Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Why do I keep watching these Joystiq videos for XBLA In Brief? There are only two reviews they ever give -- A: "This game is awesome! Go buy it NOW!" or B: "This game is alright. It does X, which is a little unique for this type of game. It's a little pricey for an XBLA game. You should definitely check out the demo and see if you like it". The last A review they gave was for Final Fight. This week we get two B reviews.

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Zeno Clash got a great review on 1UP, but it is definitely not for me. Hated the demo almost immediately. I still own Raystorm on PSone so that is a pass as well. I tried Super Breakout on Gameroom, but the controls are beyond broken. No point in putting games like that in GameRoom since they are nearly unplayable with a controller.

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Raystorm HD would be cool for 800 points, but a big pass at 1200.

Pitfall! FTW though! Man, playing that brought back some good memories from my 2600 days. I couldn't get into Nightstalker. I know Pinata is a big fan. Does the maze ever change? Are there levels? Or do you just grab the gun, shoot the robot, avoid/shoot the spiders and bats, kill the next robot, etc? |
Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
That's Night Stalker.
|
Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
I love Night Stalker.
Yes, there's only one maze and yes, you just shoot the gun. Wait till you get to Spoiler:

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Grabbed Pitfall. Demo'd all the other new additions but most of them got an "alright, enough of this" after about 1 minute of playtime. Nightstalker included.
Did they give us extra tokens recently? It's been a few weeks since I loaded up Game Room, but at that time I had about 25, and all of a sudden I had 50 last night when I checked. I doubt that I've had that many unique visitors, but I hadn't heard anything about bonus tokens either. Thought it might have something to do with the update, maybe as a "sorry we bungled this" from Microsoft. Then I remembered this is reality. |

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Game Room Avatar items hit the Marketplace today. I snagged the Intellivision shirt (because I'm a whore) and noticed that the back of it has a sweet-ass Night Stalker print! Too bad no one will ever see it except for my gamerpic
The Pitfall Prop is pretty cool, but they want as much for it as the game itself. I swear, XBLM pricing is just all over the place on some of this stuff. These things really should be Avatar Awards for buying the game or at least getting all the Gold Medals out of them. |
Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
I liked Pitfall, but since I have that great Activision PS2 compilation and a BC PS3, I just couldn't justify the $3 for this game. Especially considering this was my first trip into the Game Room in a month. It's a pretty lackluster product so far. I really hate the menu interface. Seems impossible to navigate through.

Another release date for you guys.
May 19 - Metal Slug XX - 1200MSP These 1200pt games are getting out of hand. I don't mind it for someone new and exciting, or for something with really large scope, but a port? I guess the alternative is putting it on disc and selling it for $20. I wouldn't buy it then either. |

Actually, I would buy a good XBLA game on disc for $20. At least then I don't have to worry about all the problems associated with DLC. Long live disc games :D
For me the big advantage of disc based game is the ability to sell or give it away if you don't like it or are finished with it. |
Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Deal of the Week: The Ballad of Gay Tony
For the next week, Xbox LIVE Gold members can purchase The Ballad of Gay Tony game add-on for Grand Theft Auto IV for 1200 points (normally 1600 points.) Not a huge deal, but maybe good for someone who previously bought Lost & The Damned instead of getting the Tales From Liberty City disc. |

Problems with download content? I have no idea what you're referring to. Perhaps you meant "DRM" instead? Even then, I don't consider it too much of a problem on the 360, but I see your point.
For me the big advantage of disc based game is the ability to sell or give it away if you don't like it or are finished with it. It was more like pitfalls with DLC. The big issue is the last thing you mention in regards to buying/selling. Also, who can forget titles getting delisted (you can always find a certain disc game regardless whether it is in still in print or not) and discs properly taken care of will last a lot longer than a typical hard drive. But again, it's a personal preference and I'm an old fuddy duddy who grew up with Atari and NES :D |

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
This is another reason why I'm so excited for the Snoopy game coming it at "only" 800 points. It looks like it should be more than that and all these other games seeming overpriced makes it look like an absolute steal and I haven't even seen it in action yet!

The 800 point game is dying a slow death.
