Have you heard the re-release?

Wow...Pro Guitar SRV? Incredible. And great list of others, too. Hopefully more catalog are on the way, especially since they've been kind of light for most weeks.

Yeah, but it doesn't make the songs not sound dated for the timeframe and style of music IMO.

I'm in for the NIN - I thought the PHM re-master sounded fucking awesome so this should be great. I have to search around to see if Canada is getting the fender next week or not - I have a feeling I'll have to find one in the states...

Whee! That's a pretty nice selection of pro guitar tracks. I hope they keep upgrading existing DLC like this.

I'm kind of curious what the plan is for the Squier. I know Best Buy had an exclusive on pre-orders, but is it going to pop up through other retailers on these shores?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I have 8 of those 11 tracks (no Metallica, Knack cover, or SRV). I would probably upgrade all of them if I had a pro guitar. Would be nice too if they counted for the "25 song" achievements, but alas.

PHM is probably in my top 3 favorite Reznor albums. I will definitely pick these up.

More NIN makes me a happy panda!

Not a NIN fan but that is a helluva selection for the pro-guitar folks.

Nice - I'm in for all the NIN tracks. Hopefully they'll deliver some more from PHM, as well as the other few tracks that were released for Guitar Hero.

More NIN!

Can't wait to play those songs from PHM.

I'm hoping this Squire isn't low stock, I can see it being very niche and them not getting many in. I can't get it until a week after release. Hopefully other retailers will have it by then, i'd much rather get it from amazon.

I'm hoping it's so niche that I can get it on clearance in a few months ;)

Every single Squier guitar on Musicians Friend is at least 35% off, and the discounts go as high as 44% off. If they carry the Rock Band-friendly version and keep the same general range of discounts, it'll be $149.99 - $189.99...plus free shipping and no sales tax for most of us. I'll hold out for that, although any discount would be better than the 0% off Best Buy is offering (a negative percentage after factoring in tax and stuff too).

Before Harmonix' announcement about next week's pro guitar tracks was posted, a guy on their forums posted a long list of on-disc songs/DLC primed for pro upgrades. No one really paid it much attention at first, but it turns out that he did list 10 of the 11 songs HMX announced, so maybe the rest of his list will pan out too. Admittedly, some of these we already knew from that premature posting on the Wii, but I'm pretty sure quite a few are fresh. There are some really good choices coming up if that's the case...

Alice in Chains – Rooster
Black Sabbath – War Pigs (Cover Version)

Blink-182 – Dammit
Boston – More Than A Feeling
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Bad Moon Rising
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Fortunate Son (Original Version)
Eve 6 – Inside Out
Foo Fighters – Monkey Wrench
Foo Fighters – The Pretender
Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out
Iron Maiden – The Trooper

James Gang – Funk #49
Jane’s Addiction – Jane Says
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Simple Man
Mötley Crüe – Kickstart My Heart
Nirvana – Breed
Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit
Pearl Jam – Even Flow
Ramones – Rock ‘n’ Roll High School

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Under The Bridge
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble – Pride and Joy
Stone Temple Pilots – Interstate Love Song
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Little Wing
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze
The Knack – My Sharona (Cover Version)
The Offspring – Self Esteem
The White Stripes – Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground
Tom Petty – Runnin’ Down a Dream

Weezer – Beverly Hills
Weezer – Buddy Holly

Rooster would be awesome to play.

Well according to that site, aside from the craptacular tiny Youplay guitar, the cheapest guitar with midi out is running 999.00 so I figure 340 is a damn decent deal for this if I ever decide I could actually use that feature.

Ramones – Rock ‘n’ Roll High School
???

Is this available? It's my favorite Ramones hit and I'd be shocked if I've missed it.

The song itself is out (rockband.com sez Jan. 10th, 2010). The pro guitar upgrade is just a rumor at this point.

From http://www.destructoid.com/alex-rigo...e-195219.phtml :

Certainly, Rock Band 3 was a strong offering when you guys released it last year. So there's still a lot there. Does this mean we're not going to see another Rock Band this year, [and that] you're just going to focus on supporting the Rock Band 3 product?

In the short term this year, I think we're going to be focusing on cultivating Rock Band 3, which means reaching out to new audiences, [and] bringing some really compelling new content onto the platform. Running with the Rock Band Pro functionality, which can really start to be fully realized now that the Squier is coming to market. There's a lot of development to be done over the course of this year, with new content for Rock Band 3.

So that's what we're focusing on in terms of what's in the marketplace this year. And then beyond this year, as I touched on, there's some far more fundamental reimaginings of the Rock Band franchise that we're thinking about right now.
I'm not sure if "short term this year" means "no Rock Band sequel in 2011" or "um, we don't want to announce something that's coming out in November yet". The next (or one of the next?) Rock Band game(s), when it rolls around, sounds like it'll be a pretty significant shift rather than just polishing/refining what we already have.

Also of interest:

I would say the largest single development team at the studio is hard at work on Dance Central, without being able to be too much more specific than that...and we also have significant resources devoted to a number of new IPs and new game concepts in development as well. So there's actually quite a lot of work underway here on a diverse variety of projects.

And I guess my general point there is that label, "music games," I think that encompasses an extremely broad set of additional experiences that still remain largely untapped, and of course that's a very intriguing new frontier of creative [research and development] for Harmonix as well.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Anybody picking up the Squier? Part of me wants it. The other part of me thinks that I won't actually learn how to play guitar using it, and wants to use the $300 for more practical things.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

There's a review from Guitar Player mag: http://www.rockbandaide.com/11209/gu...-band-3-squier

While this isn't the full review nor can you read it from the screen grabs, it does say this:

As a game controller, the Squier is light years ahead of anything I’ve seen on the market.
...
No game can take the place of studying with a real teacher or jamming with real musicians – nor should it – but this is a brilliant complement to those pursuits.”

Yeah, that RockBandAide article is what made me remember that the guitar is coming out tomorrow. I don't think I can justify the investment, as cool as it looks.

Yeah, but I'm waiting to see if it's any cheaper once other retailers start carrying it. Hopefully all that's announced sooner rather than later.

Shagrath 02-28-11 05:44 PM

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I've had mine pre-ordered for a couple of months now. I'll be picking it up tomorrow!
