Re: Borderlands

Good times in Knoxx last night with Chew and donuts!

So far, I'm pretty impressed. It was a bit unnerving that we couldn't spawn a second vehicle on those long roads, so we had to hoof it mostly. I'm really digging the new enemies, and especially the fact that I finally have a reason to use electrical weapons. I've been sitting on a 4x lightning SMG for as long as I can remember. The first run-in with the ninja assassins was , and several of the new enemies were pretty rough, but most of our deaths were from falling off of walkways.

I don't know how big this thing gets, but it feels almost like a full-fledged sequel thus far.

We also collected the first couple levels of braiiiins before losing interest in that.

Re: Borderlands

At the vehicle spawn screen you have to hit (I assume on the PS3) L1 or R1 to switch to the second vehicle options. Won't be too long before you get access to a 4-seater anyway

Re: Borderlands

^^ I was thinking that might be what we would have to do! Spawn one of each vehicle type. I only tried the first screen option.

Crap.

Re: Borderlands

I thought the same thing...even last night, but I don't think Scooter added the other vehicle until after Moxxi's. At any rate, I'm not sure I'd want to babysit the vehicles down that highway, as we were much more formidable on foot. I'm not even sure how much faster it would be given that we'd probably lose one of the two cars on a fairly regular basis.

I'm also glad to see the game running better despite some really odd screen color changes...that may or may not have been on purpose.

Oh, Chew, I wanted to tell you that I re-spec'ed my hunter last night after we got off, and the shield penetration perk is ridiculous. If you thought I was overpowered before...

That'll certainly be a big help on what we're going through now.

I need to respec too, I haven't seen a single indication of a missile.

If we play with donuts again, I should find out if he uses a Ammo recharge class mod and I can switch to the defense one. No sense in having two ammo mods!

Re: Borderlands

He doesn't. I can't remember how I know, but I'm pretty sure. I respec'd a couple of times last night just checking stuff out (it's only like $10K, so any random gun you pick up will pay for it).

That "shoot teammates for health" perk was pretty damn slick. In theory, you could just send me out into the fight and snipe me from cover!

Re: Borderlands

Has anyone tried two soldiers both with an Experience mod equipped? I've been curious about that.

This perk rocks against the guardians.

Re: Borderlands

Yes! Yes it does. I'm cutting through those "blade" guardians like butter with a lightning SMG!

It also seems to effect the bloodwing, as he seems more effective against the flying guardians.

Re: Borderlands

That's annoying about the vehicle selection. Overall, the UI for this game is one area that could use a fair bit of improvement.

I agree about the Knoxx addon so far. I'm impressed they're trying to make each addon feel fresh rather than just settling for more of the exact same as what was in the game already.

I saw that chew was using the support gunner mod so I stuck with my heavy gunner. I'm happy to swap, though. Last night, I was trying out some support talents like the healing one, which seemed to work out well. I'll probably stay with something like that for next time.

Re: Borderlands

One of you should do the ammo regeneration mod and the other should do the shield increase/regeneration mod.

Re: Borderlands

I tried out the Knoxx DLC last night - I'm level 40 so I chose playthru 1 and it was fun but too easy. I went back and tried the DLC on playthru 2 and holy crap - bad idea. Way too hard. My name is Goldilocks.

I've decided to play the normal game on playthru 2 to see if I can level up to at least 50 and try again on the DLC (playthru 2). I don't want to waste the DLC goodness on the wimpy PT1

Re: Borderlands

We're on our second playthrough in the low to mid 50s and are at a pretty healthy difficulty level...the kind where you feel a palpable relief after half of your encounters and somebody gets revived during every major fight.

I just wish I hadn't played the zombies at lvl 50, because it honestly kind of ruined it.

So you would recommend playing Zombie Island on a lower level character then ?

Yup. On our Playthru 2, the zombies have been in the low 40's. It's too easy when you're above that (or have a good Hellfire SMG).

The Ammo Regen Mod is almost a must have providing players don't have the weapon with it built in.

Re: Borderlands

Found an assault rifle last night in Knoxx (Level 56, iirc) that has a 548-round clip. Close to 300 damage per round with a 4-round burst fire. I thought that was pretty sweet and was going to keep it for my Solider. I equipped it on my Siren to check it out. Figured it would do the standard 4-round per trigger pull. Nope, the thing emptied the entire clip in about 7 seconds of continuous fire Used more than half my total AR ammo. I imagine that's a painful 7 seconds for a relatively stationary target!

Re: Borderlands

Awesome. I'm not sure what it is about the elemental weapons, but I just can't be bothered with weapons that aren't elemental.

Hell, I wish more games had elemental weapons.
