That's not actually a quote from me, and I rolled my eyes at that particular part myself. But the rest holds true.

Seems pretty clear to me. "Passed" = after that date.

Yeah, Sony jumped the gun. The only Welcome Back page they left up is the one for extra discounts for those who already have Playstation+.

Lawsuit? Really? Now that is funny.

Honestly you take this chance by waiting until the last minute. I logged on and got mine the first day. A lot of people waited for the ps plus month to start later, but that really wasn't an excuse to not get your games, you could have gotten the ps+ at a later time.

Holy shit that sucks, its a good thing I got everything yesterday and the only reason I did it yesterday was because I had to work today and I didnt know how long it would take.

Whew!

Welcome Back Welcome Back Program!

It's now up until Tuesday 9 AM PT.

So go get your shit now.

Don't know if this also applies to European countries and others.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Also apparently if you signed up for PS+ on day one of the Welcome back program, your 30 days are up and... you can sign back up for another 30 days with the WB deadline extension.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Tetris is on sale for $5 with the PSN + account. I just spent 3 hours playing the vs modes online. Good value for those who like tetris.

Was gonna grab it today but they updated the PSN store really early. Oh well.

Speaking of, here's today PS+ update:

•Bomberman ULTRA (Free with Plus, a $9.99 value)
•Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar (Free and Exclusive Plus)
•Medievil PS one title (Free with Plus, a $5.99 value)
•Alien Zombie Death mini (Free with Plus, $3.99 value)
•MotorStorm Apocalypse Outlaw Vehicle Pack (PlayStation Plus price $1.99; a 20% discount)

New Release Themes, Avatars and Media
•Mega Man Powered Up – Avatar Bundle (x14) (Plus Exclusive, $1.49)
•PlayStation Plus Clock Dynamic Theme (Free and exclusive to Plus)
•Qore July Episode 38 – Single Episode (Free with Plus, a $2 .99 value)

Also, ALSO! For EVERYONE (not just +ers), they are selling Burnout Paradise: The COMPLETE PACKAGE for only $7.99. That's the full game and all the DLC for only $7.99. If for some reason you haven't gotten this game before, that's a whole lot of awesome playing for under $10.

That's a good deal on Burnout Paradise, I think I'll have to grab it.

 I have Burnout Paradise on the 360 along with some of the DLC... but everything for $7.99?? That's pretty great.

Where do I put in my credit card information?!

tlwizard 07-05-11 03:49 PM

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

So I originally had a post about it being too crazy to be true. And I deleted it because...

Maybe it is.

Reading all the details on the webpage about it, it DOES NOT include all the DLC. Even though they call it "Full Game Plus Bundle (Full Game and Add-On Content)"

It only includes the Boost Special Cars. Still have to buy Big Surf Island and other stuff (although those are marked down to ridiculous prices as well.)

Sorry for jumping the gun and misrepresenting the actual deal.

PM it to me, and I'll take care of the rest. I'm like a travel agent for buying video games.

It's not all the DLC, just Boost Specials and Time Savers pack. Still worth it IMO

I was still able to get the Playstation Plus trial yesterday, July 4. I can't really tell what I'm getting that's a "Plus" experience, though. Anyone want to help me out on that one?

Thanks. I figured that out with my followup post.

Besides discounts and some free stuff and access to betas, you also can save your games to the cloud as a backup or to transfer to other ps3s as well as auto-download of games patches, firmware updates, etc.

I didn't think I'd have buyer's remorse paying $7.99 for a well-reviewed full game in a series where I've enjoyed previous installments. Burnout Paradise has proven me wrong. :(

Really? Why is that?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Everything is based around an open world concept. Instead of having a user-friendly menu where you simply choose what race you want to do, you drive to an intersection and spin your wheels. And if you haven't raced there before you won't even know what sort of race/challenge you're going to get until you actually go there.

And how about car customization? In a normal game you have a menu driven "Garage" where you pick out your car, choose the color, and off you go! Burnout: Paradise is a little different. First, you drive to a "junkyard" to get your car. Then you have to find a paint shop to paint it. Want to choose a color? Nope, sorry. It's random! Want to fix your car? You have to find a ANOTHER location (a garage for that). Want to refill your boost? Yet another location for that!

Basically, there's a lot of unnecessary driving around when a simple menu system would be better. If you've played Fable 3, it's the same idea of taking easy menus and turning them into a tedious "experience".

The races are inside the open world, and nothing is blocked off. So instead of just being able to enjoy the race, look for shortcuts, etc you have to also navigate to the finish line. Not nearly as fun as the races in the previous installments...quite aggravating, in fact.

Also, they got rid of crash mode for some reason. That was my favorite part of Burnout 3. Instead you can try to do damage at random intersections and beat the record...not nearly as fun as the carefully constructed Crash levels they used to have. Looks like that will be corrected in the upcoming "Lobster Monster" game.

The actual driving and crash mechanics are still fun, and look great in HD. It's the wrapper around everything that I hate.

That sums up all of my, and other people's, complaints perfectly, people who are huge fans of Burnout, but felt slighted with Paradise and it's open-world approach. I do have to admit that they did help things when they patched on the quick-restart option in the menu - before that, if you fucked up a race, you had to quit then drive back to the start. But that was patched months after the game had bee out - too little too late. The last Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, which was by Criterion, while very tough and frustrating, and nowhere near the greatness of older Burnouts, felt more like a Burnout game than Paradise did.
