.

I wonder if they'll patch that out. I can see them doing it, but then again, I can see them not doing it.

Yeah, apparently EA decided that even though I bought the game new, only one person in the household gets to have access to multiplayer. That'll sure show all the people that buy used, won't it.

Anyway, there is a workaround, at least on 360. As long as whoever registered the online pass on their GT is logged in, the other person can sign in with their gamer tag and play multiplayer.

Call UPS. They say I have to initiate via Amazon. Call Amazon. They like to wait 2 days before doing anything because "it might show up... this happens all the time". $5 credit for my trouble.

Hit the town looking for the CE. Not only is it out of stock everywhere, but the 360 version is sold out everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Plenty of PS3 copies, but not one single 360 copy at 3 Targets, 2 Best Buys, Kmart or Toys R Us.

That really blows. Sometimes UPS takes up to 8pm to deliver my Amazon orders which drives me nuts waiting. I placed an order to deliver on Friday, and was dismayed to find a UPS note instead saying i would have to sign for the package. WTF, Amazon never does this, and my UPS station is 30 miles outside of town. I had to wait until Monday to get the package by signing their slip and taping it to my door.

Agreed. And they downplay the whole "Oh, you don't need multiplayer to get the best ending, it's possible in single-player" part, when apparently it's more complicated than that. It is possible in single-player, but from what I've seen so far it's very difficult. You basically have to make the right decision nearly every time, and the Paragon response isn't always the right decision for your War Effort stats. Neither is "Sure, old friend, join me on the Normandy," by the way.

Doesn't help that the multiplayer is basically awful, either.

Maybe I'm an outlier, but I don't really care about 'the best ending'. The choices I make through the series ultimately lead to my conclusion. It's my story, and I made it happen. This is the same reason I won't play through the series again - because my first instinct in a situation is the one I would take.

I think that's a perfectly valid viewpoint. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum, though -- stressing about making sure I see every possible branching option that the game has to offer.

This is the first "awful" I've really seen in pretty much a sea of "it's awesome"s.

Re: Mass Effect 3

Seriously? It's a very limited, repetitive horde mode with 3 different enemy variations and what seems like 3 maps. It was ok for the first couple of matches, I suppose.

I'd be interested in hearing what's good about it, because I've played it for 2 or 3 hours and it's lost on me. My impression was that it's quickly becoming a matter of ridicule.

Haven't gotten to check it out yet myself. Were you playing with friends? That may make all the difference in the world.

How the fuck can a mission that takes place within the first few hours of the game require Disc 2 already? This is horseshit.

That's pretty much how I play. My gut instinct is the one I stick to. That's how I lost my crew but kept my whole squad alive in ME2.

Get used to it. I've switched from disc 1 to 2 to 1 to 2 to 1 to 2 and I'm only about 12 hours in.

Does installing both discs to the hard-drive eliminate disc swapping?

Well, I went ahead and cancelled my Target order and re-ordered through Amazon. The delivery estimate is March 21, 2012 - March 28, 2012 but with Amazon Prime I'll not pay any shipping, instead of the $9 I'd have paid to ship it from Target (assuming they'd ever deliver the items).
