Anyone try this week's XBLA demos yet? I'm curious about Lucidity.

I really didn't like Lucidity. Not my kind of puzzle game at all. The main character advances forward and you have to put things in front of her to help her cross barriers, jump, climb and so on. Not something I found fun.

I did like the South Park Tower Defense game. The tower defense elements seem solid and the humor is pretty strong. Love Trey's intros to the levels with a Japanese accent. Demo is really long so you can get a good idea about the game from it.

Reminds me of a lower budget Torin's Passage. May give it a shot.

According to CAG (which, in turn, was according to Joystiq), starting tomorrow the DOTW will be the individual games from Hasbro Family Game Night on sale -- All except Sorry! for some reason. We assume they'll be 400 points each, but no official word yet. I actually like those games to play with my wife & daughter -- nothing spectacular, but easier than breaking out the board games, especially at that price. The retail game comes out soon on disc for $40, for those who would rather go that route.
I'll probably pick up Boggle and Sorry Sliders at that price, which would give me all except Battleship, which can't be played locally without inviting serious cheating. The games would be cool to play online but don't really have good online integration.

When is Serious Sam suppose to come out on XBLA? I thought it was to out this fall but haven't heard anything at all.

I was reading an old Game Informer and there was a 'quick bite' with a screenshot of a new Vandal Hearts game for XBLA and PSN, due either in "fall" or "summer" 2009. Haven't heard anything about it, but I guess turn based strategy isn't really a popular genre anymore. Looks like it's been at least delayed till winter, but hopefully not cancelled. I know there's Band of Bugs and Commanders, but neither of those did much for me, and the disk game Operation Darkness was pretty bad at least from the demo.

Where are you seeing the retail game for this Decker, I can only find a retail version for Wii and PS2 on Amazon right now?

If the individual games are on sale I'll probably pick up a few to go with Scrabble and Yahtzee that I own. So much for that schedule of deals of October though.

Indeed the Hasbro Family Game Night games are 400 points each now. This is the price they really should have been all along. Bought two of the three I was lacking.

I think I'll get many of them at this price. Is there any I should avoid?

It's a smack in the face how all the game "add-ons" are only 204KB. Just buying the key to unlock the game you already downloaded in the free package. Even the few that came out after the original release.

I don't like Sorry! -- it's got clunky controls and isn't much fun to play, but it's not on sale anyway. Connect Four isn't particularly deep even for 400 points, but it might still be worth it if you're getting a bunch more -- if nothing else it's quick, easy and semi-addicitive. As I said, unless you have a REALLY honest family, Battleship is pretty much unplayable except online and nobody is playing it online.

Scrabble is solid and has a good sized dictionary. You can kind of fudge around with two letter words and such because if it's recognized as a word, the word will change colors, even if you didn't know you just made a word. Still, it's a pretty good version.

Yatzee! is great. A lot of fun both local and online. Well worth getting.

Boggle I just bought, but I've tried the demo and it was pretty fun as a word game. Unlike most here, it's a solid single player experience as well.

Don't really have an opinion on Sorry Sliders, just bought it as a completionist.

I haven't played the XBLA version, but I highly recommend Scrabble on the iPhone. It's $5 and you can play with friends/family on Facebook. It also has a built in dictionary and even has a list of 2 letter words that are valid.

How is that different from buying any other full XBLA game after previously downloading the demo?

Because here every game is in the "free" release. This is more like paying extra to unlock Golf on the Wii Sports disc.

You'll notice even the trial games are 204KB, not just the full license.

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose

Eh, it's just an artificial distinction in my book. You still have to download the full game to play the trial and then unlock the full version after paying for it. The difference is that here the "game" is free and the actual games are considered DLC. But it's not a "slap in the face", it's just a different way of handling the "front end" of the game.

What I get more annoyed about is having to download a 1-2GB "trial" for an XBLA game. That can be irritating.

Sorry will be on sale for 400 soon, per Major Nelson.

Finally the Hasbro games are at the proper price. I picked them all up for 400 points each. Liked Sorry Sliders quite a bit. Never heard of that one before.

I tried the Lucidity demo this afternoon and agree it seems kind of like a clunky and boring game. It is beautiful, but kind of dull.

The soundtrack though is beautiful. Anyone know if Lucasarts is going to make it available to download or purchase sometime?

Hey, are any of those great Disney 8 or 16 bit games availible anywhere? XBLA, PSN, or Wii-ware? Maybe I'm remembering things through rose colored glasses, but I wouldn't mind getting down with some Quack Attack.

No and they won't be anytime soon. Like Goldeneye there were many participants in those games and coming to terms to get them released is probably out of the question.

I recall Sven(?) on the Capcom boards addressed this topic sometime this past year. They said they would love to but it's not in their hands anymore.
