:-) Thanks for the invite. I'm currently in limbo in my move from NYC to LA as I stay with my family in Atlanta for a little bit. It's hard finding time when it's not my tv, my living room, etc. especially with more family-friendly options laying around (have you gotten Modnation yet?) But I think about it every week and try to make it work. It will one of these weeks! (and then in august when I'm in LA, it'll be my tv, my living room, my warhawk time!)

A cloud save service would be great for those fucking games that have copy protected saves.

The idea of charging us for Hulu's service when it is already free on the computer and has ads built in to the videos bothers me. We would have to pay a fee to watch the same videos that we can on our pcs as well as sit through the shitty ads? I don't think so! Especially considering that we had Hulu access not long ago on the PS3 and then it magically disappeared.

glassdragon may be referring to the fact that Hulu itself (not just on the PS3) is considering a move to a subscription model. Like a Hulu Premium kind of thing. But maybe he meant for the PS3 itself. If so, I wouldn't pay for that. I get Hulu through my PlayOn.

Does the "automatic updates" feature mean it will download a patch when you're not there? I wouldn't want to leave the PS3 on all the time, so I hope they'd have a way to turn the system on and off remotely. Actually, it might get annoying if it insists on downloading patches for games you no longer play (or at least aren't going to play again for a while), if the servers aren't any faster.

One more thing: WTF do they mean with the Sophie's Choice metaphor?

It will give you the option to set a time to wake up your PS3 and download and install updates automatically. The same with demos and betas. With firmware updates, it will download them but you will have to manually install it the next time you turn on your system.

Sorry, didn't see this had already been answered.

No, I was just jumping off the $10 price point for Hulu and was saying that if you bundled Hulu with everything else Plus is supposed to do, it should cost around $5 per month, give or take. Which is about what it does. I was under the impression that initially, Plus was going to include Hulu functionality but then they decided to charge separately for Hulu. But I haven't been following the Plus discussion too closely.

I was just speaking to the ps3 version myself.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...ice-nears.html

It says the rumor is called Hulu Plus and cost 9.95 a month, and may encompass all of it, either way, it's way too much for what they offer. As I said I can get all that plus a shit ton more with netflix for a buck cheaper. They are on drugs if they think more than a small handful of people will pay that.

And I'm sure it's in their power to either block it from playon or just sue them and make them get rid of it. Don't expect playon to work forever. Not only that but playon hulu is shitty at best with frequent corrupt streams and such. I gave up on playon long ago, and I have 2 licenses

It was a reference to Sony removing the option to load another OS onto your PS3.

Hulu Plus is a terrible idea. You're right glassdragon about Netflix being the better value. And even though Playon's hulu isn't always the best it's a good backup for when I forget to Tivo something. And it only cost me $10 up front on sale, rather than $10 a month. It's also a good bandaid until I get all the hiccups out of my media server when I won't need any of that stuff.

But as a question, when was the last time you used it? I remember months and months ago I couldn't get anything Hulu related to work through PlayOn. Sent them a service ticket was told it was my fault and no refunds. Terrible customer service. But for the past few months, everything on Hulu has been running really smoothly and cleanly. It's been really nice. (Except I still can't rewind more than a few seconds without freezing the whole stream, but I've never been able to do that so I barely try anymore.)

I do have Modnation...just trying to get through Galaxy 2, AC2 and Bioshock 2 before I dive in...plus my son's out of town for the summer, and it seems like something we could play together when he gets back.

Still find time for Warhawk every Tuesday though! :)

Just for fun I tried it the other day and when I ran the video a window came up that i could fullscreen like it was using a browser interface, and it didn't load, so I gave up

mind you, I am not slamming playon, they are doing a pretty good job with it even though Hulu keeps blocking them, but it gets kind of ridiculous when I want to watch something I have to wonder if it's going to work this time. I shouldn't have to make a backup plan in case my main plan doesn't work. No problem with that like Netflix so I just stick with that.

I don't think I've ever had a problem using PlayOn.

Any idea if Sony will sell PSN+ cards? Hopefully you could get it at Best Buy or something with a Gift Certificate or on sale or something like that.

Yes they will. I read that on a Q&A blog. Don't think they'll be available right away though.

Wow. All that DLC is free for life, sub or no. That's a bunch of DLC right there!

Seriously, there's a lot of DLC for games I already own. If I can get that stuff for free for life, that is certainly worth the $4.16 it'll cost per month.

Still, it's confusing as hell. And we're on the internet following closely. How would the average PS3 owner ever appreciate or even understand this thing?

My problem is that I already bought most of what I wanted from that list during the spring sales, even the add-ons.

BTW, I think the premium avatars are a joke. The thing about avatars is that you need enough of them to go around so that people aren't using the same ones. They should have a few dozen or so, so that you can use a premium avatar without having to settle for one that many others will use as well.

Too much DLC, not enough free games. Still, I'll likely be signing up because I'm a sucker for this sort of thing.

What I'm wondering is about the free PSone games and the PSP minis. Since you need to be an active subscriber in order to keep playing those games, does that mean you need to be online to play them on the PSP? That would be a huge problem on a portable system, obviously.

Chalk it up to Sony for releasing something and not making things clear and making things more vague by mentioning that some stuff is limited to the period of your subscription.

Reminds me of the PSP Go release when Sony hinted at some kind of UMD to Digital conversion offer. Riiiiiiiiight...

So, if you buy a game at a discounted price, it is still yours for life, correct? They aren't going to pull some crazy math or something like that.

If I had a PSP or PSP Go, this would be more enticing.
