Another thing slowing my HOPO progress down, is my penchant for chord-heavy punk songs. Not a lot of noodling in those. I did make some good gains on JoCo's "Betty and Me" last night on Hard cuz fuck Expert on that!

I do like RB2's challenge system better than RB3's goals. It seems like every time I bought DLC back then, the challenges would update, either adding to an existing one or opening up a brand new challenge. (RB2's tour mode was also superior, IMO.) Harmonix were probably focusing more on hacky sack when they were developing that component of the game. Grumble, grumble...

Speaking of goals, has anyone (here or elsewhere) maxed out the number of fans yet? Getting 1.3 million fans when completing a goal sounds huge, but it barely budges the meter.

I'm sure Shag has. I'm about a quarter of the way to the star myself.

I'm actually only about half-way there. 532mil, I think. I'm not actively going for challenges right now, and am just worrying about logging scores. I finished up Guitar near the beginning of the year (~1800 songs), and only have about 10 that I can't/haven't beaten. That puts me at #10 on the overall scores leaderboard for that instrument. Currently, I'm working on bass and throwing down on vocals every now and then as well.

I'll probably get some goals next week once my Squier arrives, and then when I finally get around to drums and keys as well. I do wish the goals more closely mimicked the Tour Challenges from RB2. I would like to have a new challenge or two with each pack released, even if it was just "beat these songs", although I think they could get more robust like some of the goals now with "get a certain % on the solo" or "get an X note streak", etc. It seems like such a wasted effort if they don't really expand on it. I've only seen two new goals added, and that was the Bang Camaro and Main Drag ones when they patched it. Certainly they don't have to patch the game in order to add new goals.

..Or do they? hackysack grumble grumble

I'm hoping when RB4 eventually comes out we'll get a synthesis of the RB2 touring style with RB3 genre selection options.

I'm sure they'll bring back something good they left out, and then leave out something good that they had just put in.

Hmm, yeah I guess everything that specifies is for the Wii or DS. I suppose if that's the trend, then the pro guitar will also be Wii only.

Isn't the Squier coming out in a week or two? I'm looking forward to that. I still haven't gotten a chance to try pro guitar/bass yet.

According to @S1ckH4nds of RockGamer Studios, we'll be seeing RBN2.0 by lunch tomorrow!

Latest word on the #RBN 2.0 re-launch; tomorrow, before noon EST, barring any sudden act of God, subject to change, all rights reserved etc.

Do we know what songs will be available at launch or is it literally just RBN 2.0 that'll be available tomorrow - like available for song creation, submission, etc.?

Just the Creators' website. The tools for uploading, testing, and peer review and stuff will be available tomorrow, but since nothing that's uploaded will have gone through that process, we as happy gamer peoples won't see any benefit from it for a while. It'll be a few weeks (I read an estimate of a month?) before that translates into "you can buy songs now".

A bunch of RBN 2.0 songs have been mentioned on rockband.com's forums. If you want some previews...

DLC for 3/1!

Hey gang,

Next Tuesday we'll be releasing four classic Nine Inch Nails tracks, fresh from the 2010 remaster of 1989's Pretty Hate Machine. Man, 1989. That means Trent Reznor has been angry about stuff for longer than a lot of the people reading this have been alive. Celebrate this landmark industrial album with the four tracks below. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (March 1):

• “Terrible Lie”
• “Head Like a Hole” X
• “Sanctified”
• “The Only Time”

(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system March 2)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks and as “Pretty Hate Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$6.99, £3.49 UK, €5.29 EU (560 Microsoft Points, 700 Wii Points) for Pretty Hate Pack 01
INSTA-BUY!!!! Wish* it was the full PHM album. Sin, Ringfinger, Something I Can Never Have, Down In It :drool: (Maybe that's Pretty Hate Pack 02). I'm not exaggerating when I say this is a 10-song album I would have gladly paid the full $20 for.

*Wish for Wish too.

You missed the second post in that.. Pro upgrades!

With the release of the Rock Band 3 Fender Squier Stratocaster Guitar Controller next week and with the Fender Mustang PRO-Guitar Controller already out in the world we thought Rock Band fans might like more Pro Guitar songs to master. On March 1st we’ll release Pro Guitar / Pro Bass Upgrades for a bunch of previously released tracks, some of the most popular in the RB library. Check out the list below:

Available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii on March 1st

* Blink 182 – “Dammit”
* Boston – “More Than A Feeling”
* Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Bad Moon Rising”
* Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Fortunate Son (Original Version)”
* Eve 6 – “Inside Out”
* The James Gang – “Funk #49″
* The Knack – “My Sharona (Cover Version)”
* Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Simple Man”
* Metallica – “…And Justice for All”
* The Offspring – “Self Esteem”
* Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble – “Pride and Joy”

These Pro Guitar / Pro Bass Upgrades will be available for $0.99 each. You must own the original DLC track in order to purchase and play the Pro Guitar / Pro Bass Upgrade. For more information about Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades, visit our support section. Rock Band 3 Pro Mode requires Rock Band Pro-compatible instrument controllers.

So are they free? Do we have to upgrade the original songs to RB3 versions and then Pro?

$0.99 per song. There's no RB3 version. It just places the upgrade over the top of the existing DLC. The reason they had the "(RB3 Version)" on some of them only is because those were from exports, and for whatever reason, they couldn't do it for them.

That really makes no sense, as I would think that it would be the same steps as if the song was in a pack, but I guess there's a difference.

I'm probably in for any NIN ever released, but PHM is so dated it's ridiculous. IMO that album does not hold up sound wise compared to everything after. But hey...as I said, I will buy all NIN they put out.

Plus it'll be funny to sing like Trent crying about everything from 22 years ago a few days after he's won an Oscar.
