Yes, there could be a problem. It's best to try and get your money back now before something goes bad.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I considered making a separate thread about this, but I'm not an attention whore so I decided to just post a note about it here for posterity.
So, today marks one year since I first bought an Xbox 360 and became a member of Xbox Live. Before then I had never owned or even played an Xbox of any kind. The only reason I decided to get one in the first place was because I had fallen in love (ok, obsession) with Fallout 3 on my PS3, and at the time the DLC was not available for that system and might never be, as far as anyone knew. I quickly became an Xbox addict and after playing 2 or 3 games, I decided to set a goal for myself: 50,000 achievement points in one year. This was not out of any desire to prove to anyone that my e-package is bigger than theirs; it was purely a personal thing for fun and the "can I do it?" challenge. Did I play some kiddie games in addition to "real" games to help reach my goal? Sure, but in the process I had some really fun experiences and discovered some fantastic games. Would I have given Viva Pinata a chance otherwise? Maybe not, and it's one of the most enjoyable and engrossing gaming experiences I've ever had. And anyone who wants to criticize the family games for being too easy can go take a shot at 100% completion on Monsters vs. Aliens -- another excellent, well-made game, by the way -- and then get back to me. I had a thing against FPS games in the past as well, and I might not have given many of those a chance before this idea came up. There's no way I would have even considered playing shooters like Call of Duty 4 or Modern Warfare 2 (or probably even something like Bioshock) before this, and I'm certainly glad I did now for the obvious reasons. Today, one year later, I stand at a gamerscore of 56,860. It's taken a lot of time and effort to get there, but I've had a blast in the process and I find myself wishing I had kept some type of blog or journal detailing the experience. Who knows, it could have led to some type of Julie & Julia book/movie deal, perhaps with Meryl Streep landing her next Oscar nomination for a spot-on portrayal of Major Nelson. At any rate, I realize that this accomplishment means nothing to anyone other than myself, nor did I ever want it to. And before I get a lecture, I do know that achievements ideally shouldn't be the most important goal in game-playing, but for me they add a great deal of extra replay value and a whole new layer of challenges and accomplishments. It was a fun run, and I look forward to more of the same in the future -- but maybe not as rushed. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
 It took me 5 years to get 56k.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
That took me 2.5 years. In my first year, I barely broke 10k.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Yeah, I've had a 360 since launch and I'm at just above 50K. Congrats?
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Wow, I've had my 360 since launch as well and sitting at around 25k I think. But then again I don't really look at the achievements as I'm going through a game. If I get them great, if I don't, no biggie.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Nice work MoviePage. I know I only do the achievements for myself. Weird sense of satisfaction once I hear that achievement sound pop up. I know there are some good "family oriented" games such as Viva Pinata. But how about so-so ones? I'm looking at Fusion Frenzy 2 and Cars which were okay, but it became to the point where I would rather play games for enjoyment rather than torture myself for a few hours to get easy achievement points. The achievements actually push me to play a game I like for a longer time like the Riddler challenges in Batman, or Modern Warfare on veteran.

So on the same topic, what achievements are everyone most proud of?

As for family games, the previously-mentioned Monsters vs. Aliens is one of the best I've played, along with the 2 Viva Pinata games. Madagascar 2 was so-so but better than average (lots of fun minigames), and any of the Lego games are pretty good (currently working on and loving Lego Rock Band). Kung Fu Panda is a really good game as well. If you have questions about any specific ones that I've played, just ask and I'll be glad to share my opinion. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I figured you'd toss out Dead Rising's 7 Day Survivor as well as the RB2 Bladder of Steel achievement.
As for me it comes down to all the single player Burnout Revenge achievements. Specifically: http://www.trueachievements.com/imag...05400/5484.jpg - Perfect Burnout Revenge! (get all 5 star in all 169 events) the one I want most though is: http://www.trueachievements.com/imag...6000/26051.jpg - Zuma: Awarded for earning 2,000,000 scores. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I forgot about Bladder of Steel! To be fair, I only did that on Medium one loooong afternoon why the wife and kids were at her grandma's birthday party
Fucking Visions  |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Visions is why I haven't bothered with that one. I don't think I could make it 6 hours on medium. I'd fall asleep with the guitar in my hand.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
About 2.5 years here, and I only have 3k in achievements, if that.
Still, I really liked the paint the fence achievement in Geometry Wars 2, the one where you had to touch all corners of the wall in pacifism mode. That's one of the few achievements I actively went after. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Good one. That one was so aggravating and fun at the same time. I wish you could re-enable that mode after getting the achievement. It would be fun just to try again.

My personal accomplishments:
- Beating Rock Band 1 on Expert guitar for me. Green Grass and High Tides was so difficult. - Mile High Club in COD4 - Win 10 Xbox Live ranked matches in MK3 (seriously I suck at fighting games) - Beating Mega Man 9 |

I'm proud of the ones i earned in DoA4 since those were some hard fought battles to earn the rankings. I am also proud i don't have the 0 point "achievements" the game stings you with for dropping to a D or an F rating.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
PlayOn is going subscription only May 20th. Get your license now if you want the current version for life.
Use the code LIFETIMEto pick it up for $19.99 though the end of April. Here is the announcement: http://www.playon.tv/blog/playon-premium-coming |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Kind of sucks though that all new development will only be accessible to those who pay the subscription (basically cutting off improvements from us early adopters).

Sounds like a no. However, to be honest, the folks doing plug-ins have been adding a ton of streams so maybe it won't be a big deal. Also, i may even upgrade (at least for a year). Basically if you are a bran new subscriber it costs 40$ the first year and 20$ each year after that. If you are a current owner of PlayOn "Basic" you only pay 5$ the first year and then 20$ each subsequent year. I may pay that 5 and see how much it improves to see if it even merits the expense. I am suspicious though because when you upgrade to Premium they give you a new registration code and say that if you ever want to go back to basic you need to save that old original code somewhere. Seems a weird way to handle it. |

Question: Is there any way to change your default profile?
I created a local profile for my gf for when we play Halo 3 together, so she has someone to sign in as, but now every time I turn on my 360, it signs in as her, and I have to switch to my profile. Pain in the ass. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Is any of that content really worth it? Netflix and Hulu are the only two services worth paying for, IMO. And Netflix is already integrated into the 360. Plus there was news today about Xbox getting a TV service. I don't think I'd commit to Playon other than the $20 basic package. I will not pay a subscription fee to them.

But you are correct, the items named as being in the pipeline aren't that impressive. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Yeah, I only use Playon to stream Hulu to my Xbox 360 and watch it in my TV or projector.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I only have about 1250 nerd points. I just got the Mad God achievement in Oblivion. I am now up to 160 hours and have pretty much only played that game since getting my 360 in December.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Is it possible to create a UK Live account with access from your US console? I know the PS3's really good at this, but am interested in trying it on my 360.
