I'm considering selling my 60gb console, in order to upgrade(?) to a Slim. I've put ads up on Craigslist and Kijiji, but I just asked for (serious) offers. What type of price do you think I should try to get for it? I've honestly used it very little - maybe 100-130 hours. I'm a 360 addict. It's dusted regularly and comes from a non-smoking home.

I never use the extra features that my console has and would prefer to get something new, with a bigger harddrive.

Great condition 60gbs are getting around $300 on ebay. So I'd ask for $350 and expect to negotiate down to $300. It always helps if you have the box as well.

Thanks for your help. I've seen prices all over the map from $130-$3,200 (for a sealed launch day unit on Ebay. Insane...)

It's in phenomenal condition. I'm a clean freak and take great care of my stuff. Plus, it's barely used.

I have the original box. I also have all of the stuff it came with including its ethernet cable, still unopened (not that they're really worth much.) I'm thinking about asking for $350 and throwing in a set of component cables I bought for it and don't need. They were around $50 and barely used because I switched to HDMI.

Hell, if it's in that great of condition and you have the box and everything it originally came with, I'd start at $400, with the mention of the free $50 cables. And then prepare to work down to $350. But I'd do it soon before E3 starts up because who knows what (if anything) will be announced there that could change someone's desire for a 60gb.

Also, I sold my 60gb a year back for $400.

Hmm...this new gadget allows mouse and keyboard support in all PS3 games. Looks interesting, and would certainly make some FPS games a bit more playable. Wonder how/if they allow remapping keys to different functions. I know people have many different key combinations they use for certain actions in the PC gaming world. Price seems a bit high at $60 though.

Interesting.

I've been using the Frag FX for a while which is a similar concept with a mouse on the right but on the left is a "nunchuck" type of controller for movement. Definitely better than a Dual Shock for me, but still not quite as fluid as a true mouse/keyboard combo. I might check this out.

My friend's PS3 had the dreaded YLOD. What does he has to do in order to transfer his PSN ID to his new PS3? Does he have to pay for anything? He end it up creating a new PSN ID but he still would like to have his old one back.

I think he just has to sign in on his new one and all the trophies will be on there, but not the save game data or anything like that. Also he should deactivate his psn on the broken ps3.(if he can)

Unfortunately he can't deactivate the PS3 if he doesn't get it working again, since it has to be done on the console itself. Maybe try calling someone from Sony and see if they can do it on their end? It shouldn't be a problem anyway unless he's sharing games. If he was sharing games with 4 others, he'll have to buy them again, unless he can convince one of them to deactivate his PS3 and lose those games. (This is a big reason why I don't do it.)

The trophies will be there up to when they were last synced to Sony's servers. He may lose the most recent ones if he hasn't looked at them for a while.

Sony can do this if you call them. They basically deactivate all the machines your account is associated with, and you can reactivate. This way you don't lose one of your activations to a dead PS3.

Anyone here had luck replacing the lens in their PS3 Blu-Ray drive (40gb fat)? Mine took a shit, won't read any discs I put in. The system works fine otherwise (demos, music files, etc), just wondering if the replacement lenses really work or if I'm wasting my money...

I replaced mine a month or two ago (also a 40GB fatty) and it has worked like a charm so far. The laser cost me $52 on ebay from seller gadgetressurection. I used Marine Mike's tutorial in the "PS3 Laser Replacement" thread on Blu-ray.com as a guide. It is a pretty involved process, but as long as you follow each step to a T and keep track of all your screws, it's not too bad.

Be aware that you'll need a Torx Security screwdriver (the kind with a small dimple in the tip) to get into your PS3. I can't remember what size, but I can check after work. I was able to pick up the right screwdriver head at Ace for just a couple of bucks.

Thanks, I've actually had it apart to clean the lens and ruled that out, but no go still. Replacing the part is next, hopefully that will work. Good to hear yours has held up after fixing so far, I'm not sure what else to do to keep it from happening again - I keep it clean and cool

I don't think there's anything you can do to prevent a failed laser. The lasers don't seem to fail from any particular usage pattern or conditions. My 40GB laser failed after two years of only light use (about 40 BDs watched and 2 games played). It was kept on an open shelf in a temperature-controlled, air-purified room. When I opened it up to replace the laser, there was no dust to speak of anywhere inside my unit and I'd never heard the fan spin up at any time. Anecdotally, the laser in my brother-in-law's 40GB fatty failed after about 9 months. He had played through something like 6 or 7 games and had only watched a few movies.

It seems to be intermittent failure simply from shoddy hardware. Hopefully these replacement lasers are more stable than the stock ones, but who knows.

Sounds almost identicle to my conditions, PS3 is about 2.5yrs old now. Hopefully I'll be back up and running soon, the old west is calling me!

Thanks for the info, that helped considerably.

Never mind, I found the reason.
PSN To Suffer Downtime Today As A Result Of Maintenance
Written Wednesday, June 09, 2010 by Dan Webb

A mere 6 days before Sony announces - or reannounces, as the case maybe - their new products to the world at their E3 press conference, Sony have said the PSN will suffer some downtime today as a result of some "regular scheduled maintenance." Whether the two are directly associated yet remains to be seen, but if we're being honest, it's too close to E3 to call it "regular scheduled maintenance."

Patrick Seybold stated on the PS Blog that "maintenance is expected to start at 8am Pacific and will last for several hours, until approximately 8:30pm Pacific." - that's 4:30pm GMT for those interested, until, yes, you guessed it, 4:30am GMT.

What's closed you ask? Woah, wait a minute. We're getting to that.

Seybold continued, "During this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store or Account Management, and may encounter some difficulty while signing in to PSN." So yeah, that's pretty much most of it down then.

No multiplayer gaming or online PSN shopping tonight it seems then, why not read a book... or curl into a ball and sleep till it's back up.

yeah, I was freaked out last night, thought somebody hacked into my account. How hard would it been to have been able to post the site down message on their PSN Store page?

There was a message up in the top right corner of your screen in the news section (if you have that function turned on). Once your PS3 attempted to connect to the PSN via auto-login or however you have it set, the news was populated with the info that PSN was down.
