Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

I don't know if this is something sony could have avoided. I bet that if ms pissed off the hackers like sony seems to have then they would be in the same boat now. However, the way sony is handling this is pretty poor. They should have at least come out and said right when it happened that it was an external intrusion and told people there was a possibility of stolen data even if they weren't sure yet so that people could at least decide for themselves what steps to take instead of waiting a week to let them know this.

If I lose my PSN name and trophies I'm going to be really pissed. I will probably take Sony up on the offer with the 3 credit firms to keep an eye on my account and my credit card has thetf protection where they call me about any suspicious purchase.

What offer? Aren't they just saying you can get your credit report for free from the three agencies once a year, which is true with or without Sony screwing up like this.

I don't remember which credit card I used (though I can at least check statements later), and I don't remember which password I used...

And good thing they killed the PSP Go (though not officially in America) since anyone that bought it in the last week basically bought a paperweight.

why does that guy have to make the video without a shirt on? What was mgh83 looking for when he found that video? Why did he have to link it here?

By the way, note that they said passwords were leaked. That means they were storing our passwords UNENCRYPTED. What the FUCK, Sony?

yeah, it kind of would. it's probably pretty clear it's not him, but this seems like a vindictive way to get at a company. don't fight them head on. fight them in the court of public opinion.

Now I'm really worried I had a cc on file at one point, but removed it 6 months ago. I really hope it was removed and not still stored on Sony's end somewhere.

If people's card info was stolen and being fraudulently used, we'd be hearing about it by now.

Has that been stated anywhere as a possiblity or is that just something you're worried about? The release just says to change your password when you can log back in.

What a fucking mess. I'll be upset if I lose all the trophies, but Ill be even more upset if I lose my $80 I had on my PSN account...

I'm not mad as I actually lost my credit card I had on file with PSN and never bothered to change it alongside the fact that I've moved since then ...

... however, I'm mad that Sony pretty much had all of our information taken and didn't have the balls to tell any of us until a week later (and by a fucking blog post at that).

No wonder I only use my PS3 player as a glorified Blu-ray player.

Well, if they have our log on names, email addresses and passwords and they're hackers then it is conceivable that they could have logged in to many accounts somehow and changed the linked email and password for said account thus locking you out forever.

Sony really screwed up in dealing with this "outage". If they would have been more upfront about the situation, people wouldn't be as upset with them. Also what kind of shitty security measures did Sony have on their network?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

According to the Kotaku article Sony didn't know that personal information was compromised until yesterday. I'm on my phone and can't link the article. Sorry!

Fucking Sony, I really didnt care about this outage as I dont have a CC on file, nor play online, but given that I cant play some games without a stinking update, or I may lose my trophies, or my dlc & credit, Im furious.

If I was MS I would totally but the xbox on sale for $100 off each version and do some kind of media blitz and totally over hype Live... shit Id get 4gb 360 for $100

Not going to cancel my Credit Card just yet.

Not sure how much good it'll do, but I went ahead and changed all the passwords on my Email, Paypal, Amazon, AT&T Phone Account, and various message boards where I use the same PSN tag name.

You guys need to calm down, apparently they didn't know this until yesterday.

http://kotaku.com/#!5796027/sony-did...h-until-monday

While Sony discovered that hackers had broken into their Playstation Network on April 19, it wasn't until nearly a week later that the company understood the full scope of the breach, a Sony official tells Kotaku.

The company learned that customer data was stolen on Monday, only after an outside security firm conducted days of forensic analysis, Sony said.

Took them 5 or 6 days to find that out. Thats ridiculous.

I might call up my bank to get a new card for the one I have used for PSN

I'm curious what game you tried to play that didn't work, because the updates are working just fine.
