If I was at a concert in hell I would imagine the headliner would be Phish, with Rush for an opening act.

That seems really unlikely. Has there ever been a week with less than 3 songs? Maybe they keep saying Subdivisions, but they mean whatever album that song is on?

VERY disappointing only having one new song as DLC come out one week after release. Though it is an awesome song.

I can't wait to see how they do that. I so hope it's just the one file so that pro and non-pro purchasers can play together and you're free to upgrade later for just the $1 difference. I won't want to decide up front if I care about the pro charts.

This is more than likely how it'll work. The Pro upgrade will just be a 108KB key. It's the most feasible way of doing things.

Yeah, that had better be how they do it.

But then it will patch the file so your file won't be the same as the other person's. Provided the game matches by title and not say checksum of some kind then that would work, otherwise it may just have a simple flag in the meta of the file with an on and off that can be enabled or disabled to yes, or no.

That's not true. See: Game Room. Or any XBLA game that allows online play through the demo.

The additional license key is read by the game to enable access to extra content already in the file.

Well that's what I meant. It will be the SAME file with a meta flag that gets flagged to yes when you buy pro, the info for pro is already in the file, but the flag would enable it, which is what the live stuff does, it just enables content already in the file. It would be the same file for pro and non pro instead of separate files. If you haven't paid the dollar extra then you just can't access it, maybe you could go to the rock band store and pay 99 cents and it will update your current file with the new meta.

I was just throwing something out there :P

IT will probably be a key of some kind, but that will be a pain in the ass if you have to download all your songs again, say at that point you have 100, you will have to download 100 songs AND 100 key files.

However they do it, it would probably have to be something where pro and non-pro players can work together, because vocals don't have a special pro mode.

Great, bigger files to clog up my HD with pro parts I'll never play. I'm going over to the RB forums to bitch! Oh wait...

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I doubt the pro guitar data is anything more than a few hundred KB's. The biggest part of the files is the music itself, probably followed far behind by the animation data.

You couldn't get me to sit through Phish as an opening act for Rush...even if I was guaranteed to be sitting in Peart's lap during the show...

I know...that's hot.

glassdragon.. You're saying exactly what I originally said. The pro "upgrade" will just be a key that flips a 0 to a 1 in the "regular" DLC. Keys are typically 108KB.

I'm talking more like a real time change on the song when you buy it, the game modifies the file on your hard drive so you don't have to download a seperate key. The store will then have you flagged as having pro mode and when you download it next time it will be a different download than the non pro file with the flag already changed to on. Anything to not have to download hundreds of key files if you have a lot of dlc songs.

Do you really go in and look at the contents of your Rock Band folder on your HDD that often? Plus, you can delete songs from in-game now. Then again, why would you want to get rid of something you paid for?

Yeah, pretty sure there is no way that they have any sort of DLC content that is write-able. It's all treated as read-only, since it would be pretty dangerous to allow that sort of functionality. That's the whole purpose of the key files. It's the safe way to enable access to content you have already downloaded.

That reminds me, sucks that every time you want to delete a song (or in my case, a RBN demo) through RB3 it has to go through and recheck all of your DLC. So it takes over a minute just to delete a single track.
