re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
^ I actually just picked up a 2nd xbox remote on clearance at Target for $14. The 15-minute shutdown of the controllers each 22-minute episode is quite annoying.

Shhh... can't you see I'm trying to justify Kinect?

Ugh just got my first red light and I'm sending it off to Microsoft. Still, it made it 3.5 years.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Is there anyway to disable Kinect connectivity with Netflix? It's a bit annoying having that floating hand on top of my movie.

After more than 2 weeks of apparently not having any in stock -- yes, that's correct, Microsoft was out of power cables for 2+ weeks with no way of obtaining more -- they shipped a replacement. It was finally delivered this Monday, yay! Except it was delivered to my old address, despite my double and triple efforts to notify them to NOT send it there, so someone else has it now. The case has been in a state of "escalated" for the past 2 days, and I'm awaiting an urgent phone call from a Senior Cords and Bricks Specialist (I made that title up).
Long story short, I'm wondering if I'm justified in asking them for some kind of compensation for my month's worth of useless Gold membership, or at least the $10 it originally cost to ship the thing back to them. I'm now downloading the 10 or so items that were backed up in my download queue from sales, etc. I'd kind of gotten used to not having the temptation to play games (my Wii and PS3 certainly aren't a problem there), and had found other, more fulfilling things to do with my free time. Glad that's over! |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
There are a lost of posts here, so please forgive me not searching thoroughly. I saw a thread but it didn't seem to answer what I was looking for.
Is there some sort of website that has a review section specifically for Xbox Live Arcade games? I'm trying to slog through all the games they have, looking for what seems good and what seems bad, but they seem to be plagued by titles that are completely meaningless and cover art that looks like stuff third graders would be embarrassed to do. Any clues? -jason |

I've been reviewing a lot of the more recent XBLA games. You can check those out through the link in my signature. Hopefully that helps.

According to OXM (via SlickDeals) Hulu+ is coming to Xbox this Friday with a free <s>month</s> week for every gold member! PRETTY SWEET!

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Sweet for the free month, too bad it's pretty worthless.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
It's a week according to the article, so I updated my text. I got "month" from those awesome proof-readers at SD.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
$8 would be great if all the shows that are in the "web" version were available.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Looking forward to trying it out. When Sony added Hulu+ even the PS+ members were expected to pay money up front to use it.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I was debating subscribing but out of the few shows I was interested in only one was available. Maybe I can squeeze that in a week.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
http://www.hulu.com/plus/xbox - Sign up for a free month this way. I wonder if this in addition to the free week they previously talked about being sponsored by beef jerky. I'll probably wait to sign up until next week in hopes to stack them to 5 weeks. If I miss the boat and can't do that, I probably won't give a shit anyway

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I just tried Hulu Plus in my Xbox. Pretty smooth, same as Netflix. Streamed a couple of short videos without issue.
For the free week you don't need to enter your credit card. If you want to apply for the free month you need an Xbox Live Gold account and a credit card, so if you want to keep the sub they can charge you. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
BTW, you can also use your Hulu Plus account in any other device. I tried in my iPad and it worked.
So it's really a full account with all the privileges. For one week at least. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Signed up for a month, but I doubt I'll use it. Never watched a show off Hulu before, and a bunch of the shows I like (Fringe, Archer...) are web only so it's kind of useless.

You have shows on Hulu free that aren't on Hulu+. You have content on one or both that only works on certain devices. Then you have major networks/shows missing, etc. It's baffling. It just seems like it would be a no brainer service to offer television shows on demand. For me, I got hooked on Community (s.1) over Christmas. I'd love to drop $8 and be able to catch up on the current season. Oh well, I'll try and squeeze in the Office(current season) this month. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Yup. I would pay $8/month for that. As it is, I download what I want day-of. They're losing out and I'm slightly inconvenienced.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Why watch TV at all? To many good video games to play.

I do not. Some I get a few days early (the one thing Canada is good for) and others I have ready to watch within 8 minutes of the show airing. It's all automated by RSS feeds and auto-executing unraring scripts upon completion.

It's funny that so many TV show torrents have the CityTV logo in the corner. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I've been a Hulu Plus subscriber since Day 1.
I'm not sure if you all understand how it works and what type of content falls into the "Hulu Plus" category. It's basically most shows that air on NBC, ABC and FOX and are produced by those networks. Shows like Fringe (Warner Bros), Community (Sony) are web only because those studios don't have any stake in Hulu. Hulu is co-owned by FOX, NBC and ABC. Cable shows on FX, USA have anywhere from a 8 day to 1 month delay. I also think there are rights issues with re-transmitting content on your TV through Hulu Plus because it's re-transmitted in 16X9, 720P HD. The service is good IMO if you need to catch up on stuff and lack the time to watch it in a timely manner and don't want those shows eating up valuable DVR space. I know HD records eat up alot of DVR space. |

I still don't understand why producers don't go along w/ distribution like this. The alternative for most is not more nelson families watching your shows or more iTunes downloads, it is more torrents. |

There are a few rare exceptions like The Simpsons (which is produced by FOX) and doesn't get Hulu Plus treatment. Here is a list of all the content that is on Hulu Plus http://www.hulu.com/plus/content And if you scroll through it, you will notice it's all NBC, ABC and FOX shows that are produced by their studios. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Yeah, but look at the season/episode counts. Most of what I wanted to watch from those networks and produced by those Networks was only partially there. It wasn't worth it at all for me.

There's a few shows that post it's entire run like The Office, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Parks & Recreation. |

These shows are not on Hulu+ and/or relegated to 1-2 episodes on Hulu Free(i.e. won't work with the xbox): Fringe C.S.I. Hawaii Five-0 Chuck Big Bang Theory Smallville Community Mr. Sunshine Human Target Happy Endings How I Met Your Mother Burn Notice White Collar The Walking Dead Men of a Certain Age Sanctuary Mythbusters Sports Show with Norm Macdonald Phineas & Ferb Fish Hooks Only 4 showed up on Hulu+, albeit with limitations: Modern Family - 5 current episodes (all s2 episodes on Hulu Free) Friday Night Lights - 4 current episodes (all of s.4, and episodes 11-15 of s.1 ) *should be noted it's already on DVD and kinda pointless for this one. Glee - complete current season The Office - complete current season So out of 24 Primetime(more or less) shows there are a whopping two shows that have all the current episodes available on H+. What a joke. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Entire current season is a pretty big difference than "most shows" don't you think?
I got value out of it for about a month, mostly from Nova, Peep Show, and some other British stuff. But they have a long ways to go I think. |

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I get that, but for a service advertising all the great TV for $8 a month, it's smoke and mirrors. Oh, it's produced by x, or it's on y network. You want it on your xbox? Oh you can't do that, Why? You just can't, because we said so. You want our free content on your media device and tv? uh-uh, think again. Why would you want to watch tv shows on your tv? Get real, loser.
Like I said above, the idea of a single hub to collect/offer streaming/on demand television is a great idea... a great idea that has yet to be realized in a practical and workable fashion. |

I just mean you didn't say most currently airing shows and their current season only. Most shows aired by those networks/prod companies implies a lot more content.
