In Just Cause 2 for fun you can:
Do missions, blow things up, fly planes, drive boats, fly choppers, drive cars and motorcycles, grapple stuff, and shoot things/people, and look for hidden items. It's all the same type of fun.
RDR you can:
Do missions, play poker/blackjack, play liars dice, play horseshoes, hunt bounties, ride a train, ride a stagecoach, ride a steamship, ride a horse, lasso people, shoot people, punch people, stab people, hogtie people, hunt animals, pick flowers, find treasure, herd cattle, arm wrestle, watch silent movies, find random encounters/missions... and I didn't even mention online.
Don't get me wrong, JC2 is a great game. But I was bored with it in a week and a half. I got to around 70% complete.
I loved Just Cause 2, but I really, after only 5 hours into the single player, have no way of saying if Red Dead is better...I have a feeling that this game is just going to get better and better, while I found Just Cause 2 got a little thin at the end.....This game has a lot of meat to it, while I found Just Cause to be more candy...
Some of these early missions have already had more emotional weight than anything this year outside of Mass Effect 2....
WTF with dying in water...really though...

Oh and I agree with the water issue. What gives, Rockstar? Would it have killed you to at least let the main character float?
No way. It was alot of fun. GTA IV (and especially the DLC) was more fun, though. I know a ton of people here would disagree.
Oh and let me say again. Horse controls = teh suk.

What is with Rockstar and not letting the characters swim. I mean it took until San Andreas where the guy could even touch water and not melt like a fucking witch.

What the hell...you can't swim?
This is way too glitchy right now. It's either I'm invisible, my donkey is invisible, my gun is invisible or all of the above. And whenever I'm in a free roam session, there's only ever 1 or 2 people with me. I try to make it towards them but they log out.

Rockstar Fixing "Invisibility" Red Dead Redemption Bug
Tons of gamers are enjoying Red Dead Redemption following its release earlier this week, but it looks like more than a few are having their experience hampered by some screwy glitches. Gamers are reporting issues, particularly in multiplayer games, where a player's gun, horse, or even entire character disappears from the screen. Now Rockstar says (via Kotaku) they're aware of the issues and are working to resolve them.
"[We're] really happy with how well Red Dead Redemption has been received by the community on both platforms so far. We're aware of the issues some people are experiencing on multiplayer and we're working hard to fix them," a Rockstar rep said. "If you're having issues please email [email protected]. We are also actively on the forums helping people with any questions they may have about the game. Thank you all for your support and we look forward to getting a fix out as soon as we can."
There are already various YouTube videos documenting these glitches, which would probably be a lot funnier if they weren't so annoying for players who just bought their brand-new $60 game. In addition to disappearing horses and characters, some players have also reported being attacked by invisible cougars.
Rockstar didn't specify when they expect a patch to be ready, but until then, maybe just pretend your horse is invisible because it's actually a unicorn so magnificent it's impossible for the human mind to perceive?

For those that ordered from Amazon, has anyone gotten their $20 credit yet? Seems like it should have been sent out by now, but I haven't received one.

So when are the XB360 Cowboys and Gals going to form a posse? I'm good most nights after 10pm CT with some advance notice.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!
I preferred Saints Row 2 to GTA4. Mostly because of the interruptions. I just wanted to play the game and not have NPCs getting angry when i didn't drop my mission to do things for them.
Now if suddenly in RDR Bonnie starts sending me smoke signals that she wants to meet for a spirited game of horseshoes and then she stops talking to me or sending me horses when i need them because i ignored her... then we'll talk.
Also, the not swimming thing is stupid i agree.

Golden Guns codes only seem to be going for a few bucks now, by the looks of it? EDIT: Nevermind, one just went for $10. For that much, after eBay and PP fees, I'll probably just give my extras out here...

So what's the story on the Best Buy war horse? Does it actually make a difference in the game? And how does it work, is it always going to be available at your residence when you need a horse or what?

I was gonna drop this, but you're just being ridiculous, seemingly for the sake of it.
RDR definitely trumps it online, mostly due to JC2 not having any online. But everything you listed above for JC2 is more fun and stays fun for longer than most of the stuff you listed for RDR. Horseshoes! Pick Flowers!! YAY!!!
You neglect to mention how 70% of JC2 is about 70 hours of game play - yeah, you got bored of that real quick...
I'll be surprised if I put half as many hours into the single-player of RDR before it gets boring.

Do missions, blow things up, fly planes, drive boats, fly choppers, drive cars and motorcycles, grapple stuff, and shoot things/people, and look for hidden items. It's all the same type of fun.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!
I started that exciting "Pick Flowers for Some Old Coot's Old Hag" mission and finally had to stop and ask myself what the hell I was doing picking flowers -- sounds more like a Wii minigame. I'm trying to be a nice person in this game but people are already starting to get on my nerves. So far I've been pissed on and when flower-fetching, yee-haw!
As for the 360 posse, I hope there are some other West Coasters as I'm rarely online before 2AM EST.

Also a few more questions...
1: In the Free Roam, does the difficulty or at least number of enemies in a Gang Hideout increase the more people you have attacking it? I ask, because I took them all out by myself, and usually only died once, or in some cases never died...so I am hoping it gets harder, as 8 guys would tear through them to easy...
2: I read that if you want to do the animal wave hunt thing, you just need to level up your hunter skill until named animals pop up...does it only need one person in a posse to have that leveled up to start one of these missions, or does everyone need to be there, and does the special named animals respawn?
3: The social club seems to be adding an almost MMO challenge all the time...anyone try that out? It seems like it might have some missions in it, more structured, which is what some people are wanting in free roam..

When I did hideout takeovers last night with two other people we had to kill several men. We had to eliminate all of the men in the hideout as well as a few innocent whores. After that was done they would send at least one or more rounds of reinforcements that you had to kill. We all died a couple of times during each takeover as some of the men were good shots and would kill us from 70+ yards away. I think it does get harder with more people in.
