Meh, pretty much. I had some, waited until I tried it at least. I haven't actually ordered it yet though.

Any update on when account linking will be live? I bet they're kicking themselves for not doing the .com upgrade sooner.

Doc_SoCal on the RB forums (Oh so loving Tech Support Forum Guru) said this about the keyboard+pedal issue:

Mad Catz just confirmed over the phone with me that they are aware of the problem and that it will be fixed in a firmware update.

No ETA was available other than ASAP.
Firmware update? Sounds like an exchange program because I don't have a way to flash it. Unless they're sending a free MIDI/USB cable, then that would be sweet!

Okay so two things:

1) This was my third night with the game. When I started I created one character and just let the other three default characters be in my band. Yesterday they were all still there. Today, all three of them were replaced, even when I go back and watch replays of the cutscenes I've already unlocked. The hell? I'd gotten kinda fond of my default bandmates.

2) Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, but after playing 35-40 songs now I reached Here I Go Again by Whitesnake. I'm playing on Hard/Expert Guitar. About halfway through the song there's a string of blue and orange notes in some kind of trench. They're distinctly different than any notes I've ever seen before. What the heck are these?

I think it's one of those fast HOPO sections. I haven't investigated yet, but they mirror the new drum rolls.

Those are trills. Seemed like you they made it so you don't have to hit them all (or can hit extras) without breaking combo. Just HO/PO for the "trench."

Ok, so I am at the second road tour place, I have 5 starred/spade'd every single one, and I still don't have enough fans to hit the 3rd road challange, how am I supposed to get more? I'm pretty close, and don't tell me to RTFM, I don't need no steekin manual.

Completing Goals gives fans. Check the "Career->My Goals" stuff. There's a buttload.

FWIW, I never had an issue waiting for the next Road Challenge to be available.

It is completely frustrating being mostly capable on guitar/drums and starting at the ground level with keyboards. I was looking forward to the challenge, but it's definitely harder to go back to the beginning then I thought it was going to be. I'm keeping at it, but I think I need to make sure I'm doing it in small doses. I just want to dive in and be able to move my hands in ways it doesn't want to do.

Dude, just go standard expert keys. They're a very easy and fun transition from guitar. Pro is a fucking beast and it kills my hands. Chart moving is even more confusing.

Thanks for the pro tip. Oh...did I mention my struggles are on standard Hard? kthanx. ;)

I'm seriously terrible. :(

Are you using your thumb and fingers or doing it like the guitar with just four fingers and moving your hand? I was really hardcore on wanting to get my thumb in on the action (sexy) but wondering if that's what's making my life hell.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

To be fair, I've only gone through the first 2 or 3 tiers on Expert. I'm sure I'd settle on Hard eventually, like guitar.

I did fail at the end of I Love Rock & Roll

oh, i didn't know about a my goals stuff. I will check that out, thanks

Just occurred to me that the ESL3 achievement might be able to be had with no fail mode on. So, before I go to bed, I set it up with a wired mic and my turbo controller with the A button held down. May not even be done by the time I wake up in 6.5 hours.

Yeah, it's fucking lame, but seriously I just don't have the patience for it anymore. I got my bladder of steel in RB2 so neh-ne-neh-neh!

I don't know if this was discussed/discovered yet, but I just unlocked the ability to play the KEYS on my guitar for all the songs. It makes gold starring things on Expert 100x easier, and unlocks tons of keys challenges. I may actually have a chance again on 5 starring the game on expert! :)

Side note: Freebird's guitar solo on hard can eat my ass.

I actually find it the exact opposite. Almost easier. I think the game is MORE accurate, especially with HO/PO.

Gold Stars seem much easier to achieve also, especially solo. There are some sections of glowing notes in songs where you get double the OD points (just like the unison bonus for multiplayer).

^^^ If anyone is looking for the 60 second OD achievement, it's now possible playing solo because of that "solo" unison bonus. I played The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars and had a 108 second OD streak playing bass completely solo.

I think the point here on difficulty is not that it's necessarily harder to hit notes, but rather it takes less mistakes to fail out, At least that's been my experience.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Per the prior discussion on Pro Keys, these songs aren't meant to be "sight-read". Go into practice and pick "Learn a Song" and do the trainers. This will go through the key sections of the songs in basically a practice mode style thing. Once you get those down, you should have no problem actually playing the song at your specified level. Same thing goes for pro guitar/bass.

Interesting. Well I guess I find it easier because I don't seem to be missing as many notes as I used to, so the mistakes don't appear to be as critical.

I case anyone else is interested, you can get the Mustang Pro Guitar for $125 shipped at Provantage.com. It's out of stock, but it says it will ship directly from the manufacturer, and Madcatz has been shipping them out slowly.

http://www.provantage.com/mad-catz-r...1~7MATZ090.htm

I'll use this until the Squier comes out and then just sell it to get the Squier.

It works. Looks like it took less than 6.5 hours since it was already on song 10 of the 2nd ESL3 when I checked.

Now, the question is how are you going to prove your love for me?

You can go into the "customize my band" section and choose the characters that you want to use as your stand-ins.

I'm having a lot of fun with the keyboard. I'm playing on pro-keys medium difficulty and doing sight reads on the songs. I did go through all the beginner tutorials, but grew tired of the scales parts.

The one issue I have is that it sucks trying to activate overdrive with the little button when my hand is usually not in a position to do so easily. I either have to wait for a slight break in the notes, or break a combo. I can imagine if I move up to hard or expert keys that it will be more difficult to do that. I'm going to have to look into a solution for overdrive.

Again, the keyboard is supposed to have the option to activate OD using a kick pedal plugged into the right side. However someone forgot to actually program the keyboard to recognize it. Some sort of fix is allegedly coming from Mad Catz.
