I hope I can. The restore has been running for close to an hour now. It's only at 40% and has started to make some intermittent weird noises. Eek, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I cringe every time I hear that noise.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone end up doing that free year of identify theft protection that Sony was offering from the hack?

Still is. It's extended and now running through the end of July.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Well the past day and a half has been a nightmare. My PS3 finally got up and running for about 20 minutes, which allowed me to upload some games off there. It then crashed again and began a cycle of 20 minutes working and then an hour or hour and a half of restoring the file system to get it working again. Each time it started working more and more data was corrupt and the less and less time I was able to have to get stuff off of there. I managed to get all but one of my important saves and luckily was able to get all of my girlfriend's saves.

Those Dragon Age saves at 11mb a pop are a bitch. After uploading all my important saves (the full 150mb of PS+ allotted), I tried to copy the rest of my saves to a USB drive, but those Dragon Age ones were so big and took up so much time and it was while trying to save those that the system finally crashed for the last time.

I tried to use the backup feature but to no avail. I also wish they had a "copy all saves" function. Going one by one was painful.

Now to see if Sony will cover/replace the hard drive or what that experience is going to be. At least I was able to get my most important saves off there.

I did. I recall seeing a monthly "report" from them as well. My only concern is they might try to re-up my membership after one year and they'll tell me that I owe them money.

They will. The info said it will auto renew unless you cancel.

So you have to give them your CC info up front?

I didn't have to give them my cc info.

That's BS... borderline scam in my opinion.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Sorry, I guess I'm missing something then. People were saying it would auto renew if you didn't cancel. But how do they charge you if they don't have your info? Send a bill in the mail and just expect people to pay for something they didn't order? If so, that's BS.

It doesn't auto renew. It'll just end if you don't re-up. No worries, mine ended just like that.

I think you're talking about the PS+ and they're talking about the credit monitoring

I'll try to dig up the old email but I remember that being the reason I didn't sign up. It's no surprise; that's how most subscription "free trials" work.

redbill 07-15-11 12:23 PM

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

this isn't a "free trial". its a complimentary 1-year subscription paid for by Sony. You're given a code to enter, no credit-card #

I was just wondering, do you guys think the PS3 will ever patch region-free DVD playback eventually? I was reading online that DVD playback isn't region-free, so I decided to test it out myself on my Australian PS3 as I hadn't up until now.

Two Warner Brothers Region 1 DVD's worked, one United Artists Region 2 DVD worked, but a Sony Region 1 DVD didn't work.

I also posted in the Battlefield Talk (PS3) thread, and I thought I'd toss it out here, too:

Has anyone heard about the First Person Saviors BFBC2 event this weekend to raise donations toward ending hunger in Somalia?

http://firstpersonsaviors.org/

It looks cool and I'll probably play this weekend, though I'm having difficulty figuring out a) how playing the game raises money, b) how to donate money, and c) who I'm donating to and how much will make it to actual food.

Do we have any interest in doing this as a group if we can find answers to my above questions?

Hey, since I don't have a PS3, I thought I would post this up for grabs. On a new bottle of shampoo today, I got a code for MLB 11 the Show. The code says it is good for MLB 11 The Show Challenge of the Week game plays and you enter it under your PS3 account. So, if there is some fan out there who plays the game regularly and would like this, just send me a PM. First come, first serve.

Edit: Claimed by Decker. :D

Something weird happened today. My trophy level reset to 1 and when I try to sync, I get an error. It's not on right now, so I don't know the code. All my trophies still show on my trophy list, so I haven't lost them, I think.

Anyone else run into this problem?

I've had a weird trophy problem before, not exactly like your scenario, but similar. I don't remember the exact details, but I remember losing a bunch or all of my trophies. They eventually came back though (which I think was after I had deleted/reinstalled some game data and then did a resync). Hope it works out!

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

I'm sure it will be fine. I'm just giving it a rest before I try to sync again.

Trophies are back. I wish I'd written down the error code I was getting.

I've been using an Android app the last few days that you might find interesting:

PS3 Friends lets you know who's online without having to turn on your PS3 or slog through the ridiculous PSN website.

Thanks for the heads, that's awesome!

I'm always afraid of using a third party application that you have to input your login name and password.

So i had this thing connected to facebook and after I got the update it spammed fb with literally every trophy I've gotten on psn to date. Took me an hour of deleting posts to clean it up.
