Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Public service announcement for people who have/are getting Pro Guitar. ALL of the Queen songs released today have the upgrade for Pro G/B, including We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions.
If you want to do the Pro G/B upgrades for the the songs previously released as DLC without buying the new versions, you have to find the originals in the music store and buy the upgrade that way. WWRY/WATC, like the Bon Jovi songs, can only be upgraded if you buy the RB3 versions because they were previously only on-disc. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Wait a second, so we CAN upgrade to pro Guitar/Bass for the old Queen songs without rebuying the RB3 versions??
|
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Yes, but if you ever decided you also wanted the keyboard parts/harmonies, wouldn't you need to rebuy the track and the pro guitar upgrade?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
This is now extra confusing.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
According to Joystiq, Best Buy may be getting the Squier early (though it may just be early pre-orders, hard to tell): http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/07/be...re-sales-star/
Best Buy has informed us that it will exclusively offer the Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster "controller" (also known as "the real guitar") before the previously announced March 1 release date. Just how early Best Buy will be selling the guitar has yet to be confirmed, but the retailer claims to have the exclusive on the device "through March, 2011," perhaps pushing back the availability of the guitar from other retailers. Best Buy will begin taking pre-orders for the "Pro" peripheral on December 15, both in-store and online. Don't forget, you need a MIDI Pro Adapter to use this guitar with Rock Band 3. To use it like a regular guitar, you need ... an amp! |

I think what he's asking is if you already have the previous Queen DLC, but you want pro keys/harmonies and pro guitar, will you have to buy both? As far as I know, the answer is yes. You can get pro guitar with either version of the DLC, but if you want keys/harmonies, you have to repurchase the song completely. If you want both, you need to buy both of these new files for each song.

Ahh.. Guess I misread. You have to rebuy for keyboards/harmonies, but would only have to buy the pro guitar upgrade once and it work for both versions.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
This upgrade system is way too confusing. I'm not buying anything.

HMXhenry Aaron Trites @ @skyttskytt Pro G/B upgrades are tied to that version of the song. So if you DL the upgrade for RB3 version it will only work with that one. HMXhenry Aaron Trites @ @skyttskytt Mostly song ID issues. AFAIK there's technically no way for us to have an upgrade "recognize" multiple versions of songs |

No, I'm pretty sure there is a limitation by version. This is HMXHenry from Twitter:

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
That makes little to no sense. The upgrade file is just a midi of the note chart (as far as I'm aware). There's no audio data in there at all, as that's all in the song side (with the regular DLC). You might have to delete and redownload stuff to get it to work, but I don't see why it's not possible.
I'm under the assumption that HMXHenry and the entire community team are just fucking stupid assholes and have no idea how things work on back end and just make up stuff as they go along. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
With all this crap about different versions, I might just say screw pro mode. It saves me money not having to buy the Strat.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Yeah, my question was basically "Isn't it possible to have purchased the RB2 version of a song for $2, then the pro guitar upgrade for $1, then the RB3 version for $2 for harmonies and keyboards and then a final $1 to get pro guitar back, bringing your grand total for 1 song up to $6?" It was a rhetorical question, a riddle and a cautionary tale all wrapped in one.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Played the new version of "I Want It All" on medium keys. 5 starred it. Ranked #50 on the leaderboards. I'm not sure what that means beyond more people either need to get the updated Queen songs or people need to get crackin' on the 360 keyboard. Either way, I hope I'm *not* anywhere near #50 in the near future.
Overall, I'm enjoying all the Queen songs on keys. This is the way this band was meant to be experienced in this game, crappy upgrade costs or not. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Just wait until next generation when this stuff doesn't transfer over and you have to rebuy everything.
