Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Looking for advice:

I got a slim last month even though there was nothing wrong with my 60GB. I got the 60GB in late 2007 right when they were being phased out. I was thinking about selling it to someone at work who is interested. I was going to include 2 non-Dualshock controllers. It hasn't exhibited any signs of the drive failing and I've used it very regularly for 2.5 years.

What do you guys think would be a fair price for this? I thought $200 but that seems low to me, but slims are only $300. I'm not sure they care about the backwards compatibility.

Any advice is appreciated.

Do they care about SACD or extra USB ports and stuff like that? You might be able to sell it for more on craigslist to people looking specifically for a 60gb.

I've thought about that. With so many early units failing I was leaning against selling to a stranger since in case it does fail I'd have to deal with that. if it was someone I know and it failed not long after the sale I could work it out a little better.

You give people a return policy on Craigslist? Nice guy.

Hehe, I've never sold on CL before. Does selling on CL imply an in-person transaction? I was assuming it would be a Paypal thing, and we all know how much the buyer has a seller over the barrel in Paypal situations.

I've always bought and sold in person and I've always assumed that all sales were final.

Yeah. I'm not trying to cheat the game or looking for the proverbial "WIN" button, but to me watching Kratos, the baddest being in the history of video games, get crushed by a pillar because I wasn't able to tap the X button fast enough is infuriating. It's the most frustrating and arbitrary video game death since Sir Dirk bravely stormed the castle and then immediately plummeted to his death because I didn't hit the left arrow fast enough...or too fast, I'm not sure which.

Cash or USPS money order is what I do. I would personally prefer to sell to someone I wasn't friends with. Because if it does fail, you're friend is gonna bitch about it at work. A random person with a receipt that says "all sales final" and "no guarantee of future performance" or something like that, might send you a nasty email but other than that they have no recourse.

Also, if you want to take a hint from another forum member, they recommend meeting at a bank with a friend to make the sale and watch as they withdraw the money from the bank. That way you can be sure!

Also, bunkaroo, broken 60gb PS3s are selling for close to $200 on ebay. Working ones are going over $300, ones with original boxes even more, brand new ones for $500-$700, etc.

Hmmmm.... I have a working 60 GB and an original, dusty box in the garage. Could upgrade/sidegrade to a Slim for nothing.... That's tempting.....

I've no idea why people are buying 'em with the whole YLOD of issue. I scoffed about it for some time until it happened to me three years in. :(

Ditto. Actually, I have two of them. I've been looking for a reason to upgrade and I never use b/c.

Is there a way to delete your profile off of a PS3 so no info (such as credit card or game history) is accessible by a new owner?

I thought the 60GB PS3's did not have a premium on them anymore? I looked into selling mine, and I noticed that they were selling for a bit less than a new SLIM. If I could sell my 60GB and get a new SLIM for the same price, I might do it. I hav eno desire for PS2 games at this point.

I did exactly that on ebay about 2 months ago. Even after ebay and Paypal fees, I still had enough to pay for my Slim.

Ok, I just checked EBAY and it seems like they range from $250-$500....pretty wide range for a 60GB. I wonder if I put mine up with a 320GB HDD if it would fetch a premium?!? Hmmmmm....the only downside would be transferring all my stuff to the new one. I believe I would lose all my GAMESHARE stuff, which is not a BIG deal, but could suck.

If you do a data transfer between the two systems (old 60gb, new Slim) instead of a backup, you won't lose locked game saves. I did that and also still have the Gameshare games on my XMB.

Of course, I haven't tried to play them since I transfered. But, I would hope if they install to the XMB, they're still good to go.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I still have the box. Looks like it's time to polish the old girl up, get her boxed up and profit! :)

I actually put a 250GB in it but was thinking about putting the 60GB in before the sale in case I ever want to use the 250 in my slim.

Hmm... I didn't see many getting more than $200-$250. After fees, Paypal and Ebay, you'd probably need another $100 or so out of pocket to get a slim. I'm still tempted to sell mine because if and when the YLOD comes, I'm gonna be pissed!

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

I'm actually surprised it took them so long. I wonder if Microsoft will respond? They both can only go so far, right? ;)

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/ps...and-wednesday/

Do you sometimes get jealous of your Xbox-owning friends that are able to download demos and DLC a day earlier than you? Don't worry, PS3 fans. Sony has a solution: Release content before Microsoft! Both the American and European PlayStation Store updates are moving to new days, starting in May.

Tuesdays become the new day for PSN updates in North America
, as recently explained by Pulse's Christina Lee. In Europe, content will be updated on Wednesday, as explained by SCEE's Mike Kebby.

While this may seem like terrific news for PlayStation fans, we're pretty certain this is how the time wars begin. With Sony pushing earlier, Microsoft will have no choice but to retaliate by sending Major Nelson back in time to assassinate the unborn Kevin Butler! Don't worry, though. We're pretty certain he knows how to travel through time as well.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Microsoft will still be first if current releases are the norm. PSN new releases usually appear Thursday night (EST)/afternoon (PST). Microsoft always makes their releases early in the day. And although Microsft used to release most of its stuff on Tuesday, they can make a release any day of the week. In fact, lately some publishers were making Microsoft to make releases on Thurday or Friday so they were out at the same time of the PSN.

So yeah, I don't see Microsoft changing.

Meh, I never had a problem with Thursday updates to begin with. CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays usually come out on Tuesday to begin with, along with a lot of high-profile games. There's plenty to keep me distracted on Tuesday as-is.

Does the data transfer disable the content from one PS3 and move it to the other? I know you are allowed to use your content on 5 PS3's, but I believe you could disable (not sure if that is the right word) and then you would get your "share" back essentially.

I'm almost thinking ahead too, just in case I ever get a YLOD...

Chew 04-16-10 08:04 AM

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

The data transfer is a "cut/paste" rather than a "copy/paste", so the data is completely wiped on the first PS3.

As for number of shares, I can't speak to that.

DJ_Longfellow 04-16-10 09:55 AM

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Sorry...disable was the wrong word. It is DEACTIVATE. Technically, if you change systems you should DEACTIVATE your account. In theory, if you fail to do that and your PS3 dies 5 times, the 6th time you would lose all your content that you purchased....I believe that is the 5 times rule.

I was wondering what most of you guys use in regards to your PS3 background (themes/wallpapers)? Is the only way to get themes through the PSN store?

I currently have MLB The Show Blue Jays theme but I'm getting bored of it and want to switch to something else.
