Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

I was not a fan of the second one, but I was all ready to get this because my friend loves it, and it would have been a blast coop...but no online coop....why? If you put in a split-screen coop, you might as well do online...I heard some say maybe it was to hard on the engine, but hell the mp is only a hair below the single player in graphics, and that is a hell of a lot more people than 2...BOOO

On February 8, we will be releasing a special PlayStation Plus update giving all PlayStation Plus subscribers exclusive access to a single player demo for Killzone 3. Killzone fans will get the first look at how the war between the ISA and Helghast has changed now that the fight has been moved to the Helghast’s homeland. The demo will be an Auto Download, so make sure you have the feature enabled (Check this post for more info on Automatic Downloads).

Starting at 10AM Pacific Time today, the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta is live! Japan and Europe are already hard at frag and now it’s time for North America and Mexico to join the party! You’ll find the Killzone 3 Beta on the main page of the PlayStation Store; it’s also listed under the 3D and PlayStation Move categories for added convenience.

The Open Beta includes one map, Frozen Dam. All game modes can be played on this map:

•Warzone: The traditional Killzone game mode with game types changing on-the-fly
•Guerrilla Warfare: Our take on Team Deathmatch
•Operations: Our new story driven multiplayer game mode
•Botzone: An offline version of Warzone which can be played against AI opponents
The Killzone 3 Open Beta is playable in 3D and supports the PlayStation Move motion controller. The Beta trial runs until February 15th, so get on board while you can! If you have any feedback, Killzone.com has a section of the forum specifically set up for this purpose. You can of course track all your stats on Killzone.com as well.

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

It's been a good while since I played KZ

played KZ2 MP religiously until Uncharted 2 came out and then went cold turkey
having just played the open beta of KZ3 I must say I was not impressed at all
seemed very unpolished .... didn't like the menus and presentation at all

didn't even see or get to use the M82 (weapon of choice)

right now this went from a must have to a wait and see

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

Well just played the demo and wow the visuals are amazing. The water looks fantastic. I got killed multiple times because I was watching the huge waves crash along the shore. Also the snow falling looks amazing as well.

Controls feel better then Killzone 2. Its just I hate using the ps3 controller for FPS. Aiming never feels good, always feels too slippery with the analog sticks. They need more resistance. Wish I could use the 360 controller.

I'm gonna assume you don't have a Move controller to try out? Reviews have been solid for that kind of control on this game...

no move controller yet. Would like to try it out with this game though.

Well I gotta say after playing this demo more I really love it. Controls arent perfect but they are much better then Killzone 2. I gotta say they fixed one of the things I wanted fixed most. Which was the motion blur. Killzone 2 gave me motion sickness more then any other game and one reason why I didnt play MP much. but after playing this demo for an hour I realized they removed the slight motion blur that gave me the motion sickness. Yea!

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

had my best game tonight a whopping 21-18-5 .... hey it's the small victories, and it was second best on my team

took getting used to the controls as I always have a hard time adjusting to KZ after coming over from Uncharted 2 MP and vice versa

enjoyed it a bit more than last night but still haven't seen much/if anything that makes me like this more than I did the last one

and I still think the menus look like @ss ... speaking of which, nice that the programmers used "ass" as the heading for the assists column

Checked this out the other nighta and was really impressed by the visuals. The controls have tempered my excitement. I found them to be really slow for some reason. I went from a definite buy to a rent first.

That's exactly how I felt about the last game. Great graphics and a pretty good single player campaign killed by a shitty control feeling. I plan on renting this one as well.

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

I really enjoyed the demo and it actually made me check out the multiplayer for Killzone 2. While they are both great, Killzone 3 feels like it's much easier to jump into and control. I also like how they let you start off as any class from the start and then earn the better weapons/perks as you progress. That is my only problem with K2, because as a noob, I'm constantly being raped by higher ranks with perks/weapons that I have no chance of getting in a looong time. So it makes it quite difficult to counteract some of that stuff.

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

I liked the 2nd one (never played the first) but after playing MW2 and going back to play KZ2 a while ago, I couldn't believe how sluggish the controls were and the motion blur annoyed me.

I downloaded the open beta last night and it seems like they really listened to the complaints about the controls and motion blur as it was MUCH improved in both areas. I did a quick both match for about 30 minutes and had a blast. Wasn't sure if I'd pick this one up or not but now I'm really thinking about it.

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

I had fun with the Killzone 3 beta tonight...but I still am not "feeling" the controls....The game looks nice...a bit more polished than the Crysis 2 demo, but with less stuff going on and slower paced. I might pick this up even without the online coop...

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

I didn't feel like I was doing especially well in the multiplayer demo, but I was finishing rounds in the top-3 positions every time - as opposed to CoD, where I finish in the bottom-3 spots every time. Maybe this one's just more my speed.

Also, I dig the bots option - tried it once, and they're not too dumb (depending on the difficulty you select). I also noticed that a game with bots runs MUCH better and far more smooth than an online game does.

X-Play gives it a 4 out of 5.

+1

Just played through the SP demo. Been a long time since I've played a game on the PS3 and it reminds me how much I hate the controller. My hand started cramping up halfway through the demo. I'm not really looking forward to playing a whole game.

Anyways, the demo's pretty good. Been a while since KZ2, but based on my memories, this one handles much better.

The only part I didn't like (outside of the PS3 Controller) was the jetpack section. Just couldn't get the hang of it. Hopefully it's just a small gimmick and there aren't entire levels relying on the jetpacks.

Pretty embarrassing clip, but IGN unboxes the Helghast Edition. Didn't understand why it was priced $130 before, and now I still don't. Wait a few months and these will be on clearance for half that I bet. Then you can put the helmet on your second cat and stage a feline Helghast vs Spartan battle in your mother's basement

Re: Killzone 3 (February 2011)

Played the single player demo today. Really enjoyed it however, I popped in KZ2 afterwards after having not played it for a while. I bumped up the control sensitivity (making the control issue not as bad as I remembered) and even still the sluggish controls and motion blur annoyed me but I couldn't help but think it looked better than the KZ3 demos. Is it possible the demos are using lower quality textures or something or was there a deliberate reduction in visual detail to speed up the frame rate/gameplay? Either way, I enjoyed the hell out of both the MP and SP demos so I'm pretty sure I'll be picking this up but was just slightly curious.

Edit-With the Amazon deal I went ahead and pre-ordred it. Should be fun.

why is that even 130 bucks? Makes me feel a little better about the 99 bucks I have on the Balls of Steel Duke set....
