Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
If you haven't read this article take a few minutes to give it a go.
IGN asked a lot of the right questions (What's the plan for upgrading old DLC? How do you approach a band in terms of getting them into the game? Is there any info about getting RB2 songs into RB3...and how much will it cost? What's the deal with "The Perfect Drug?" And that's just a small sampling.) While they didn't answer everything, it's clear the guy doing the interview is a huge fan of the game. So it wasn't just, "I hear there's a new instrument in the game. Can you tell me about it?" I thought they did a great job and I'm as excited as ever to get the damn game. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
The real news there is the BILLY FUCKING JOEL(!!!) is on the list for the 2000th RB track amongst artists that already have multiple songs in the game (REM, Doors, Hendrix, Rush, STP) which tells me he basically HAS to be coming soon.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see the Harmonix guy mentioning Billy Joel. Seems like IGN just tossed that name onto their poll.

I like Green Day, but $20 is my max for what basically will amount to an import of songs to the "mothership" title (which will soon be RB3!).....which I guess actually means I need to get the GD:RB disc itself for like $10, since the import costs $10 too I believe.... |

I'd hope they'd be able to get it to $300. Anything beyond that is going to be a serious barrier to adoption.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I hadn't heard that, no. It would be a nice bonus if the system-specific hardware wasn't included that the MIDI box would be as a gateway drug to other, realer instruments.

And you'll need the $40 MIDI adapter on top of it for your specific system right?
Because the guitar is "platform agnostic", they wouldn't want to create 3 SKUs for the different platforms just for the midi adapter. Also, the adapter is made by Mad Catz (and can be used for e-drums and midi keyboards) and the Squier is being made by Fender. Two different companies. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Wow. Even more reason to wait for an Amazon DotD.

Alright, so it's already been posted, but I'll post it again, 'cause I already did it and I bolded the questions so it's easier to read:

So I'm pretty happy with the live recordings they chose for Madhouse & Metal Thrashing Mad:

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
The Doobie Brothers on guitar . Very Kung-Fu Fighting-esque and exhausting. Still awesome, though, and they sound amazing.

Is this the same MIDI adapter they're offering for people with keyboards? Because I was already planning on getting that. It would suck to have to get two MIDI adapters.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Given that I will most likely be the only one to play pro keys or pro guitar, I'd imagine I'd need only one. Everyone else can play one of my 50 plastic guitars.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
So looking at the Squier, it seems it just has a standard 5-pin MIDI out built into it.
I've actually dabbled with MIDI guitar and have a 4-year old Squier, but it's loaded with a Roland MIDI pickup which uses a special 13-pin connector I believe is fairly common amongst pro MIDI guitars. The Squier then connects to a MIDI receiver via the 13-pin, and the receiver has standard 5-pin MIDI outs. I wonder, if I run the MIDI out from the Roland receiver to the Rock Band MIDI adapter, do you think it would work? I'm thinking maybe these Squier's built for Rock Band use aren't sending as much data as a pro MIDI guitar would, but who knows. Should be an interesting experiment when I finally get my hands on this stuff. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I don't know, if it was that simple I don't see why they would put off the release so long. Only logic would be to give Mad Catz a chance to sell that pathetic button matrix as part of the "exclusive hardware partnership".

Doesn't matter, he says they fixed the glitch. I am betting amazon though since it says they now have a notify and i know amazon does that, and htey happen to have rb3 for e notify right now. Also because everyone shops there so there is a good chance it's them. Maybe one slipped through.

You just wouldn't have that benefit of seeing what you would play beforehand. |

If it was Amazon, I highly doubt just his 1 order would slip through. Also of note, there is French writing on the box.
I really wish Circuit City was still around. I can guarantee that they'd sell the bundle early. I got GH2 about 10 days before release and could've with GH3 as well (but would've had to drive about 90 minutes each way). For whatever reasons, they didn't see accessories as being street-dated and you could order them for in-store pickup. That ship has sunk though. |
