Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Loving it so far. I will say it starts off pretty slow. I actually started skipping the latter parts of some cutscenes because I just wanted to PLAY.

I agree w/the poster above: Just play it and let the chips fall where they may. You'll go crazy trying to make it go just a certain way in a wide-open game like this. I accidentally bumped into a guy and he started punching me. I didn't yet know how to punch, so I pulled out my gun and, well, next thing it's GTA in the Wild West, law chasing me on my horse, jumping over fences and heading out into the open range w/a bounty on my head. Oh well~

I get the intent, I just don't like it. And I certainly don't imagine that you have to do them all, and do them the right way, to get full honor. But I want to.

Yeah, I'm trying to "let go" a little and go with the flow. Maybe it comes from playing Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 a lot lately...I want clear-cut paragon and renegade choices, dammit!

When in the wilderness you can go to your inventory screen, choose the Kit tab, set up a camp, and save on the bedroll in camp.

I wish i had known that last night when i replayed 2 hours of game because i screwed up a mission that i didn't want to screw up and reloaded an old save.
Thanks! I'll try that. I knew that item was in my inventory and I sorta kinda knew its purpose, but I hadn't really tried it out yet and didn't realize it would offer a save option. I had also assumed it was a one-use item, since I saw others for sale in shops. Maybe those are just upgrades, though.

I had the same thing almost happen to me. I was about to start shooting the two law men when I noticed the stars on their vests. That was the only indication of what was actually going on. I love this game.

I was just going to pull my gun and

make him hand it over, but when I did he started firing away at me so I had to take him out. I felt pretty bad about that and the deed I got was covered in blood.

That said, I always end up taking the high road in games like Bioshock and Mass Effect and I'm determined to take the low road this time around.

If anyone has an extra Golden Guns code for the PS3 and doesn't mind sending it along, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Has anyone done a bounty mission yet? I did my first this morning. I shot the idiot in the leg, hogtied him and raced back to town. Little did I know that his boys would be chasing me down and it didn't help that my horse was lame. I fended off three separate attacks just to get back into town.

Has anyone purchased the rabbit's foot in the General Store? I'm curious if it dramatically improves looting. I can't wait to find the Thieves store as well to purchase my suit to cheat at Poker.

Yep, the bounty missions just get harder and harder. More guys chase you down for the bounty each time.

This game just keeps on impressing me though. The blackjack and poker are a lot of fun.

For a fun time, go to a bar and just order drink after drink.

I just did a mission and oh boy was that epic. That was awesome for being so early into the game. The baddies did some horrible things, and I really felt anger towards them and really wanted to take them all down.

I'm also rockin' a duster now, which is quite awesome.

I just did the Mine Cart mission. ZOMG the end sequence needed to be much longer!

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

I played this way too late into the night yesterday. Now I'm exhausted at work.

Everything about this game oozes quality. Visually it is the most stunning game I've played. Those sunsets are amazing, and the thunder storms are bone ratteling. The sheer variety of experience is pretty staggering. I love the random events, the mini-games (Poker is quality), the NPC behaviors (especially the guys that ride off trail to go pee behind a rock). The characters are all very well developed, with clear and distinct personalities and histories.

Some fun random events last night. I rented the room at the Armadillo saloon. After saving I went out onto the balcony the next morning. A group of four bandits rolled into down, firing their weapons and causing trouble. I got out my rifle and dead-eyed them, one shot to each of their heads. They all fell in a matter of seconds. Pretty satisfying.

Also had more fun with my favorite item, the lasso. A shopkeeper comes out complaining about a robber. The guy had already gotten pretty far from town by the time I noticed. I chase him down on my horse and lasso the bastard. But instead of tieing him up, I just dragged the poor guy behind my horse the whole way back. Surprised he made it back alive.

Hell, I could spend hours just wandering the enormous world map, hunting and skinning animals as I go. My best catch so far is a cougar, which attacked and killed my horse before I could finish it off.

Wow, sounds like you guys did some awesome stuff already. I've only done the first couple of introductory missions, but am liking the game.

I got my golden guns email from Amazon this morning, but no GC yet.

The Theives Landing or whatever is marked on the map. It's the little island in the lower right corner. I picked up my suit last night. I prefer it to the basic costume. Very 'Deadwood'. The Tailor is located right near the doctor. You need to walk near the building before the vendor shows up on your map.

There was like 10 people at TRU that I saw. They all were buying RDR. Well one dude wanted Alan Wake. That is if TRU had it.

Same here. I just gave it to a buddy that didn't order from Amazon.

Which one? Who gives it?

Damn, I had already given mine away. I'll give you one if they send me another.

I had a funny thing happen while playing Poker. There were five of us, and after three people busted out, it was down to me and this black guy with a funny hat. I forget his name, but he was good. He kept getting really good hands, and cleaned me out even when I thought I had the hand to beat.

So I was pissed, and shot him. I get a prompt that says "You can now buy the suit to cheat at Poker."

One thing that confuses me. I am attacked by a posse or bandits or whatever, and they send a dog after me. I shoot it, and lose honor. What am I supposed to do, let him chew on me for awhile? Would that be the honorable thing to do?

The lasso comes from the woman rancher missions. After the last one with her father you get a lasso.

Thanks! I'll check that out tonight. What does it give you in regards to poker? An Ace up your sleeve?

I'll admit it now: I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to decipher the first treasure map. Hopefully the rest of them go a little smoother for me.

I can't imagine how difficult it was. They really don't give you much more than a picture.

Yeah, $2 per.

I had about six and then fell on the ground

Supposedly nicer camp sites (that you upgrade from the stores) will just restock more of your ammo. I will assume they will also look cooler. Maybe have an espresso machine or something.

I hear that in the most expensive camp site, you open it up and a midget whore pops out.

Same here - although i still haven't puzzled it out. I assumed the first map would be for some place nearby (to act more like a tutorial) and i still never found it. Reminds me of some of the failed attempts at finding geocaches.

I consoled myself by shooting a bunch of hawks.
