I can only hope the lack of Foo Fighters this week means we're going to get more than 1 song in the near future - their new record is fucking awesome.

I'm in for the pack. I just wish the other 3 FM songs had pro guitar/bass too. Maybe the next Mac pack will feature Lindsey Buckingham solo songs. I want "Holiday Road".

Ditto, but I'll be returning it when my GameShark $35.99 one gets here on Monday.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I'm in for the Fleetwood/Stevie pack. The overall trend of less songs but bigger hits continues. I find myself buying nearly all of the content they are supplying every week compared to the days when they sprinkled in more deep tracks with the hits.

Also, I was wondering if anyone has noticed bigger sales of Rock Band 3 in their area since the price drop? I know this is tangential and pretty dicey at best, but at my suburban Best Buy near Minneapolis, I definitely noticed less RB3 stock. Prior to the price drop, there were a few rows of games. As of yesterday, however, there were only two copies remaining. Assuming they were sold and not transferred out or something, that's a good sign, right?

It's still too bad that customers really can't go into a store and buy RB3 along with a guitar or some other instrument, but at least it seems the game is selling. Getting more people access to all the music at the RB Store is nothing but good.

And the Harmonix DLC fail continues. Aside from Pro Drums and a better "front end" for the music, RB3 is pretty terrible. Even the on disc songs are the worst of any guitar game to date. Maybe someday they will release good music from the past decade or so. Someone tell them that my mom barely plays Rock Band

Agreed. They've been really consistent lately - lots of great, recognizable songs.

When I got mine Tuesday, BB.com said no one in the state had any, but, ya know... I assume you've called?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Yesterday I bought pro upgrades for pretty much everything I had that had pro... read 3... and some pro songs with upgrades to get ready for when i can play my squier.

Kind of disappointed at the amount of dlc with no pro mode. I know that the old stuff likely will not have it, but at this point I see no reason why they shouldn't have a pro mode with every new dlc song that comes out, at this point it's just programming it in for more money.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

You would think pro modes would be insanely easy to port in for most songs. In theory far easier than 5-button mapping assuming you have the tabs for the song. I would think that you take the tab and make a 1:1 mapping for Expert mode. Then you dumb it down from there. Whereas the traditional way is more subjective.

Anyway, yeah, it is a little weird, IMO. The only logic that makes sense is that the effort to create those charts for the cost means they want to make sure the upgrades will sell significantly and should, therefore, be prioritized for "fun" or "challenging" or "classic" songs.

You're right, with the tabs they could have a team of 10 guys do all the songs in the library in less than a week I'm sure. They would make some bank too

Honestly I bet their program even dumbs it down for them.. like 1 less note every 4 algorithm for hard, 1 less every 3 for medium, and 1 less ever 2 for easy... something like that.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Tabs you find around the net usually aren't 100% accurate. From what HMX has said, they have their audio team listen to the song a bunch and watch video of the artist performing the song to get the most "accurate" charting they can.

As for charting only "fun" or "challenging" songs, I present to you the tabs for Edge of Seventeen for next week. Again, this may not be 100% how HMX chart it, but I'm sure it's pretty close.

Fun? Hardly.

I have no idea how they pick what songs are getting pro.

Also, their dumbing it down for other difficulties is not done programmatically. That's all done by hand in order to make for the "best" charts for each difficulty. So, it's not like they can automate things and make pro charts of all of the songs in a week. That's just silly talk.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Hahahahahahah! Maybe it's the bass part that makes it fun? I dunno.

But I guess when I said tab (and this is coming from someone with just enough musical knowledge to be dangerous when unsupervised), I was referring more to the books you can buy with all that stuff in there. Or even maybe access from the label/artist as to what they wrote down, if anything.

You're right, tabs can vary, but don't a whole lot of artists have official sheet music out there with tabs on it?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

By the way, if you want to try out some tabs with the guitar plugged into an amp go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/

tons of them for free.

Either you got your tab for edge of seventeen from that site or hmx did, that exact one is on the site lol.. along with this one.

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|2---2-2-2----2-2-2----2-2-2---2-2-2---2-2-2---2-2-2---2-2-2---2-2-2---2-2-2|
