Thanks for the info. I have it pre-ordered at Amazon for $49.99 flat (and no tax) with an avatar gas mask bonus, so I guess that's better.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
My 360 got the E74 error last night, so it's on its way to hopefully be fixed/replaced. I thought I had dodged a bullet for the longest time, since I had one of the older models from late 2005, but apparently my luck didn't hold out forever.

Am I the only person who has an unplayed spare Xbox sitting around in case my Elite dies?
Picked up an Arcade during one of the "gift card included" deals this past Christmas and it's been turned on twice I think. |

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I don't have a spare, I have 2 active consoles with a Memory Unit to move my profile and relevant save games back & forth. If one dies, I'm covered during the repair process.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I have a spare Elite system, but I use the Arcade unit I got as a replacement when my Elite took a dump. And since then I've upgraded my TV to a very nice 50"plasma, and I've kept the Arcade unit (with a new 120gb hdd) hooked up because it has hdmi and the Elite unit does not.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I thought all Elite systems had HDMI? In fact, wasn't that where it was first introduced?
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
HDMI wasn't introduced until a few months after the Elite launch.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Ah, ok. For some reason I remember that as a big selling point of the Elite when it first launched.
What I remember is that the Elite always had the HDMI port and then a few months later, they quietly added it to the "Pro" system. That's when I got mine, at least. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Yeah, the first group of Elite adopters got shafted.
I just got my HDMI unit late last year ($200 w/ $100 GC Arcade unit). |

On April 15, 2010, we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox games playable on Xbox v1 and Xbox 360. In our continuing efforts to evolve the service, we need to make changes to the LIVE service that are not compatible with original Xbox v1 games.
What does this change mean for you? • It does not affect your ability to play original Xbox v1 games offline, but does remove LIVE connectivity and support for online multiplayer, leader boards, and other online features of these games. • We realize that you are an avid Halo 2 fan. Unfortunately, with this change, you will not be able to play Halo 2 on Xbox LIVE going forward. • Although it is difficult to say goodbye to Halo 2, the Halo franchise continues as the benchmark for multiplayer gaming in this generation with Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and soon Halo: Reach. On the Xbox 360, you will continue to have access to the LIVE service where you can enjoy hundreds of other LIVE-enabled games. When will this change take effect? • April 15, 2010. What is Xbox LIVE doing for me? • To thank you for being a loyal Xbox LIVE customer, we are giving you a free, three-month LIVE Gold membership and 400 Microsoft Points for you to use as you choose on Xbox LIVE. • In addition, because you've been so loyal to Halo, we are inviting you to participate in the exclusive Halo: Reach Beta. How do I get these offers? • You will receive a token for 400 MS points. Check your Xbox LIVE account messages on the console. These points can be used for 365 days after you activate your token. • We are extending your Gold membership by three months automatically. The extension will be directly reflected in your LIVE account. • Finally, as the beta gets closer, you will receive an e-mail containing the code granting you access to the exclusive Halo: Reach Beta. Thank you for being a loyal Xbox LIVE member. Please visit xbox.com/support if you have any questions or for more information. The Xbox LIVE Team |

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Gotta keep a spare 360 around just in case. Maybe this was all just a brilliant strategy by M$ to get everyone to buy two 360s.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
so who exactly gets this 3-month Gold offer, points and when? i just signed up for Gold and don't see any changes...
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
People that have stuck with playing Halo 2 online in the past few months (year?) are the ones getting the email/offer.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Step 1 : Have a Gold account to play games online. If you don't have that, the change isn't going to affect you at all

I think he's talking about the gaming streak.

Ahh... for a streak that long, he sure doesn't have much gamerscore.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Watching Netflix probably counts.

Is streaming videos and movies through your Xbox 360 on 437 consecutive days in some way more socially acceptable than playing video games every day for that long?
Actually playing that many days consecutively is probably on the wish list of many people here :D |

True, as long as the system is on it counts. I could see that streak by using it for music streaming as well.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
It really comes down to 360voice.com's badges more than anything else. People make sure they get activity even if they don't play or stream or use the 360 that day. They have a whole application that helps you remember to keep your streak active.
You can tell Lunchbox cares about the badges because of the "360voice" shout-out in his motto. That's another badge. * This post is not meant as a criticism, but rather just relaying information. I like the completion and genre badges myself. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
With a streak that long, I wonder how many RRODs he had or if that was all on one console.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I think that site has a function for you to say you're without console (RROD, vacation, whatever). You don't get those days added to your streak, but your streak isn't broken.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Dammit. My box just RRODed. It's only 2 years old. Was one of those Falcon versions that was going to fix the RROD problem. Should still be covered by warranty.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
My xbox just red ringed too. Unfortunately the website says I'm not under warranty. That isn't true, because I bought this console in August 2007, so I should be good, but maybe my registration didn't go through or something. Or maybe they put through that extension after I bought mine? I'm not sure. I'll call the number tomorrow to dispute it.

A few days ago, mine red ringed and on the site it said mine was out of warranty as of Jan of 2009. This was a refurb they sent me back in 2007. I called and they looked it up again and said they're going to fix it for free. Hopefully I'll be shipping it out today. I guess It's a good thing I saved the original Refurb box it was shipped in. -ohbfrank- |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Does anyone know how to remove a custom station on last.fm for the 360? I entered a person and it keeps telling me there aren't enough songs to play the station but it won't let me remove it now.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
If you get a refurb unit does it still carry a 3 year warranty for RROD? I'd be surprised if you get anything longer than a year even for RROD.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
can you remove it from the website?
