I'm not sure if it requires logging into home or not, although I did log in after seeing this post, but then when I googled for more info I saw that people were getting the game via message from PS Plus in their PS3 inbox. So I went there and sure enough Flying Hamster was waiting.

So if you're PS Plus and you don't have the email, try loading home and then see if it pops up.

Actually, it's considerably better than previously. I hadn't been there in over a year. It's still pretty lame, but it's much quicker now and not as terrible as before (faint praise, indeed). Currently, there's a Killzone turret game that you can play to earn Killzone 3 rewards. Unfortunately it has totally inverted controls that can't be changed and I can't get my head around. To get the full game reward you need to unlock all the rewards including a perfect Wave 3 score. When I saw that, I just quit.

The Wave 3 one was actually easier than the Wave 2 one. But to get the perfect score you only have to kill the people who are aiming at you. So you can wait it out until you get the signal that someone is about to attack you. I did that one on my second try I believe.

I think Pinata was talking about how when you play a game after a long time, or for the first time, you have to download every patch ever released, if it's a new game, or released since the last time you played. For example, you have to wait at least 2 hours if you want to play Pain for the first time.

I bought the first chapter of Blue Toad Murder Files. It took forever to download since PSN is so slow and then when I boot the game it has to download a 349MB update before we can play. This is the kind of stuff that kills me about Playstation.

However, Playstation Plus has been amazing and makes up for my other issues with the PS3. I have gotten many times the value out of it already and still have most of my membership to go. We are getting free Genesis games next so the value of Plus is almost impossible to believe. I pay $35 a year for Live and never play online and really only use my Gold for sales. Plus is made for people like me, but gives a much better value for the money.

Also PS+ members are gonna get 4 or 5 free Sega games next month. Normal people get them for $4.99 each.

"get" is too strong a word. They'll have access to them, one at a time, for a few weeks until the next one takes its place. Better than nothing, but not a lot better than nothing. Much better off picking up the Sega Sonic Collection disc.

Thanks for the Heroes on the Move heads-up. I want to play that demo.

I still don't get the "value" of PS +. Maybe it's because I haven't been paying much attention, but I haven't seen anything that would make it worth the price so far.

You have to look at how it adds up over the course of a year. It's often a buck or two here, a buck or two there. If you're looking at one or two discounts to justify it, you may be disappointed. Although, the complete Sam and Max game and Stacking are worth big chunks of that $50.

It's not for everyone, though. I wouldn't recommend it to those who use the PS3 mainly for movies and/or a few games like Uncharted.

I said this before -- it's kind of like the "All You Can Eat" Pavillion at Dodger Stadium. Sure you can get your money's worth if you try, but the question you should ask is would you really have spent $35 on food during the game if you weren't sitting there? Likewise with PS+, it's not 'will you download $50 worth of stuff in a year' (no doubt you will), but rather 'are you getting $50 worth of stuff you would have actually paid money for'? For me, it took a while since they kept giving away games I had already bought. Now I'm far more careful with PSN purchases and I'm getting better value out of the deal. When you figure that you still can get 15 months for $50, that works out to $3.33 a month. If you find one game given away every other month, you're coming out ahead. Add in discounts and free themes (which are really kind of cool actually -- I'm so sick of my few 360 premium themes by comparison) and I can't imagine any gamer not coming out ahead unless he or she continues to buy everything at full price on release. Just don't expect to get your money's worth in the first month. It'll take a while to get there.

I've easily come out ahead on PS+, and that's with only downloading things I'm interested in.

Maybe I was wrong about that. I read that somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Reading Joystiq, here is what they said:

The latest venue for the same set of Genesis ports seen everywhere else is the PlayStation 3's PlayStation Network, which adds another console to the system's retro roster. Sega is releasing them all for free to PlayStation Plus members for a limited time, starting with the March 1 release of Sonic the Hedgehog, which is free to Plus members through April 5. Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe 2, Comix Zone, and Altered Beast will all follow on the day the previous game is removed.

Those without Plus will have to wait for the opportunity to buy these Genesis games for $4.99 each: Sonic won't hit the normal PSN store until March 29, with the other games showing up around a month apart. You could wait for that, or you could get the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection disc, which has all of these games and 42 more for ... $16.79.

Yeah. The way I read that was once Sonic is no longer a free download that they'll then offer the next one. But it could also be read it's a one month license. The official blog post reads the same way:

As a special gift and exclusive offer for our PlayStation Plus subscribers, the upcoming games (an almost $30 value) will be available two weeks early and free for one month each to download. To kick off the event, Sonic the Hedgehog will be available a full four weeks early on March 1 to PlayStation Plus subscribers!

Get them and play the shit out of them and if after the supposed one month you need more time with one title then buy it. I doubt anyone on here is pining to have all of those titles on their PS3 for an eternity. I just bought a Plus membership last week and have already taken advantage of over 20 dollars in game value. Hell, it would have cost 15 bucks alone to purchase Stacking and I would have paid it. Now, it is unlikely that I will be playing that game a year from now as I've already got 100% on it. In the end it was cost effective for me to get Plus and use it to obtain that game and the many more that will come over the next several months.

I can't get the Nav controller to work with the demo at all. It's not my Nav that's malfuntioning; it works for other games and works when I use it to exit out of the demo. Anyone else try the demo? Did it work for you?

Yesterday I got a new 500GB HDD for my PS3 slim. After doing all the reformatting and re-installing of the OS (didn't have to do this when I upgraded my fatty), I got to do the data transfer. Since at first it said it was to take 4 hours and 45 minutes (and a few minutes later it said it'd take 5 hours and 29 minutes), I went to bed and let them do their thing. I woke up at 4:20AM to find that the data transfer completed successfully. Much to my surprise, the data transfer did not wipe the HDD of my fat PS3 (despite the manual and on screen instructions insisting that it would) even though all the data is now also present on my slim. I'm not complaining, however. :D

I know I have gotten way more than $50 of value and I still have a long way to go. I was able to get games I wanted like Wipeout HD, Sam and Max season 3, Shatter, Stacking and Burn, Zombie Burn for free. Many of the minis they have offered for free were also very good and a few good PSone games. They have also given other discounts and free DLC that I have used. Even just thinking of the free games as extended rentals the $50 for 15 months has been a bargain for me. I get a lot more out of it than my Live subscription.

The quests are really helpful, but you get ten points for every new new game you put in there. I had a backlog of games that I hadn't played yet so I opened them all up, popped them in, it sent the unique code into Sony, and I jumped up a whole level because of that. Now I just wish they'd give discounts in the store or something.

Where does it show how may points you need for the next status level? I see the bar that says "Progress to Select" but it never seems to move although I did some of the quest last week (Pulse/Home/Sodium) and it shows I completed them.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Okay, I tried a search and couldn't find anything conclusive. Today my PS3 just stopped reading discs altogether. I just got Dead Space 2 and put it in, it started fine, but when I got to the new game it froze up. When I finally got back into the main system it didn't see the disc at all. I kicked it out, popped it back in, nothing. Powered the system down and back on, tried a Blu Ray movie. Nothing.

I finally got it to see discs again, but now it freezes trying to load up games... not a total freeze as I can get back into the main PS3 screen by exiting. It's a fat 160Gb, for what it's worth, and I've barely played it. This is only the fourth game that I've put in it, in addition to maybe 3 Blu ray movies I've watched on it.

Is this a common problem? What are my options?

I'm in exactly the same boat (and Sodium totally sucked, BTW).
