Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

I don't think removing the game when you shut it off is important unless you have a 60 or 20GB system. The later models have that drive test function (where the fans sound like a vacuum cleaner) to eject the game.

I assume what chess is getting at by recommending removing the disc is so that when the system dies on you, you don't have to worry about having a $60 game stuck in the drive you may never see again.

Yeah, and a good chunk of those that have those fat systems that still work want to act like we did something wrong and got the the YLOD rather than there being a system problem. Their day is coming and frankly I can't wait. I've had two different 60s get the YLOD within a year. Both of them barely had two years of use when they got it and I took care of both of them.

Sure, but the later models can eject the game even in the case of YLOD.

But YLOD aside aren't some of the failures due to the drive getting stuck?

Unfortunately I don't have another blu-ray player around so I can't test my disc to be 100% sure.
having the same problem. WTF....!!

This was happening with my original 60 gig before it died. Good luck.

As far as I know, the two biggest problems with the PS3 are YLOD and Blu-ray drive laser failure. With the laser failure, you can still eject the disc - it just won't read it.

Note to self...backup PS3. MY 60GB (320GB) is still running strong. I believe I got it right around launch.

Can you eject the disc on a PS3, but just leave it sitting how it spits it out or does it automatically suck it back in over time?

I don't feel that way personally. I've been through Sony hardware issues before with the original Playstation that had to be used upside down and I had 3 PS2s have DVD drive failure. My PS3 is over its 3 year mark and I know I have a timebomb there. I hardly use it anymore and its mainly because its out of warranty and I don't want to deal with the cost and decision of fixing it or getting a slim. I game 90% of the time now on my 360 and will use my LG for Blu-rays whenever possible. I know the 360 is a timebomb as well, but it still has close to 2 years on its 3 red light warranty so I'm not as worried about it.

You guys are making me nervous. It has been a long time since I've played a PS3 game but I use my PS3 almost every day, my daughters watch their Disney blu-ray movies there. And my 4 years old is at the age that she needs to watch every movie 500 times...

Has anyone had problems with the Blu-ray remote? I bought mine maybe 2 years ago and it just stopped working this weekend. I changed the batteries and it's still not turning on. I've never dropped it on the ground or done anything to it so I don't understand why it just stopped working all of a sudden.

Wishing system failures on others is bad karma. Sorry you've suffered some failures, but that doesn't give you license to be a douche.

I had that problem plus a problem syncing my controllers as well. Powering off the system at the switch, then restarting with the controller plugged into the USB port seemed to do the trick. I might not be telling the full procedure, but I posted it in this forum just a couple of pages back.

edit: here's my original solution:

You then turn on the plugged in controller and assign it by pressing the PS button. Using the controller you turn the system off, then back on. Problem solved, but I'll be damned if I know why. The first controller worked instantly, as did the remote. Using the same technique I was able to reassign the sixaxis as well. Strange, but effective.

It does when the same pricks are the ones that blame me for my 60s failing and act like they're doing something right with theirs and singing Sony's praises. What's going to happen to me? A third YLOD? Been there and done that.

Okay, maybe you can be a douche to those people, but I haven't seen here where anyone is blaming you or anyone else but Sony. I wish they would "man up" and take some responsibility. My 60GB is working fine, but I'm certainly nervous about this. Have my profiles and gameshared arcade games backed up on a memory stick. Might do that with a few of my game saves as well.

I wasn't referring to anybody here when I made that statement. However, I have been on more than one board and discussed my YLOD issues to then have the blame of the system failure thrown back on me by several posters. Some people take their love of Sony too far until they get it in the rear from Sony. That is the day that I'm looking forward to so that the smartasses get what is coming to them. On this board people are far more sympathetic when it comes to this issue.

Thanks but I have a PS3 Slim so there's no switch behind the system.

You are certainly correct. Some posters on other sites reuse to admit there is something wrong with the original fats (particularly the 60GB). Sony's refusal to acknowledge it is infuriating. At least DVDTalkers are a more mature bunch.

You're right. Nobody here would post that dsa_shea was directly responsible for his PS3 dying -- I mean, deep down we all know it was his fault, but we're way too tactful to say that. Right????

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Well, it's official. I now live in a three-console household -- I've added the PS3 to my Wii and my 360. I've got 'em all!

Question: It's 2010. Why don't consoles come with component cables?

Anyway, I played a little bit of Drake's tonight. I made it up to Chapter 3. So far I'm enjoying it. Hopefully I'll enjoy it more when I get the video hooked up properly tomorrow and can set my display to 1080 as God intended.
