My god, that means it would launch on... the 19th! How about that?

My copy of Portal 2 is decrypting on Steam right now.

Oh goodie, I spent half the day downloading this on my Mac only to find out my OS is too old. Lion needs to come out already.

So far, this game is awesome  Love the Stephen Merchant voiced robot at the very beginning.

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

I'm sure people have already finished it, but I'm avoiding spoilers. I only got up an hour early to play, so I have no idea how far I am yet, other than "Chapter 2".

glassdragon 04-19-11 09:22 AM

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

According to PSLS it is about 10 to 11 hours which is pretty damn good, and that's just for single player, even more if you do co-op.

Ok, forget that site. I can't take the word of a site that has an article that likens buying a used game as piracy.

fumanstan 04-19-11 09:25 AM

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

Yeah, IGN's review mentioned 10 - 12 hours, but I thought that was including the co-op mode. I'm on Chapter 2 as well.

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

I love it so far. I'm just a little into chapter 3. The levels have been fun, and the dialogue is hilarious.

I was having great fun with this game until I reached chapter 6. Now it's starting to drag unfortunately. I just had to turn it off for a bit because it was making me a little dizzy after playing straight for about 5 hours. Seems like a 8ish hour campaign based on how many chapters there are.

"It's recommended we wake up dormant test subjects every three months or so. You've been under...a lot longer. You might have a slight case of serious brain damage. If this alarms you, just try to calm down, or, better yet, hold on to that feeling, as it is the proper response to being told you have brain damage."

Yeah, but remember that the first game had that last level or two that went on and on and on...

 Yeah, that was odd. You breeze through the first 18 levels in about 90 minutes and then the last two levels take a couple hours.

I bought a PS3 copy this morning. I tried to redeem the Steam code while at work, but it gave me an error, as I kind of expected. You definitely need to link your PSN account to your Steam account before you can redeem the code. The instructions pretty much say that, but it was worth a shot. :) Guess I have to wait until 6pm tonight.

Yeah, someone at CAG posted that

Weird. That's not the error I got (it wasn't nearly as detailed)... I'll try again when I get home though, after running the PS3 copy, of course.

A lot of people on NeoGAF have beaten the game and most are reporting in the 6-8 hour range.

Did you get PS3 or 360 pinata?

pinata242 04-19-11 03:51 PM

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

360 because Steam doesn't interest me as much as the controller and friends to play with.

They have different expiration dates too, by 10 days, so that's weird.

I got the $20 GC email. And I got a $5 price reduction before I was charged, which made the price $49.99.

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

And so we begin, there are a shit ton of portal 2's without the pc code for 40 and a bunch of people selling the code and telling people they just need to rent it to use it.

Dan 04-19-11 08:25 PM

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

I put my PS3 copy up for sale for $40. If someone wants it bad enough and doesn't care about the Steam code, then it's a decent enough discount. Hell, I'd probably let it go for $30.

I know you can change the controls, but the default triggers are R1 and L1 on the dual-shock. It's like they're trying to make it worse. ;)

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

I put in about 3 hours tonight and I'd guess I'm a third to half-way through. 6-8 hours sounds about right. Gonna finish this up before I even attempt co-op and maybe even do a second run to clean up achievements. This is the first game in a long time (only?) that I'm playing without having looked at the achievement list. It's so much more fun.

Fantastic so far....though the puzzles have been on the easy side...not sure how much I got left, but I am about 2-3 hours in and I am on chapter 7...

If the coop can deliver, Dead Space 2 finally has competition for game of the year...

Could be worse, they could use those ridiculously springy R2/L2 buttons.

(I hate FPS gaming on the Dual Shock, but it actually isn't bugging me with Portal 2)

Love that

I laughed so hard at some of those lines. I wanted to go back and show my wife, but this game doesn't seem to have an easy way to repeat certain levels unless you manually create new saves frequently.

I've had a few points so far where I couldn't figure out exactly what I was supposed to do to move on or how I was supposed to do it. Way more stumpers than the first game. I've resisted the urge to look for outside help so far.

Love all the dialogue so far - definitely on par with the first game. I'm going to need another playthrough just to listen to everything I missed the first time.

I was happy when I got to the

test chamber with

an old friend,

the companion cube. I was especially happy when I realized

that I'd be able to get to the exit with it.

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

Sometimes it takes longer to get back into thinking with portals than I'd like to admit. There was one part right after the "surprise" where I was stuck for about 10 minutes trying to figure it out. Because I was just stupid

Spoiler:
The room where you drop down and there's a turret off in the distance and a vertical light bridge you can move around as a shield. I kept trying to make a bridge across the gap to get over to the button and it took forever for me to just make a portal over there because I kept thinking I needed to leave the one on the ceiling to move the bridge around.

I really felt dumb after that.

GoVegan 04-20-11 10:50 AM

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

Ha! I did the exact same thing with that level. I think all the other spots where I was temporarily stuck I thought the puzzle was really clever or difficult, but that was a definite "duh" moment.

Just finished up. I had a blast going through it. It took me 8-9 hours total. Got stuck about 3 times where I really was having trouble figuring out what to do next.
