I love me some Dr. Pepper, but I can't picture myself having a theme dedicated to it everytime I boot up my system.

I received my USB flash memory that was on sale last Thursday in Amazon. 16 GB for $25.

I did a few tests yesterday in my Elite. I copied The Saboteur to the USB drive and it took me around 11 minutes. That's for 6-7 GB.
Then I did the same, copied the game to the Elite hard drive, and it took me around 9 minutes.

Good enough for me.

I also played for a couple of hour from the USB drive and saw no difference in loading times.

Now wait because I have to backup my USB drive to my PC. ;)

I bought that same Kingston USB drive and it works great. I just love that I can take all my XBLA game with me to a friends without having to swap hard drives. Very nice new feature.

question about linking 360 to PC using Windows Media Center. I was able to do it and all. It downloaded all my pics and video folders, but when I opened up a Video folder from my 360 that I know had videos in it, it showed the folder, but said there were no videos in it to be shown.

Anyone know why this is? thanks.

They need to be in AVI or WMV format.

My second 360 died on me tonight. I was playing a game the other night and the system kept freezing. I assumed it was the rental disc until I got a warning the one time I booted it up with the E79 error screen. I tried unhooking the HDD, a newer 120gig one, tonight also tried putting on my old 20gig HDD back on. Each time I would turn the system on it would freeze faster and faster. I called XBOX support and as soon as he asked me if I had see the three red lights and I responded no....the fucker red ringed on me. Thankfully the last time I got the RROD they sent me a slightly newer system so I don't owe anything.

If I didn't use my XBOX every damn day I think I would be more upset than I am right now. Since my son was born almost 6 months ago I have used Netflix almost every day. Before that I played the damn thing pretty much every night. With all that said I probably would of lost it over the phone if they asked me for 100.00 to fix the issue. Really hoping I get a newer and quieter system this time around.

I guess it is time to put a few PS3 and Wii games at the top of my Gamefly queue and also try and finish Uncharted 2.

If you are running Windows 7, you can install DivxPlus and .mkv will work natively through WMC. HOWEVER, it is W7 only.

I've been using PS3 media server to stream, and it seems to work better....but I use my PS3 to stream most of my stuff. Although, some things work better on my 360. I noticed some .mp4 was out of sync on my PS3, but fine through WMC...go figure.

i have Vista. well, that sucks. not sure why it couldn't just run what is on PC since it is linked to it and gets all files right from it. no point in Media Center for me then.

Considering who is asking the question, I will respond with the shortest explanation possible: Because.

What is Playon? Where do I get it? What does it do? How do I install it? Does it work easily? Are there any tricks for it? What is PlayOn? How much does it cost? How long is the free trial? How much does the trial cost? How long is it for? What can I watch with Playon? Why can't I use it to watch HBO? How to I link it to my xbox? School me on Playon.

If you want to have some fun:

Account Suspension and bans. People go there to ask why they were banned. Some gems there.

Also check the stickys about the rules. I would hate to be a teenager using Xbox live. ;)

Tversity works pretty well also.

Also, what version of WMP are you using? I hear the newest WMP adds some codecs, etc that allow more formats than previous.

I found PlayOn to be easier to set up and a little less of a resource hog. Just my experience of course. The benefit of TVersity though is it is free.

Just got my 3rd system back from microsoft yesterday, and I actually think it's louder and running hotter than my previous two. It's gotta be cheaper for Microsoft to put the newer/cooler chips in these refurbs than repairing and shipping them multiple times when they eventually die. Although I guess they've crunched the numbers more than I have. Very frustrating.

I use three programs for streaming. PlayOn, the best if you want Hulu in your console. Windows media sharing, the easiest/best way to share your media in your windows PC. It just works with the Xbox 360. Those two in a Windows 7 PC. And finally in a Ubuntu box I have PMS, the best solution for all your downloaded media, it converts on the fly any kind of format and it works perfect with both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

DJ_Longfellow 04-20-10 12:52 PM

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

I still enjoy PS3 Media Server (PMS) for streaming as it does convert on the fly. Now, I'm still having issues streaming some files to my wireless bedroom 360 though. It will stutter and skip at times. Now, my wireless router is on the main floor, and the bedroom one is only 1 floor up. I only have a Wireless G router, so I was going to upgrade to a "N" router (as I have a "N" adapter), but I don't want to waste money if it won't help. I know I mentioned this already....but my 2 cents again.

With Windows 7, WMC seems to be working pretty good (in general). I have yet to test on the bedroom 360 though. also, basica Windows Sharing works fine for most stuff also. I used PlayOn as a demo a while back, and it worked pretty good. Although, I did not want to pay for the software so I let the trial expire. I feel that Hulu will be incorporated eventually, and I don't really use it right now anyways.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

There are all kinds of 3rd party plugins for PlayOn as well that let you stream all kinds of content from various sites. They range from individual TV station web sites to adult content. Some are a little buggy but some work swimmingly.

Reminder : I'm swimming in Dr Pepper Premium Theme codes. I have no idea what the folks at Dr Pepper expect me to do with six more themes, but I'm more than happy to give them away. If anyone secretly always wanted to see what their online friends would look like when standing next to giant Limited Edition cans of assorted Dr Pepper beverages, just fire me a PM or post below.

As I've said earlier in this thread my 4th 360 from them is the earlier model Zephyr unit. Hello? MS? Isn't this the most problematic unit in the 360's run? Why would you send me this POS? As it is it makes funny noises when I load discs.

I'll be on my 5th xbox within 2 or 3 years. I guarantee...

yes. as long as the disc can be recognized for the security check, you're fine. however, if the disc is scratched to the point that it is unrecognizable, then that would be an issue.

I would say yes. Unless it reports an error of some sort, the image should be fine. It's like a cd of music....even if there are a few scratches, it should rip fine to your portable device. Only the truly unsavory discs are going to have problems with installing to the 360.

However, if there does end up a defect, I'd be more worried that the hard drive might be corrupt :(

Funny you should say that. I actually got a "disc unreadable" error during a game of Red Faction the other night even though I had been playing from the hard drive for an hour or so. Not sure if it was a periodic DVD check that failed or a hiccup from the hard drive.

But, that's the only time I've ever experienced that before. My discs are all pristine condition anyway ;)

So I had an extra 360 I was going to trade in at Gamestop to get the $50 bonus...go to format the HD, and immediately after doing so I get the 3 red rings. Brother was going to trade his in as well...and the exact same thing happened to him, 3 red rings right after formatting (not sure that the format actually happened, since it took like 5 seconds).

This a known issue?

Yeah I bought Terminator:Salvation for $9 at Blockbuster's B1G1 USED sale yesterday and the disk could only get to 16% installed before a got an error message saying it couldn't read it. It was a clean disc other than what i thought was a minor blemish/scratch but apparently my 360 couldn't deal with it.

That's pretty rare for me to have USED disk issues. Either way I'm going to see if I can swap it for another one.

so far so good with the game i got on eBay. i just worry that later on in the game there will be an error or something. if i played for an hour without a problem, there still could be a problem further into the game, correct?

I've never heard of that. But why are you formatting the HD? You dont't need to trade that in. Especially if it's only a 20. Try unplugging the power supply and restart without the HD attached.
